IDOK DEVOTION FOR Friday, November 16, 2007
When I type I make mistakes and this program underlines them in RED and I have such a distaste for seeing red. And when I see red, I want it fixed immediately! But if I continue on typing and then when I am finished, use the spell check the ‘red’s out’ in less time than if I stop to fix each typo myself.
Is there something you are ‘seeing red about’? Give God Time to fix it. Keep on with the good work you are doing and stop worrying or being embarrassed that it is not PERFECT! The ‘spell checker’ is catching it and will fix it in the end. NOW that’s something to be thankful for!
Philippians 1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
We have prayer requests from Missionaries in Madrid – Larry and Rose Anne. She writes:
November 15, 2007–We leave in the morning for our ABWE Western European Conference.
There have been death threats against the Church where they serve and they ask that we pray:
Pray with us for God’s protection and that He would be pleased to bring forth fruit worthy of His name and for the salvation of those who heard the message.
Please pray for wisdom and grace. (As the church meets with Architects)
She also said: Don’t forget – we return from the conference on Sunday, November 25th and leave for Texas on Tuesday, November 27th. We need God’s grace, health and strength to get everything done before we leave. We calculate that we only have about 13 Sundays to fit in 18 supporting churches so we may have to divide this up in two furloughs so bear with us.
Father, first we thank You for the privilege of praying for Larry and Rose Anne. We cannot imagine the danger and the joys they experience and we ask for protection for these who are being threatened with death and we pray that in all this You will be glorified and the Gospel will be preached and lived out. We pray for wisdom, grace and understanding as these meetings with the Architects come about – we pray Your Will be done. And we pray for traveling mercies and schedules that will accomplish what You desire for Jesus sake. Thank You for Larry and Rose Anne, continue to anoint them to share The Gospel and to be their Rear Guard. Thank You Father in Jesus Name.
Two Holiday tips from Journey Magazine (A Life Way Publication):
To free up oven space and avoid burning dinner rolls in an overheated oven, warm the rolls in a slow cooker or crock pot. Wrap them in foil and place in the cooker on low heat for 10 minutes.
Make new candles burn longer by placing them in the freezer for a few hours before lighting.
I have not tried either one of these; if you do, let me know how it works.
And something else from Journey by Kellye Burke
Author Brennan Manning says “we are only grateful people when we can say thank you to all the things in our lives that have brought us to our present moment because we have seen the guiding hand of a loving God in all of it.” It is easy to be grateful when our lives are going well and when God’s answers to our prayers seem readily evident.
It’s more challenging to be grateful when times are hard and everything seems to go from bad to worse. We may pray fervently, but the answers we get seem unclear and our path seems foggy. Sometimes it appears our pain and our problems are bigger than we are. Often we don’t realize until later that He was always with us, sustaining us in supernatural ways. As we seek to know and love God more each day, we learn to give thanks in everything.
Father, thank You that You have the PERFECTION You require in Jesus and You are not looking for it in me – not in my flesh and in my Spirit, You Holy Spirit, are daily working to get the ‘red out’ of me. Thank You! Help me be patient with Your Work. Thank You Lord. And this morning we pray as other mornings for the Peace of Israel and the Repentance of America. We pray for our IDOK Troops, please keep them safe today in mind and body and spirit and as they are observing Thanksgiving away from home this year, help them find much for which to give You thanks. And we pray that each of them will come to love You more and more and that You will bring each of them home safe and sound at the appointed time.
And we bring these too for comfort and peace, health and provisions for Jesus sake.
