IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2009
As recorded in the Gospel of John it happened this way:
1 So then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him.
2 And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe.
3 Then they said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they struck Him with their hands.
5 Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!”
6 Therefore, when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him!”
Pilate said to them, “You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him.”
17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,
18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.
28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”
29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.
It is finished. There is another ‘It is Finished’ in the book of James that I want to show you but first lets read the best part of this event as recorded in John.
John 20
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’”
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.
21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
I identify with Mary. I heard Him (in Spirit) call my name and it is to HIM I now cling. Now on to the other It is Finished.
James 1
14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
We are clinging to one of these ‘IT IS FINISHED’. We either embrace the Cross of Jesus and His ‘It is Finished’ and know the penalty for our sins are finished in Him and as Heaven is His Home, is our home OR we wait for death and at death ‘it is finished’ — with no more opportunities to received the ‘it is finished’ that Jesus died and rose again to give you. Yes, IT IS FINISHED! The way of Salvation is finished!
Joshua 24:
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Update on Chandler: Chandler’s surgery was rescheduled for 7 a.m. Friday. Seems the doctor wanted more data just to be positive of the location. Sounds like wisdom to me. Thank you for all the prayers for this young man and his family. My Terri came home tonight so I should start getting updates much quicker. Carolyn.
ABBA, may it in deed be a GOOD Friday for Chandler. We pray the surgery will be text book perfect and he will recover to serve You all the days of his life.
Thank You LORD Jesus for Your IT IS FINISHED. And LORD we desire to be finished with sin. We know that when we come to where You are we will be forever finished with sin, even the presence of it, and that is what we desire. And in the here and now we choose to serve You, not sin. Thank You that You continually forgive us and cleanse us. And we pray to continually forgive others as You forgive us.
Protect our IDOK Troops, keep them safe in spirit, soul and body and at the appointed time please bring them home to their families safe and sound. We pray for Israel for their Peace and protection; that their enemies will surrender or be defeated. We pray for America that You will grant grace and space to repent. And LORD as peoples of the world observe today and Sunday, we pray Holy Spirit that You will get through to thousands upon thousands and many will be saved from sin, death and hell.
Bless each listed here, protect, heal and revive we pray. Amen and amen.
