Inward and Outward

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, JUNE 2, 2008

We hope somewhere in the hours of your weekend there was some rest and worship. Jerry and I were privileged to corporately worship on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday’s sermon was finishing up Psalms 23 – Surely Goodness and Mercy are pursing, and chasing us down today.
Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
On Saturday my beloved and I gathered for a Memorial Service at Corpus Christi Church in Mobile for the Mass of The Resurrection. We so enjoyed the Presence of the Lord there and this morning I would like to share with you some sweet insights I gained. Some time ago I began to say physical death when I would speak of a brother or sister’s departure from earth. Saturday I heard it spoken in such way that I appreciate even more – she has ‘Entered Fullness of Life’. And isn’t that the truth?! Every soul who has said yes to Jesus in Salvation when here their last breath is drawn ‘enters fullness of life’!
2 Corinthians 5: 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
In ‘fullness of life’ they have not forgotten us, nor have they ceased to love us – they love us more!! And life for them has taken on ETERNITY and they are more alive than you and I. To God be the Glory!!
One more thing I noticed on Saturday that I want to share with you and I will close this morning. We Baptist (and others) when we enter the Sanctuary, can do so without a thought of Jesus. We can hurry in, find our seat, put down our stuff and scoot all over the place chatting to this one and that one and I am not saying that is bad. But I noticed at Corpus Christi when you enter the Sanctuary (and it is BEAUTIFUL I might add) you have an immediate opportunity to remember Jesus; you have an immediate opportunity to acknowledge the Water of the Word and what His Washing of you means; before you take your seat you have an opportunity to humble yourself and acknowledge you are there to worship God,The Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
No I’m not converting but I am appreciating these outward expressions of worship. And yes I know outward expressions of worship can be performed in ANY ‘House of Worship’ without an inward change of the person. But for this morning I am thinking maybe we Baptist could learn a thing or two from our Sisters and Brothers of other Christian Congregations. Maybe a little more outward demonstration would lead us to a lot more inward change. How can we demonstrate today that Jesus the Lord of Glory reigns in us? Each of us will find a way today to tell someone He lives, won’t we?
Yes, Abba, by Your Grace we will speak life and hope to someone today. And this morning we are thinking of Janie and Patti. We want good for them and we know that You do even more. So we pray for blood cells to be strong and in proper number and order and headaches to disappear and for tissue to be healthy and for spirits to be high and at peace. We pray for hearing to be restored and breathing to be deep and strong; we pray for peace for troubled hearts and minds; and we pray for blinded eyes to be opened and hearts and minds to be made ready to receive seeds of Life from Your Word; we pray for weary and bitter souls to be made sweet and at rest. We pray for hurting backs and sore muscles to be made flexible and strong. We pray for hurting families to be made whole and we pray for IDOK Troops to be kept safe; to be protected in mind and body and spirit. We pray for the Peace of Israel and the Repentance of America. We pray for the election of Your Choice for President of this Nation and we pray that we Your People of America will humble ourselves and pray and see You heal this land. Amen and amen Malpas Family.
