The Time of the Evening Breeze

IDOK DEVOTION FOR WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2008

If you have been reading me for any length of time you know I have a thing about TIME. I termed it today in my prayer journal-ling, a stronghold. A stronghold from which I am seeking deliverance. And deliverance is on its way – I say that by faith. Especially since it is 12:54 PM and I am just starting this IDOK.
SO, when I came in from the porch this morning and after doing some odds and ends, I keyed in ‘time’ to BibleGateway.com in several translations. In the KJV there were 703 references to time; in the NKJV, 708; NIV, 889; NASB, 726; Amplified Bible, 838 and the Holman Christian Standard Bible, 840. I am working from the HCSB because it has the earliest reference – Genesis 2:4. [ Man and Woman in the Garden ] These are the records of the heavens and the earth, concerning their creation at the time that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.
Father is not bound by time but as I see it man has been from the beginning. And so I moved on to the next reference Genesis 3:8 and I really like the wording in the HCSB. [ Sin’s Consequences ] Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Will you put on your holy imaginations with me? We know from other Scripture that God is SPIRIT and therefore, not ‘visible’ to the natural eye of man. (John 6:46 not that anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God. He has seen the Father. AND John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”) Which is why verse 8 of Genesis 3 says the man and his wife HEARD THE SOUND of the LORD God – they had not SEEN Him. Don’t you wonder what HIS SOUND, sounded like? At this point in time, Adam and Eve had sinned and because of their sin they hid from His Sound. But I wonder if prior to sin when they heard His Sound, was it ‘music’ to their ears? Did their pulse increase with joyful anticipation? Did Eve let out a giggle? Did Adam’s steps quicken to the place? I think so. I think from the morning light they looked forward to the time of the ‘Evening Breeze’. For it was at that time they would have one on one fellowship with their Creator. Oh my, how glorious that must have been. I think Adam, Eve, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit delighted in these conversations. I think maybe they talked over the day’s activities. I think they may have discussed the giraffe and his long neck; the hummingbird’s delicate wings; the flight of the red-tailed hawk; the arbor of grapes on the east side and the patch of watermelons on the south end and on and on; just endless wonderful, beautiful, fun, exciting topics of discussion and not one sorrow! I can only imagine! Oh I like these imaginations so much I don’t want to move on but we must. It’s TIME. Be comforted Dear Ones, when TIME is no more ‘the time of the evening breeze’ will come again. And yet even here and now we enjoy a ‘flit’ of what will be again as we commune with ABBA in THE SPIRIT.
Lets look at another time reference. A reference to encourage us that even though Father is not bound by time, He knows we are wrapped up in it and we can be sure He will be ON TIME, EVERY TIME regarding us. Genesis 18:14 Is anything impossible for the LORD? At the appointed time I will come back to you, and in about a year she will have a son.”
And this one from Jeremiah 15: 11 [ The LORD’s Response ] The LORD said: Assuredly, I will set you free and care for you. Assuredly, I will intercede for you in a time of trouble, in your time of distress, with the enemy.
And then in Matthew 2:7 Then Herod secretly summoned the wise men and asked them the exact time the star appeared. At an exact TIME Jesus came. And throughout His TIME here as the God-Man He worked within TIME.
Luke 7:21 At that time Jesus healed many people of diseases, plagues, and evil spirits, and He granted sight to many blind people.
John 7:8 Go up to the festival yourselves. I’m not going up to the festival yet, because My time has not yet fully come.”
Mark 14: 40 And He came again and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to Him. 41 Then He came a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. Look, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Get up; let’s go! See—My betrayer is near.”
I am encouraged. Jesus knows all about TIME; He experienced TIME; He knows how to manage it. He did it. He can teach me and I can learn!
DADDY GOD, thank You for this. It has been fun and I am encouraged. You are speaking, You are teaching and I am learning and I am grateful. As You know Rachel told me this morning that Troy is having severe difficulties since he got home from Iraq. And she has asked that we bring to the forefront that coming home as wonderful as it is, is hard. And so we intercede right now for Troy. I think maybe this depression that has captured him is as serious as any enemy he faced in Iraq. So I am asking You to send reinforcements to Troy. To surround him with people that You have empowered to help him combat this enemy. I pray You will rescue Troy, his job and his family. And Father, our other IDOK Troops at home adjusting, and those still on foreign soil and other situations, guard them too; meet them where they are and bring alongside them helpers who will encourage and build them up, restore them and mature them in Christian Faith. And Lord we pray for these others too. As I look over the names there is serious illness and disease. Lord, heal them please. Let it be that cancers be not just managed but healed. And, Lord, the cancer of sin that has made the People of America so sick, heal us I pray. Again I ask for grace and space to repent. Again I ask that You bring Israel to Peace. And before we close, I pray our IDOKs will be increased in knowledge and wisdom and will enjoy a time of ‘evening breeze’ with You today. Amen and amen.

Looking For The But

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 12, 2008


My reading this morning began with Leviticus 26:11 I will place My residence among you, and I will not reject you. (HCSB) To continue my reading I stepped back to verse 3, reading the promises Abba made to Israel, that if they would obey Him He would prosper them. Here’s a link for you if you want to read all of chapter 26, which I hope you will.http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus%2026%20;&version=50; As you read you will hear all the good that was to come to Israel as they obeyed Yahweh. Rain would come in its season and trees would yield its fruit. He promised them BUMPER crops of grains and grapes. Food would be plentiful and peace would abound, when they laid down to sleep they would not be afraid for Jehovah would even render the wild beasts harmless to them. They would be full of power over their enemies, on and on He said to them: “For I will look on you favorably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you.” (verse 9). Israel could expect God to faithfully materially manifest these promises as they obeyed Him. I think you and I can expect similar promises as we obey Abba. I do not expect in this year of 2008 an exact physical, material manifestation of all these promises but I do expect these promises to be spiritually fulfilled to me as I obey Abba. And yes I do expect some material blessings as well. For His Word to us is Malachi 3:10 Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And Philippians 4: 19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. So I KNOW He will provide for me, for you, as we obey Him.
However, as I continued to read Leviticus I began to see other PROMISES. Promises that would just as surely be fulfilled if Israel failed to obey Yahweh. And again, I believe we can expect these ‘Promises’ to come to us if we fail to live godly lives. And so I kept reading and the ‘promises’ went from bad to worst, even fierce. I kept reading. I was looking for something. I was looking for the ‘but’. You see in Scripture BUT is a very good word. And I found it in verse 40. ‘BUT if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me, 41 and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; If their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt— 42 then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham I will remember; I will remember the land. And again He says BUT in verse 45. BUT for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.’”
Might you be looking for a BUT today? Maybe — I don’t know how I am going to survive this divorce BUT GOD will help me. I don’t know how we are going to make these ends meet BUT GOD has promised since we have been faithful, He will be faithful. I don’t know how I can endure this pain BUT GOD has promised He is with me. On and on we could go – whatever it is there is a BUT GOD for you and for me.
Abba, thank You for the BUTS in Your Word. BUT GOD – two beautiful words. Words of encouragement and hope and rescue. Thank You Abba. Thank You. And since You have reminded me I pray right now for someone dear to me – the day was rough yesterday, it was hot. I pray for refreshment for her today, in all ways. And we pray for all these too, each of them in one way or another needs a BUT GOD today. Open minds, hearts, eyes and hands to receive the BUT GOD that You have for each of them. And, Lord, America needs a BUT GOD too. And I pray for the Peoples of America that You will give space and grace for repentance – forgive us, Lord, and save us. Put every BUT GOD needed in the path of each of our IDOK Troops today too. And bring Israel to Peace for Jesus sake. And Father, take this IDOK and use it as You will. IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 11, 2008

It’s back to school today for Mobile and Baldwin Counties, Alabama.
Abba, I am thinking this morning about school buses and lunches and take-in bells, and car pools; so many busy activities this morning as our children and grandchildren go back to school. I pray for their protection in all this busy-ness. I pray that Moms and Dads will remember to pray with their ‘babies’ as they march them off to the bus or drop them at the take-in line. I am thinking of my own grand-babies that start again today. I pray for courage for the older ones to be strong in faith; to begin even today to establish again I am a Christian and I make my choices based upon You Lord. I pray for courage from them to be courteous but firm in all their conversations. I pray for protection for the younger ones as they learn and play. I pray for teachers, for calmness of spirit and for kindness to given and received. Lord, we are grateful for godly teachers and we pray for them for courage and strength and holiness to be found in them today and we pray for teachers that are lost; first that this year they come to know You too and we pray our children and grandchildren will help them along their way. And we pray for our babies that You will put a hedge of protection around them and that the youngest to the oldest will from the inside KNOW TRUTH and will not be swayed from TRUTH to lies. Thank You for schools, thank You for teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, every soul who speaks into the lives of our children and grandchildren while they are away from us and we pray You will be glorified today. We are entrusting them all to You today for protection, for learning, for Godly friends, and holy fun. And thank You for Brooklyn’s progress. Thank You for a successful surgery and Lord whatever You have for Brooklyn and her family we trust You for that to be. And we bring these today too. Thank You for the privilege of praying for them. We know You have good plans for them. We know You love them more than we can imagine and You will only good and holiness for them. Help us all to walk with You whatever road we are on today.
Psalm 118: 24 This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
25 Save now, I pray, O LORD;
O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity.
Yes, Lord prosper our children today in every place of education they go. And we do rejoice that You are Lord over this day and all our days. Lord, we do want our children to have higher education. We want them to come up HIGHER in You today. We as parents and grandparents want to come up HIGHER too. We want to be more noble in our pursuits and more godly in all our conversations. We want to be conformed to Your Image, Jesus, especially when we are surrounded by those who are not and we pray for those who are not that they will yet say yes to You, Lord. Amen and amen. They Were There

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 8, 2008

Prayer Insight: For some special someone(s) in my life I have prayed they will come to love Jesus so much they talk about Him to friends and strangers.
I am still reading in Luke 8. And verse 1 told us the Twelve were with Him and verses 2 and 3 tell us: 2 and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities—Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons, 3 and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.
Lets briefly look at these women; maybe we will be encouraged. Mary called Magdalene. A women who had been demon possessed, not just one but seven of them. And Joanna. Joanna was a married woman, married to Herod’s steward. Not too shabby, huh? And Susanna. And many Others. At first it does not seem the text tells us much about Susanna or the Others except — they were there. It would not surprise me if the women out numbered the men in Jesus’ entourage.
My sisters, NEVER accept that you are ‘second class’ to God. Sad to say some men see us that way. You have to know: Jesus Christ is the GREAT Emancipator of Women. He loved these women and He honored them by allowing them to minister to Him and to others alongside Him and the Twelve. And today, HE still honors women and allows us to minister to Him and alongside Him. Is He awesome? YES! A thousand times, Yes! But lets get back to Mary.
What does it mean to be demon possessed? Praise Father. I do not have any personal, experiential knowledge of that so we will have to do some research. My conclusion from surfing the NET is there is a plethora of information out there one can read but I think we are safe taking our lead from Scripture. I think we are all familiar with the man in the tombs. Mark 5:1-20 gives us the account. He began to reign in Israel at the age of 12. Here is a link http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Chronicles%2033%20;&version=50; to read more but let me give you an excerpt. … And he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. 4 He also built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, “In Jerusalem shall My name be forever.” 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. 6 Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger. 7 He even set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God … . Manasseh was so given over to demons that he even went into the Temple of Jehovah and erected altars to other ‘gods’ and upon these altars he sacrificed children (reminds me of abortion – a sacrificing of one’s own child on the ALTAR of SELF – but that could be a whole other IDOK. No. I am not saying women who abort there children are demon-possessed but I am saying without a doubt they are listening to Satan when they kill their babies via abortion!). How reprehensible can one be? BUT if you continue to read, you will see he repented and God saved him. Verse 13 in part reads: Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God. And the chapter goes on to tell the deeds he did which evidenced his repentance.
We don’t know how the demons within Mary manifested themselves in her behavior but we KNOW is was evil! And we KNOW Jesus set her FREE! He is still doing that for willing souls.
Joanna was a married woman of prominence. The Gospel of Jesus had reached the ‘House of Government’ (lets keep praying it does another House, and Senate too!) and she said YES. And Joanna was not a ‘quiet’ Christian. She was open and public and generous with her allegiance to Jesus. I am looking forward to meeting Joanna when I get to Heaven. I think she was strong, courageous, daring, ‘ahead of her time’ and I admire and respect her greatly!
As I said we do not know much about Susanna or the Others but you have heard the old adage, ‘Birds of a feather, flock together’? I think the fact that Susanna hung out and hung in with Mary Magdalene, a used to be who knows what! — and Joanna, a scrappy woman in a godly way, says all we need to know about Susanna (and the OTHERS too). She LOVED JESUS and she was not ashamed of Him!
The title of today’s IDOK is ‘They Were There’. Lets BE THERE. THERE wherever Jesus lead us – humbly and boldly! I like that. BE THERE in HUMBLE BOLDNESS!
To the few IDOK Brothers out there, thank you for indulging me this particular IDOK. The fact that you have taken part with IDOK tells me you have agreed with Jesus as He calls women into His ministry. I salute you and I thank you from the bottom of my heart! And in particular, I praise Jesus for my beloved, a man who encourages me daily to be humbly bold for Jesus. I love you, Jerry. You are still the best since Jesus to me!
Daddy God, You have given me happy tears today. Thank You. You are so truly AWESOME. Thank You for what You have already done with me and what more You will do I cannot even imagine, but Daddy do it! YOU ARE THE BEST!! Thank You for this IDOK. I offer it up to You for Your use anyway You will. Thank You for IDOK. It really is Your Ministry to us. You are so AMAZING. Thank You, thank You for what You are doing with us. Thank You particularly for the miracle You lavished on Bethany and I pray she will continue to read and grow in Your Word with her new eyes. Oh Lord I am looking forward to seeing the ‘Joanna’ or ‘Susanna’ or ‘Other’ You grow her to be. And not just Bethany but all my Girls! Thank You so much for them. I am blessed beyond any dream. And Lord You know our petitions for our IDOK Troops, for America, for Israel, for we Your People and for these listed here and we pray Your Will be done Abba. Davison and Mosley Families. Danni A.
