IDOK DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 2008
Since I have not managed time well in the last 24 hours, I am sharing Beth (Moore) with you this morning from her Devotional Book Breaking Free Day by Day. Who knows it may be just what we need today.
And it reads: I pray that you … may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:18 (NIV)
We study so many other things, but how about exerting some of our energy into grasping the love of Christ? The word for “grasp” in this verse means to lay hold of, to seize with eagerness and suddenness. I’ve experienced a few times when I seemed to suddenly grab hold of the enormity of Christ’s love for a moment.
Can you think of a time when you were suddenly awash with the magnitude of His love for you personally? If not, ask Him to make you more aware. God’s love is demonstrative. Ask Him to widen your spiritual vision so you can behold unexpected evidences of His amazing love. (End of Quote.)
We can do that. We should do that. Each day we should pray Lord, help me know more and more that You love me and help me know that I love You and more and more help me love you more. There are times I am faithful to pray that and other times, not. I am encouraged today to be more faithful in this prayer.
There’s another prayer that I am reminded I need to pray. Last night’s Mid-Week Prayer Service was about THE TRUTH and knowing it; about knowing the Word of God. We talked about hunger for the Word and how a real hunger for The Word is rare, especially here in America. Hunger for the Word is akin to physical hunger – both are appetites. And just as I can pray (and should faithfully, but don’t) Lord, decrease my physical appetite and help me eat less and enjoy more what I do eat; I should also be praying (and I am at this writing and will with His help continue to ask) Lord, increase my hunger for Your Word, Stimulate my appetite for You, Lord. I think this is a very appropriate prayer. And according to our sister, Beth, it is equally appropriate for us to pray, Lord, help me KNOW more of Your Love for me. And as I type this I believe I hear the Holy Spirit saying You will know more of My Love for You when You Know More of My Word. Amen and amen. May it be so Lord in each of us.
We have a close request this morning, Richard – husband to Emma – and she writes in part: He has a 90% blockage in one place and a lesser one in another. Dr. Couldn’t make a stint work so he will be having by-pass surgery next week sometime. This will mean 6 wks. Off from work to fully recuperate. His job is very stressful and it will be hard for him to take off right now but very dangerous not to take care of this blockage. He did not have any symptoms or pain – just tired and a little shortness of breath. He travels and is going to be afraid of having a heart attack on a flight or in a hotel room, alone. It’s pretty necessary to have this surgery. Please put him on your prayer list that everything will go okay. I’m still a little bit in shock. It’s like a bad dream that I’d like to wake up from.
Father, how do we even begin today. Saying Thank You sounds so little when compared to the enormity of You and what You are and have done for us but we are saying it: Thank You Father. And we do pray now for ourselves, that You will increase our appetite for Your Word. Lord, make us hungry for Your Word. And Lord, open our eyes to seeing the Love You demonstrate moment by moment for us. And Lord, help us fall more and more in love with You. We need more than anything to love You more. Right now we come with Richard and the 90% blockage, the pending surgery and recovery. We have seen You before bring another through this similar scenario and we are asking that You do this for Richard too. We pray for a full recovery for Richard and for peace for Emma and the family. We entrust this family to You Father for miracles and to You be the Glory we pray.
We also pray for these others listed here today too, for Your Glory to be Manifested in their lives and situations.
And we pray again for our IDOK Troops, for their safety and protection of mind, body and spirit; for their safe returns home to family and friends; for a successful conclusion to this war; for presidential candidates to repent and be worthy of the Office and for us to KNOW which You have chosen for America. Father, please have mercy on us. Abraham prayed for a city once and You agreed to spare it. I am praying Father for this Nation, have mercy on us; pour out conviction and grace to repent upon us. And Lord for Your Church move us, move us to be available and pliable in Your Hands so we can serve and bless You and others and it is in Your Name O Lord that we pray.
