NAPS

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 12, 2009

Where to begin? It’s ten o’clock and I’ve been sitting here ‘playing’ for at least half an hour and there is still ‘nothing’ on the page. The weekend was full of blessings. And the coming week will be too.
I got my Sunday afternoon nap. A really good one. In fact my beloved came in around 5:25 to let me know it was almost time to leave for church and by the time he made it to the hallway I was asleep again. In five or so minutes he was back and by 5:50 we were in the truck. We laughed on the way to church about what this was going to cost him – waking me up and getting me out in the cold.
I really was sorely tempted to skip Sunday evening service. I AM SO GLAD I DIDN’T. I would have missed such a sweet, sweet time of fellowship with some very special people. Often we are tempted to do the comfortable thing rather than the better thing. The world would not have fallen in on me if I had stayed in my warm, comfy bed; but as I sit here writing to you, if I had rolled over for more snoozing, I would not have the precious memories I now have. I would have missed sitting at the LORD’s Table. I would have missed hugs and laughter, beautiful music and sweet tears. And I think there’s more. I think there are things I am glad I missed. I am glad I missed the opportunity to disappoint others. I’m glad I was in my pew. I’m glad I didn’t miss seeing this one and that one. And I’m glad they didn’t miss seeing me – not that seeing me, just to see me, is any grand thing, but seeing me consistently in my usual place of worship, is important. Oh so important. And that’s true for you too. It is so important for you to be in your consistent place of worship, in your consistent place of testimony, in your consistent place of kindness, gentleness, joy, peace – you get the idea. It is so important for us to refuse to ‘nap’ when we have been called to be up, awake and loving one another. I enjoyed teasing Jerry what it would cost him for waking me up. Truth is, I am rejoicing I will never know the HIGH PRICE I would have paid for a longer nap.
Romans 13:11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Yes, LORD, it’s high time. High time for us to refuse to nap any longer. Thank You so much for this lesson. Thank You so much for this experience. Use it. Use it to help me in other times of temptation to take the easy way, the comfortable way. Use it to help our IDOKs. Use it to help them take the better way. The consistent way. Your Way. And ABBA we pray for Francis and Cathy. You know specifically what they are in need of and You know how to line them up with Your Will so You can give it to them and that is what I am asking You to do. You know the sweet one who requested us to pray for them, she needs You too, for encouragement, hope, just the will to relax and rest in You and Your Goodness toward them and all her family. And I think there could be many more feeling and needing the same, so we pray that for them too. Help them seize this word in faith and hold on to it and until they see You do what You are gonna do. And as we look over this list, I am reminded of Callie. The news they got was not what they wanted but you know what blesses me they love You anyway. Thank You for that. That is so good. Thank You that Callie and her family are in Your Hands and she is safe there, they all are. And this cancer is not for death but life – Your Glorious Life to be revealed more and more – Holy Spirit see that it be so for Callie and every other dear one listed here with cancer or other disease or illness of any kind and form. Again protect our IDOK Troops from harm in mind, body and spirit; draw them to loving you more today than yesterday. Protect and deliver Israel. Have mercy on America, bring this people to repentance and wake up Your Body to take Her Holy Place in this world to Honor You LORD Jesus. Love on our IDOKs today; don’t let one of them fail to hear You say to them in Word or music, or nature, something or someone that YOU LOVE THEM and You are with them ALWAYS. Amen and amen.

Victory – More Than Possible

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, JANUARY 9, 2009
This is good. Beth Moore wrote it. I read it on page 9 of her book Breaking Free Day By Day. “We learn to be victorious by surrendering our lives completely to the Spirit of God, not by gritting our teeth and trying harder.” Is that a breath of fresh air or what? And then I turned to page 10 and she was still talking about victory and she said this:
“It’s okay with God for you to be scared to death. He recognizes our fears and our insecurities. I feel like the Spirit of God sometimes says to me, “you know, Beth, I understand that you’re not very happy about this. I understand that you may be crying over this. Cry, shake, whatever–but do My will, child. Do My will. I have victory for you.” So even though you may be afraid about many things, don’t be afraid to allow God to do His work in you, looking into the deepest part of your heart and releasing freedom in your life, teaching you how to live in victory.” Amen and amen.

Isaiah 41:13 (Amplified Bible)13 For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, Who says to you, Fear not; I will help you!
I am not inclined today to mount another soap box but I do want to offer you a thought to ponder. When you become aware of a company whose CEOs or other Authoritative Personnel, against godly counsel, announce the company will with $$ promote an agenda that violates Scripture and undermines the security and stability of the world, please prayerfully consider if you might just divert your $$ to an alternative product on the store shelf. Prayer Request from Jodi for Cathie R and Family; Jodi’s request reads in part this way: Kathie, I found out Cathie R, is suffering from cancer. She was only supposed to have 2 months left when they diagnosed her 15 months ago. She has been doing so well. The last couple of months have been very hard for her. She is continually declining. . . . Looks like your typical cancer patient. Her husband of 29 years is have a terrible time with this. She had an MRI and PET scan yesterday and the results are coming back on Friday. Everyone is dreading finding out the results because of how much she has declined since the last one. As of the last one the cancer was in her bones, lungs, brain, and liver. Please keep this family in your prayers. They are amazing people . . . .Thank you.
We want victory, LORD. I want victory. I don’t want to grit my teeth and try harder. I want as the saying is ‘let go and let GOD’. I have discovered over the years that we humans are not even capable of letting go without Your help. We are such a bunch. How Awesome You are to love us. How amazing You are to love us. We cannot comprehend it. We do not understand how You do it but we are SO grateful! Thank You. We do not accept Your love well though sometimes and in some things. But we want to. We want victory in this, in accepting Your love for us. So I am praying for each of our IDOKs today. That we individually will be empowered to surrender to You, Holy Spirit, to receive Your love, especially with those things we don’t understand and we are not happy with like cancer stealing away our friends and family. And all the other things that are on this list. Like a daughter moving far away, even though she is going to minister in Your name and a son far away in Iraq serving for freedom’s sake. And there are other conflicts represented on this page. Lost souls still in the camp of Satan. We don’t like to think of it that way. But it is true. And we want a victorious jail break for them. We don’t know how You will accomplish this but we ask You to do it. We pray for surrender, theirs and ours. We pray You will break open the bars and barriers around and in their hearts and minds. That You will invade their thoughts behind enemy lines and fire up a desire to be free in them and with that desire for them to know that Jesus is their deliverer. Jesus alone. LORD You are deliverer to each of us and we all pray to be delivered today from gritting our teeth and trying harder. Protect our IDOK Troops, deliver Israel, save America, heal our land and our people we pray. Amen and amen. Unspoken Requests – situations so close you can only speak to Father about. Why?

IDOK DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2009

Once upon a time there was a woman who lived in a comfortable house.
She had many, many blessings but to her not much clout.
One busy day she questioned why it was that prosperity had been such a flirt.
And so, frustrated and pondering, she filled the tub with jeans and shirts.
Licking her wounds and applying pity to her hurts,
All of a sudden from her own mouth came a blurt — I just want to succeed, at something!
Hardly before her words fell on her ears, came His gentle but oh so pointed probes.
Why little girl? Do you know? Why for success you are craving so?
Holy and comforting tears began to flow as she saw what she had not seen before.
He had measured the recognition and the gain; it caused Him pain that He could not give more.
Sighing resignations the ‘little girl’ ceased to lament;
Glory, hallelujah! She received ABBA’s lavish love and now she’s content!
Psalm 84: 10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand [anywhere else]; I would rather be a doorkeeper and stand at the threshold in the house of my God than to dwell [at ease] in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows [present] grace and favor and [future] glory (honor, splendor, and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts, blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts in You [leaning and believing on You, committing all and confidently looking to You, and that without fear or misgiving]!

We have an prayer opportunity, an unusual one. I don’t think I have ever heard of such a condition. Our Sister IDOK Martha is our source on this one: Emily is a ninth grader who has had hiccups for more than 2 years. In part this is what Martha said: “The Drs. Can’t seem to find out why. Just recently she has started fainting with the hiccups getting worse. The family is at a very high stress level. The child, who I think is now in the ninth grade, has missed so much school because she has had to be in the nursing station a lot of the time. I just felt we needed to lift them up from our group. I felt the need to write you and ask our IDOKS to pray for her especially and her family as a whole. There are four people in the immediate family. Thanks for this wonderful place to have others intercede for one another.”
You are more gracious than we can receive. Thank You ABBA. LORD, what about Emily? I cannot imagine what that child has suffered and her family too. And to be two plus years into it and still have no answers from doctors, no remedy yet. But You have a remedy and we are asking You to grant recovery and give it to Emily and minister grace and strength and courage and peace to her family too. Thank You. And we pray for others, all these others listed here, spoken and unspoken, we want what You want for these and we pray You will align each of them with Your Will and bring Your Will to pass. Keep our IDOK Troops safe today, make sure they are fed from Your Word today, give them gifts of laughter and fellowship today. Comfort their families and bring others alongside to meet their needs. Protect Israel, give Your People all that You desire. Forgive America and bring us to repentance. Prepare Angela, Linda, Deborah and Mark to bow and then stand back with open hearts, minds and mouths to hear and feed us when we gather ‘In Times Like These’. You know our needs and You know the needs of every woman ordained to come to the conference. Clear the way, make the path doable, meet with us and turn us every way but loose. Gift us with worship and then receive the worship we give. Draw and bring up women from this conference that will from this conference forward live life on purpose and please, please let me be one of them. Myself and the others on the team, keep us focused on the goal of sharing Your Word with hungry women and LORD bring the hungry and the thirsty and fill them and us up to overflowing. Holy Spirit, come, invade and take over. ABBA, please come and show out big. Amen and amen. Unspoken Requests – situations so close you can only speak to Father about. Emily. Walt. Kay E. Phillip. Bone Happy

IDOK DEVOTION FOR WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7, 2009

I am back to the bones today, briefly I think. You will recall we were reading in Psalm 34 yesterday. And today I am reading in Psalm 35 which is a prayer for God to contend, stand against and deliver the Psalmist from his enemies. It’s a graphic request. Verses 1 through 8 pled with God to, let me paraphrase, draw and quarter his adversaries. And in verse 9 he sets forth his intentions to rejoice and praise the Lord for His deliverance. I was moving right along with these verses and at verse 10 I abruptly stopped for there it was again. BONES. All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like You, You Who deliver the poor and the afflicted from him who is too strong for him, yes, the poor and the needy from him who snatches away his goods? And so in light of yesterday I thought, hum the Psalmist must be anticipating and warming up to praise the Lord with all his strength, with his whole frame. I mean just pour his whole being into praising the Lord. And I think that is true but I think commentary from C.H. Spurgeons’s The Treasury of David says it better. Here, let me give you an excerpt and the web link:
http://www.searchgodsword.org/com/tod/view.cgi?book=ps&chapter=035&verse=010
Even if worn to skin and bone, yet my very skeleton shall magnify the Lord, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him. God is the champion, the true knight errant of all oppressed ones.
Verse 10. All my bones, etc. These words contain the most vivid description of the highest delight which by the whole soul and body should be experienced and openly manifested. He mentions his soul Psalms 35:9 and all his bones as about to take part in the joy, to indicate that he most heartily and with his whole body was about to rejoice, and that the joy which he would manifest would not be of an ordinary character, but of the highest order, so that each several bone should sing forth the praises of God. Herman Venema, 1697-1787.
The expression therefore is highly poetical, and indicates that the[y] joy intended would be far beyond ordinary and common delight; it would be so profound that even the most callous part of the human frame would partake of it.

We have much to learn about praising the Lord, don’t we? May we learn and experience ‘bone happy’ praise before this year is out.
1/6/09 4:14 PM report on Kay E. : Kathie, Kay is still in ICU. They had to remove her spleen. There was a lot of internal bleeding. Her mom wasn’t able to tell me much more. I will be staying at the hospital tomorrow night. Thank you again for the prayers & concern. Beverly
ABBA, it is not that I want to experience the grief and misery that an enemy can bring upon me but I’d like at least a taste of bone happy praise. And I think our IDOKs would too. So I pray especially for each IDOK who will agree and cooperate that before this year is out we will know more of and experience this kind of praise. And before this year is out LORD grant and place within each of us a desire for Your Word that surpasses every other appetite we have. Thank You ABBA. Thank You LORD Jesus for making this possible for us and Holy Spirit thank You for being the One Who administers this grace to us. Again I ask that You stay Kay’s bleeding and bring her to health and wholeness. And again we come with each one named here. There’s much trouble, hurts, illness, disease, lostness, uncertainty, loneliness, desires to be home from hostile lands, corruption, blatant sin, family contentions, lack of peace, turmoil, war, struggles with flesh, desires to be free from strongholds, some not yet ready to be free but family and friends so much want them to be free and more. Even more than all this is wrapped up in these names and we are interceding now on behalf of each for strength and conviction and resolutions to all this as well as peace and protection and wisdom for Israel and our IDOK Troops. Amen and amen.

Bones

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2009
We have all heard and most likely have said ourselves: “I have a bone to pick with you” or “I have to bone up for this test” or we may have used the phrase ‘bone of contention’. And we all know what we mean when we use these phrases. Pursuant to freedictionary.com bone of contention is described: the subject of a dispute. Bone to pick: grounds for a complaint or dispute. Bone up: to study intensely. And there are other uses but we will move along here. So what started me to thinking about bones? Glad you asked.
I sat down at my desk, looked down at my Bible opened on my desk and started to read at Psalm 34: 19.
19 Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. And I thought this is GOOD, maybe a place to begin for Tuesday’s IDOK. And then I read verse 20.
He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. And then I read 21 and 22.
21 Evil shall cause the death of the wicked; and they who hate the just and righteous shall be held guilty and shall be condemned.
22 The Lord redeems the lives of His servants, and none of those who take refuge and trust in Him shall be condemned or held guilty.
And then I thought why is verse 20 in this passage? I recognized it to be speaking of Jesus as none of His bones were broken. And I wondered does it apply in any way to us too. So my search began and I have uncovered more than I can digest in many ‘meals’ and certainly more than this one IDOK will hold.
Exodus 12 and Numbers 9 give instructions regarding the Passover Lamb and you know the Passover Lamb eaten in Egypt was a foreshadowing of our Jesus. Ex. 12:46 In one house shall it be eaten [by one company]; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house; neither shall you break a bone of it. Numbers 9:12They shall leave none of it until the morning nor break any bone of it; according to all the statutes for the Passover they shall keep it.
And so that thought was settled. But does the passage have other truth for us? So I returned The Rule of First Mention. When was bone first mentioned in Scripture and how many times is it mentioned? Genesis 2:23 Then Adam said, This [creature] is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of a man. And how many times? In the Old Testament, King James Version, 98 verses.
Then I consulted my on line Hebrew Lexicon and found the Hebrew word for BONE does not have many variations. The first usage was this: the original Hebrew word for Bone looks like this ~c[ and the transliterated word is ‘etsem and means bone, essence, substance. ~c[ comes from the primitive root word ~c[ which does not look any different to me but the transliterated word is slightly different. Atsam. And this meaning is to be vast, be numerous, be mighty, to make strong, make mighty.
I hurriedly skimmed the 98 verses and came to this conclusion: ABBA is serious about BONES and our Hebrew brothers and sisters took Him seriously regarding BONES.
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out our human frames without bones, well they would not work. I’d say they are vastly important and they are numerous. I read our bodies contain 200 different bones. And think about this of all those 200 bones with the beatings and the crucifixion not ONE of Jesus bones were broken – not even those three little bones in His inner ear. AWESOME! And we are not finished just yet. We covered vast and numerous but we must move on to mighty, to make strong, make mighty. I can see that from a human viewpoint. That is what our bones do for us. Right? And all we have to do is break one of our bones and boy do we experience a ‘power shortage’.
Verse 19: 19 Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. Yes HE does. He does it because NOT ONE OF HIS BONES WERE BROKEN. He is fully mighty, He is our Strong Man, our God-Man. And because He is, He is able in us to be mighty, to be strong, to keep us standing, to keep us up and steady. He is our framework, He is the ‘skeleton’ that holds up and holds us together. Our bones do get broken, without Him we are lame and cannot walk, without Him we have no strength, we are not mighty and we are not strong; but in Him and He in us – we have His Frame, His ‘skeleton’, His Bones and not one of them is broken. There is no weakness in Him, there is no falling, no failing. He is mighty God and He is able.
22 The Lord redeems the lives of His servants, and none of those who take refuge and trust in Him shall be condemned or held guilty.
Amen and amen! And certainly there is much more but the LORD knows ‘my frame’ and this is as far as I can go for now. Love you all.
ABBA, I am overwhelmed with this, do what You can with this for our IDOKs. Thank You for them. You are our Strong and Mighty One and I am in this moment entrusting every one of them to You and every one named in our list below. You are able, LORD. You are able . Thank You. And ABBA we love You. Thank You for loving us. Amen and amen.

As I post this it is 33°F and partly cloudy in Al Asad, IQ & the time there is 8:25 AM AST – on January 6, 2009.

I enjoyed my interview. At this time, I cannot speculate or venture an opinion as to my placement with the other applicants. When I know more, I’ll let you know. Thank you for your prayers. It was my most relaxed interview ever, I think.
