Living Simply

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 18, 2010

Praise Reports, Prayer Requests and Updates:

I’m still feeling quiet.  Still adjusting to a world without Helen.  I appreciate your prayers for Dan and the family and for me too.  Thank you.

It was said to me some days ago that ‘the simple life (that is to live simply) is hard work — it’s all about choices.’

It’s about making choices to gather what you need not necessarily what you want.  And you are doubly blessed when what you need satisfies your wants. That’s pretty profound, isn’t it?  Living simply is surrounding ourselves with quality not so much quantity.   It’s deciding what is important and making ourselves apply to that rather than running after ever bobble that is dangled in front of us  (or our children) by this materialistic world whose values are so far from the pursuit of God, family and others.  Yes, living simply is hard work — harder work than many of us are willing to sacrifice to achieve.

Matthew 6:32“For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  33“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  34“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

ABBA, You heal all our wounds.   In Your KIND WISDOM You know what is best.  I am comforted only when I believe You.  I am made wise only when I believe You.  I am made strong enough for the challenge only when I believe You.  When I believe that You love me.  When I believe that every Word You have spoken is true and faithful even as You are true and faithful.  I pray that a certain young woman will come to KNOW You in Your Truth and Faithfulness.  I am praying that a certain young woman will come to the day and for the rest of her earthly journey,  to embrace  living simply with You as her first and foremost focus to worship and obey You.  And as I pray that for her I pray it for me and for all our IDOKs and Readers who say Amen.

I pray for our IDOK Troops, asking You to keep them safe and protected today, all weekend, until we meet here again.  I pray for the peace and safety of Israel.  I pray for the oil spewing in the Gulf to be capped and cleaned.  I pray for Washington to be capped and cleaned.

And we pray for our list; for each dear name, each dear face and the many needs, knowing You will supply as we accept Your love and Your ways for us.  Thank You, ABBA, in JESUS BLESSED and HOLY Name.  Amen and amen.
