Prophet, Priest and King

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, JULY 29, 2008

An interesting quote to ponder: “People don’t do what is expected, they do what is inspected.”
First this morning, I opened an email that would have arrived around 9:00 PM last night had I been at the computer and it reads:
Kathie,
Can you please add Danni Ayer to the prayer list. She had scoliosis surgery last week, was doing very well for several days, then crashed yesterday and is now on the vent. Her mom writes below:
“Danni remains on the vent, and isn’t trying to breathe on her own. It is
Very scary… Physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted. I don’t think I have any
Tears left. Next issue, can’t tell if the vent is properly placed, on the x-ray her
Rods are behind her windpipe, and it is difficult to see.
She just looks so tiny in that bed.”
Ellen

Thank you for such an urgent request. I believe she is around 9 years old.
May God Bless,
Kristi B

Abba, when it is a 9 year old, words are hard to form, there is just a quiet numbness. Mamas love their babies at every age but 9 is so hard to see them suffer. I am imagining the horror this Mama is feeling. Lord, You can do anything. You can comfort this Mama and You can restore breath to Danni. Please do that. Lord Jesus, touch Danni and restore her to her family.
I need a song this morning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAJYMK0dy8M&feature=related
This is a new one for me. I cannot recall that I have ever heard this one before. Please read the words prayerfully.
I Know that My Redeemer Lives
By: Samuel Medley
I know that my Redeemer lives!
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, he lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever living head!
He lives triumphant from the grave;
He lives eternally to save;
He lives exalted, throned above;
He lives to rule his Church in love.
He lives to grant me rich supply;
He lives to guide me with his eye;
He lives to comfort me when faint;
He lives to hear my soul’s complaint.
He lives to silence all my fears;
He lives to wipe away my tears;
He lives to calm my troubled heart;
He lives all blessings to impart.
He lives to bless me with his love;
He lives to plead for me above;
He lives my hungry soul to feed;
He lives to help in time of need.
He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly friend;
He lives and loves me to the end;
He lives, and while he lives, I’ll sing;
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King!
He lives and grants me daily breath;
He lives, and I shall conquer death;
He lives my mansion to prepare;
He lives to bring me safely there.
He lives, all glory to his name!
He lives, my savior, still the same;
What joy this blest assurance gives:
I know that my Redeemer lives!
Hymn # 264 from Lutheran Worship
Author: attr. John Hatton
Tune: Duke Street 1st Published in: 1775

Prophet, Priest and King. Amen. He is!!
John 6: 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
Hebrews 4: 14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Revelation 17:13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
Revelation 19: 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
I am blessed with verse 15 of Revelation 19 in a way this morning that I think is new for me, at least from this particular verse. These verses, I think, scare some folks and they would rather not read them. The setting is a future time and I think not too distant now. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. My Blessing here this morning is My Jesus has already tread that winepress for me and He squeezed every ‘drop’ of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God out of it FOR ME. There’s none left. ABBA has no wrath left for me; my sin debt is paid – Jesus paid it all (another GREAT SONG). And as this is true for me it is true for you; for all who have placed saving faith in Jesus, PROPHET, PRIEST and KING. SOON COMING AGAIN KING!
Abba Lord and King, thank You. You have been so good to me this morning. I came to the screen not knowing what to say and then to read about Danni, I surely had no words. Thank You Lord Jesus that You LIVE! You live to comfort, You live to give life, You live to give strength, You live and because You do, we do. Thank You.
