The devotional Renew Romans 8 by Timothy Keller gave me a challenge today with this: Write down a sin pattern I struggle with.
I responded: Truth! I have many! And they are all about me and my comfort!
Next he said: “How can you put it to death?”
So how long will this inkling that I have an obligation to change, work to change me?
Romans 8:12 So then, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation, but not to our flesh [our human nature, our worldliness, our sinful capacity], to live according to the [impulses of the] flesh [our nature without the Holy Spirit]— 13 for if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever. source
