Bone Happy

IDOK DEVOTION FOR WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7, 2009

I am back to the bones today, briefly I think. You will recall we were reading in Psalm 34 yesterday. And today I am reading in Psalm 35 which is a prayer for God to contend, stand against and deliver the Psalmist from his enemies. It’s a graphic request. Verses 1 through 8 pled with God to, let me paraphrase, draw and quarter his adversaries. And in verse 9 he sets forth his intentions to rejoice and praise the Lord for His deliverance. I was moving right along with these verses and at verse 10 I abruptly stopped for there it was again. BONES. All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like You, You Who deliver the poor and the afflicted from him who is too strong for him, yes, the poor and the needy from him who snatches away his goods? And so in light of yesterday I thought, hum the Psalmist must be anticipating and warming up to praise the Lord with all his strength, with his whole frame. I mean just pour his whole being into praising the Lord. And I think that is true but I think commentary from C.H. Spurgeons’s The Treasury of David says it better. Here, let me give you an excerpt and the web link:
http://www.searchgodsword.org/com/tod/view.cgi?book=ps&chapter=035&verse=010
Even if worn to skin and bone, yet my very skeleton shall magnify the Lord, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him. God is the champion, the true knight errant of all oppressed ones.
Verse 10. All my bones, etc. These words contain the most vivid description of the highest delight which by the whole soul and body should be experienced and openly manifested. He mentions his soul Psalms 35:9 and all his bones as about to take part in the joy, to indicate that he most heartily and with his whole body was about to rejoice, and that the joy which he would manifest would not be of an ordinary character, but of the highest order, so that each several bone should sing forth the praises of God. Herman Venema, 1697-1787.
The expression therefore is highly poetical, and indicates that the[y] joy intended would be far beyond ordinary and common delight; it would be so profound that even the most callous part of the human frame would partake of it.

We have much to learn about praising the Lord, don’t we? May we learn and experience ‘bone happy’ praise before this year is out.
1/6/09 4:14 PM report on Kay E. : Kathie, Kay is still in ICU. They had to remove her spleen. There was a lot of internal bleeding. Her mom wasn’t able to tell me much more. I will be staying at the hospital tomorrow night. Thank you again for the prayers & concern. Beverly
ABBA, it is not that I want to experience the grief and misery that an enemy can bring upon me but I’d like at least a taste of bone happy praise. And I think our IDOKs would too. So I pray especially for each IDOK who will agree and cooperate that before this year is out we will know more of and experience this kind of praise. And before this year is out LORD grant and place within each of us a desire for Your Word that surpasses every other appetite we have. Thank You ABBA. Thank You LORD Jesus for making this possible for us and Holy Spirit thank You for being the One Who administers this grace to us. Again I ask that You stay Kay’s bleeding and bring her to health and wholeness. And again we come with each one named here. There’s much trouble, hurts, illness, disease, lostness, uncertainty, loneliness, desires to be home from hostile lands, corruption, blatant sin, family contentions, lack of peace, turmoil, war, struggles with flesh, desires to be free from strongholds, some not yet ready to be free but family and friends so much want them to be free and more. Even more than all this is wrapped up in these names and we are interceding now on behalf of each for strength and conviction and resolutions to all this as well as peace and protection and wisdom for Israel and our IDOK Troops. Amen and amen.

Bones

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2009
We have all heard and most likely have said ourselves: “I have a bone to pick with you” or “I have to bone up for this test” or we may have used the phrase ‘bone of contention’. And we all know what we mean when we use these phrases. Pursuant to freedictionary.com bone of contention is described: the subject of a dispute. Bone to pick: grounds for a complaint or dispute. Bone up: to study intensely. And there are other uses but we will move along here. So what started me to thinking about bones? Glad you asked.
I sat down at my desk, looked down at my Bible opened on my desk and started to read at Psalm 34: 19.
19 Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. And I thought this is GOOD, maybe a place to begin for Tuesday’s IDOK. And then I read verse 20.
He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. And then I read 21 and 22.
21 Evil shall cause the death of the wicked; and they who hate the just and righteous shall be held guilty and shall be condemned.
22 The Lord redeems the lives of His servants, and none of those who take refuge and trust in Him shall be condemned or held guilty.
And then I thought why is verse 20 in this passage? I recognized it to be speaking of Jesus as none of His bones were broken. And I wondered does it apply in any way to us too. So my search began and I have uncovered more than I can digest in many ‘meals’ and certainly more than this one IDOK will hold.
Exodus 12 and Numbers 9 give instructions regarding the Passover Lamb and you know the Passover Lamb eaten in Egypt was a foreshadowing of our Jesus. Ex. 12:46 In one house shall it be eaten [by one company]; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house; neither shall you break a bone of it. Numbers 9:12They shall leave none of it until the morning nor break any bone of it; according to all the statutes for the Passover they shall keep it.
And so that thought was settled. But does the passage have other truth for us? So I returned The Rule of First Mention. When was bone first mentioned in Scripture and how many times is it mentioned? Genesis 2:23 Then Adam said, This [creature] is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of a man. And how many times? In the Old Testament, King James Version, 98 verses.
Then I consulted my on line Hebrew Lexicon and found the Hebrew word for BONE does not have many variations. The first usage was this: the original Hebrew word for Bone looks like this ~c[ and the transliterated word is ‘etsem and means bone, essence, substance. ~c[ comes from the primitive root word ~c[ which does not look any different to me but the transliterated word is slightly different. Atsam. And this meaning is to be vast, be numerous, be mighty, to make strong, make mighty.
I hurriedly skimmed the 98 verses and came to this conclusion: ABBA is serious about BONES and our Hebrew brothers and sisters took Him seriously regarding BONES.
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out our human frames without bones, well they would not work. I’d say they are vastly important and they are numerous. I read our bodies contain 200 different bones. And think about this of all those 200 bones with the beatings and the crucifixion not ONE of Jesus bones were broken – not even those three little bones in His inner ear. AWESOME! And we are not finished just yet. We covered vast and numerous but we must move on to mighty, to make strong, make mighty. I can see that from a human viewpoint. That is what our bones do for us. Right? And all we have to do is break one of our bones and boy do we experience a ‘power shortage’.
Verse 19: 19 Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. Yes HE does. He does it because NOT ONE OF HIS BONES WERE BROKEN. He is fully mighty, He is our Strong Man, our God-Man. And because He is, He is able in us to be mighty, to be strong, to keep us standing, to keep us up and steady. He is our framework, He is the ‘skeleton’ that holds up and holds us together. Our bones do get broken, without Him we are lame and cannot walk, without Him we have no strength, we are not mighty and we are not strong; but in Him and He in us – we have His Frame, His ‘skeleton’, His Bones and not one of them is broken. There is no weakness in Him, there is no falling, no failing. He is mighty God and He is able.
22 The Lord redeems the lives of His servants, and none of those who take refuge and trust in Him shall be condemned or held guilty.
Amen and amen! And certainly there is much more but the LORD knows ‘my frame’ and this is as far as I can go for now. Love you all.
ABBA, I am overwhelmed with this, do what You can with this for our IDOKs. Thank You for them. You are our Strong and Mighty One and I am in this moment entrusting every one of them to You and every one named in our list below. You are able, LORD. You are able . Thank You. And ABBA we love You. Thank You for loving us. Amen and amen.

Parental Joy

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 5, 2009
I have personal word from one or two of you that you are planning to be at the conference, so tune me out for a paragraph here if you have decided to attend. If you have not passionately prayed about attending this conference, why is that? It’s an invitation, an opportunity, to come away from your usual routine, gather with other women who love Jesus or at least have an interest in getting to know Him; relax and take a load off your mind and heart, laugh, listen, and just maybe hear the Word from God that you have been waiting for all your life. What’s holding you back from saying YES? And yes that is a rhetorical question. You don’t need to answer to me but it just may be that ABBA wants you to answer it to Him. Some of you are several States away and coming is not feasible or practical, if that is you, please pray that Sisters here on the Gulf Coast will receive the compelling of the Holy Spirit to come to this conference, and will come hungry for a Word from Him.
Mark 6:31 And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)
I keep a radio turned to a Christian station and quietly playing in the laundry room, twenty-four seven, and when the house is quiet, I can clearly hear the lyrics. And early Sunday morning quietly seated across the hall, I heard: “I know my Redeemer Lives”. It’s a beautiful song. Sunday morning’s rendition was sung by Nicole C. Mullen. Each time I hear the song I think of my ‘Little Girl’ now 35 and when she’s on her way to work she has been known to ‘belt it out’ herself, eyes welled in tears. And as I thought about that, I rejoiced. And I said to myself what greater joy in the world could there be for a Mother than knowing her child knows ‘her’ REDEEMER LIVES? 3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. And the Amplified Bible gives it this way: 4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my [spiritual] children are living their lives in the Truth.
And if that is true for natural moms and dads and spiritual moms and dads, we can only imagine how pleased is ABBA when He sees and hears His children ‘singing’ I know my Redeemer Lives with our daily breathing in and out. And yes here’s a link to lead you in worship this morning.
I’d appreciate your prayers for me, I have an interview at 10:00 (this morning) for a 32 hour a week job – more details to come, if I get the job.
Any practice of holiness by my children or grandchildren delights me, ABBA. My joy and my delight is to see or hear them praise You and when they do my parental delight is too good for words. Why do I find it so difficult to believe You delight over me too when by Your grace I make a right decision or offer You a sacrifice of praise? When my Little One tears up with joy over You and I am so grateful and so proud of her my heart swells to near explosion, why is it that when my own tears freely flow in grateful worship of Who You are to me, that I don’t accept that You are proud of me? So I am praying for me and for any IDOK who will say AMEN that before this year is out we accept and embrace more fully visions of You delighted with us. We want to be well pleasing to You and, yes, LORD, we want to believe we are well pleasing to You. Anything less is unbelief, isn’t it Father? And we do not want to be unbelieving of anything You say or do or Are. We come now praying for our IDOK Troops, for their safety and protection, for their walk of faith with You that You will be their priority One; that You will bring each of them home safe and sound and more in love with You than when they deployed. We continue to pray for Israel, for peace, for wisdom, for protection and for victory over any person or nation who rises to harm them or take from them what You have ordained for them. For America we continue to pray for space and grace to repent. And Father as I think about America’s Leaders, especially those who have by Your Spirit been born-again, I pray they will not fail You or betray You in word or deed or vote. And for those on Capital Hill that deny You and seek to silence those of us who love You I pray You will arrest their behavior, reveal Yourself to them and I pray they will yet repent and be saved. I pray for Pastor Warren that he will minister the privilege of prayer on January 20 and that he will not betray You with political correctness. ABBA, I do not want to ever maliciously offend or hurt another, and neither do I want to be so silent that they die and go to hell never having heard me tell them there is a way of escape for them. I know it is not for me to touch every soul with Your Gospel but don’t let me fail to touch the ones You have ordained for me. And I pray this too for every willing IDOK. And Father, before we close, we remind You, not that You have forgotten, but just to ensure that we don’t forget each one listed here, please do for them what only You can do for them and move us to do what we can do for them in Jesus Name and for His sake. Move our hearts, hands and feet to minister to these as You will. Amen and amen.
