IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2009

Joyce (Meyer) gave me a really good definition of compromise on Monday: doing just a little bit less than what you know is right.

And this morning I woke up with this one; it’s more of a prayer than a quote: If You are not angry about it, help me not be angry about it.

I spent more time than you need to know being angry about some things that I am real sure that our Father was not mad about. I was wrong and it was sin. And it really messed up my day. I messed up my day. But today is a new day and His mercies are brand new this morning. And His Word says

1 John 1:9 (New King James Version)

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I accept that this morning.

And so having said that I went to my online Scripture locator with the word anger and it comes up in the NKJV about 230 times. Needless to say I cannot share even a portion of them with you this morning – might be an interesting study for us to do on our own though.

First we know from our Christian upbringing so far that God hates SIN so it is safe to say that is what makes Him angry. And when I thought about Jesus being angry I could only think of one time: in the Temple with the whip. And we can find that account in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.

To my surprise, so far, the word anger came up another time, here:

Mark 3 (New King James Version)

1 And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand.

2 So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. 3 And He said to the man who had the withered hand, “Step forward.”

4 Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent.

5 And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.

6 Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.

So what was He angry about? And did you notice that His anger brought on grieving? He looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts.

And I’ve got to pause right here for today. If when you have pondered this and you have insight to share, please do.

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

Please add my son and daughter-in-law to your prayer list. Paul recently had neck surgery and then a week later Kristi fell and sprained her foot really bad. Paul is not supposed to life anything any heavier than 10 pounds and now Kristi can’t walk with the baby. The baby weighs 23 pounds and Paul has had to help pick him up. He felt a pop in his neck last night and his back and arm are tingling. I know this is long but all you have to do is pray for Paul and Kristi’s healing and God will know what they need. Thank you, and God bless your ministry. Martha.

Betty’s fever is gone and the doctors found nothing to cause it. Thank you for your prayers.

Today’s is Vicki’s surgery.

ABBA, Thank You that today is a new day; thank You, LORD Jesus for washing my feet again, and for cleansing me and giving me LIFE Eternal; thank You for this Word this morning and I pray that You will be able to use it to help. You know I am pushing the limit here with time – help me get my priorities right so I won’t be pushing the limit. I pray now for each of our IDOKs for their spirits to be yielded to You for them to embrace this day with an attitude of gratitude, especially me, LORD. We pray again for Paul and Kristi to be healed and we bring every one listed here and ask for Your Touch upon them. We pray for our IDOK Troops to be protected in spirit, body and mind and for each of them to come home safe and sound. We pray for all the other matters on our individual hearts, asking that we surrender our wills to Yours and receive from You grace and peace in the Matchless and Holy Name of Yeshua. Amen and amen.

A Hot Fudge Sundae Weekend!

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2009

It’s been a weekend filled with good things. And tonight was the topping on this hot fudge sundae weekend. We worshipped at North Mobile Baptist with Chynna and Vaughan, Blue Tree and NewSong. To say it was good is a mild description. NewSong closed out with their rendition of ‘Arise My Love’. Nobody does it better. Here’s a YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMHyGh0RgCA&feature=related

The song asks the question: ’O Death where is your sting’? And the song answers it well. It answers it so well I rejoiced in it with tears of joy and claps of praise; but here’s the authority on it all; the question, the answer and our response. Particularly ponder verse 58 with me today.

I Corinthians 15 (New Living Translation)

51 But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!

52 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.

53 For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.

54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting?”

56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.

57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Let me give you verse 58 from The Message Bible before we go to prayer.

58 With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for Him is a waste of time or effort.

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

I have been asked to add a family in crises to our list; please as often as the Holy Spirit reminds you pray for Dana and Joey and Children.

Please add to the Prayer List Tracey Morello she is a nurse here at the facility barely 40 has breast cancer- biopsy positive—Tracey was to have 4 nodes removes and a mini mastectomy however during surgery the md’s removed 16 nodes instead of the 4—Tracey will be receiving Chemo and Radiation [35 treatments]—we both know that this will be a long and difficult regimen please and thank you

ABBA, this has been a delicious weekend; You have given so many good things, so many blessings. Thank You. Thank You for the ministries of Chynna and Vaughan, Blue Tree and NewSong and I pray for a hedge of protection for each of them that their testimonies remain faithful and their integrity for Your Name Sake not be tarnished. And I pray for all those who raised their hands tonight, acknowledging they needed You to save them. I thank You that every sincere heart who surrendered found You faithful and is now my brother or sister. I pray You will send alongside a more mature one in the faith that You can work through to disciple these. I pray that not one of them will ‘fall through the cracks’ of neglect or unconcern but that there will be someone there for every one of them. Particularly one young lady; I am delighted at her courage to not only raise her hand but get up from her seat and move to the front. Oh LORD I pray she will allow You to be so sweet to her. And now I am reminded of Dana and Joey and the Children, You know the need there and You know the solution. It’s a hopeless situation without You and I pray for doors of intervention to open for each one of them. And there are others, two other families that I am privy to, just as heart breaking, just as impossible without You, so we pray too for them, don’t let these dear souls ‘fall through the cracks’ of unconcern and neglect – rescue them, LORD, and if You can enlist us in these great works, sign us up; we’re here and by Your Grace, we’d be honored to serve. And that goes to for the others listed here, the sick, the worried, those facing surgery, those at crossroads, those awaiting a word from You as to what to say and what to do to help; all these and our IDOK Troops too, we pray for help and protection in the Mighty and Holy Name of Jesus. Amen and amen.

A Second Run Skateboard

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2009

Today is far spent and I have taken many steps today; even did some reading and Day 1 of Week 3, but nothing clicked for an IDOK Devotion – maybe because I did not sit still quiet long enough. SO may I give you a re-run? This one comes from June 18, 2007. It feels right for again today; I hope it is.

IDOK DEVOTION for Monday, June 18, 2007

I Want a Skateboard

Two things in particular my Pastor said yesterday that I want to share with you this morning. He gave me a definition for contentment and complacent that has stayed with me. He said I can know I am content when I am satisfied with what Father had given me. And he also said I can know I have become complacent when I am satisfied with what I am giving to Father. I am still pondering that and I invite you to do the same.

And the second thing I remember well my Pastor said is this: “I want my son to learn to walk before I put wheels under him.” The Pastor’s son is all boy. He’s one of those two year olds that can stretch a smile across your face and drop a giggle in your tummy as you watch his comings and goings – he is beautiful. And he wants a skateboard – the son, not the Pastor. Notwithstanding, little preacher boy is not getting a skateboard, his Father says. Now Pastor delights in giving his little one gifts. As Daddy, Pastor looks for ways to enrich his son but he knows that his son is far too young and miles and miles too inexperienced for a skateboard. So little preacher boy will have to wait for that skateboard.

About now are you thinking of another Father? I hope so. I hope you are envisioning your Heavenly Father looking at you with a broad smile as He watches your comings and goings. I hope you have a quiet assurance within that He is looking upon you with a deeper and wider and higher and greater and stronger love than Pastor can even begin to have for his little preacher boy. And I hope you know with all your mind and all your heart that if you don’t have that skateboard yet that you have prayed for over and over again, it just may be He is withholding it because He wants to ‘see you walk before He puts wheels under you’.

Psalm 84 (NIV): 10 Better is one day in your courts

Than a thousand elsewhere;

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

Than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;

The LORD bestows favor and honor;

No good thing does he withhold

From those whose walk is blameless.

12 O LORD Almighty,

Blessed is the man who trusts in you.

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

Betty’s fever was at 104 on Thursday morning, but amazingly when I talked to her she said she was fine. Betty was 6 in August. Today’s ultrasound showed nothing a CT Scan will be done tomorrow. Will let you know more as I do. Thank you for your prayers.

There is no doubt Father we are blessed when we trust in You. There is no doubt just one day in Your Presence, even without that ‘skateboard’ far exceeds thousands upon thousands of days any place else – any place other than in Your Presence is wicked and we want no part of it. Thank You. Thank You that You carefully watch over us and until we master ‘walking’ You will not endanger us by putting us on wheels. I ask You Holy Spirit to encourage and comfort Your People, our IDOKs with this Scripture and illustration today. I don’t know every need and every request of these but I know You do and I trust You to do what is perfect for each of them. I trust You to smile on them today, to watch their comings and goings and to care for them more deeply than any father or mother could for their beloved children. I trust You to heal the sick and bind up the wounded and mend and restore the brokenhearted and to feed and clothe us all according to our individual needs. Thank You for loving us. Thank You for loving these and caring for them. And thank You for our IDOK Troops. Thank You that You have watched over them and have protected them in mind and body and spirit and we ask You to continue that today and today we ask You again to bring them home to us safe and sound at the appointed time. Please revive America. Amen and amen.

Back There

IDOK DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2009

Today’s study so far was Day Five, Week Two of the Patriarchs. The focal reading was Genesis 18:16-33 and Genesis 19. You may or may not recall just from the references that these passages are when the LORD told Abraham He was going to destroy Sodom and the actual destruction of the place. Genesis 19 is — well I am sitting here reaching for words to describe it. Obviously the goings on in the city were (and still are) an abomination to God. I am fully convinced that the only reason fire has not fallen so far in this day is because of the righteous ones living here. ABBA, told Abraham He would spare the City if there were at least 10 righteous people in the City. There wasn’t! Our ratio here in America today obviously is high enough so far to stave off the brimstone. But that is not where I was going when I came to the screen.

As we looked at Lot’s wife who looked back and became a pillar of salt, Beth asked the question: Can you think of a time when “looking back” was a grievous mistake? I answered this way: Looking back without a doubt does lead to relapse; until we HATE what is back there we are doomed to go back there. Certainly I was not speaking of hating people, that is never appropriate; but hating SIN is always appropriate. And until we come to HATE the sin that is back there, we will go back there. Lot’s wife, didn’t. She did not hate the life she was living in Sodom. God gave her a way out, a way to a new life and she forfeited it. I think she did that for lack of hate and lack of love. Our Father HATES sin and if we are going to be like Him, we must hate it too. I have to ask this: is there a sin back there that you don’t hate? Maybe you are not practicing it today but you know in your heart of hearts that you are still fond of it. If so, please, please confess this to God and ask Him for His Holy Gift of Hatred for that sin back there; otherwise the day will come when you will go back there.

John 14: 15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

P.S. I completed this devotion earlier in the day, went to church, then to supper with dear friends and then home to post and email to you, and when I opened my email there was a prayer request from Bev. Bev is a dear and treasured friend; I met her in the 90s. I was a ‘seasoned’ (ha ha) paralegal and she was a novice (after having worked in the medical field for many years – she just wanted a less stressful profession); the Lord quickly cemented us as Sister-Friends in Him and she has come to my aid many times. God blessed me good with her. Those of you who have been with me for a long time know that a few years ago her granddaughter, Betty, little more than a year old became gravely ill; with prayer and great medical care she improved and thrived. And then earlier this year, another illness (not related to the first) and again with prayer and medical care she recovered. Tonight Bev told me Betty is very sick again. Her fever today was 106.8 but with swine flu the hospital is not a safe place for a child to be with a comprised immune system so Betty is at home. Many tests have been done and so far the labs are negative. Please pray for Betty, her parents and grandparents.

ABBA, this is stern, this is strong and I know it has come because You love us so much. I ask You to search my heart and any sin You find hiding in there, please shine You Holy Light on it and give me grace and faith to hate it; hate it so much that I will not even think about doing it. And I pray this for our IDOKs and every Reader. And perchance someone happens along over this page and he or she knows in their heart of hearts that there is a specific sin back there that they have confessed and maybe in this season are not even participating in it now, but they still think about it and still ‘miss’ it, I pray this very devotion will be a turning point for them and they will pray for and embrace Your Hatred for that sin and have the full victory that You desire to give them. I ask You Father to do a mighty work today in the hearts and minds of our People. LORD, You can set people free; whatever it is, it is not too difficult for You and You in them means it is not too difficult for them to put down, to hate and turn away from and be free. Make it so, LORD, make it so.

And there is a specific unspoken that came in today, You have already heard my prayer and now I ask You to hear the prayers of others as they pray for this dear Sister who has a decision to make. I pray she will receive and do what You say. Don’t let her miss You.

And as every day we bring this list of names, sweet and dear people in need of various things, do Your Thing for them ABBA I pray. Do Your Thing in keeping our IDOK Troops safe too and bring them home safe and sound at the appointed time. And Israel, love on them today and bring them to peace. Thank You for Your grace upon America, help us be instruments in Your Hands to bring Her to repentance. Amen and amen in the Mighty and Holy Name of Yeshua. I love You, LORD. Oh thank You for loving me! Amen and amen.
