Transparency

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 2008

If memory serves only 3 times in my adult life have I picked up a book and finished it before going to sleep. This time it is Idol Eyes by Mandisa. I am not a fast reader and often I fall asleep but not with this one. I started it before breakfast and before bed time I closed the last page. I have highlighted, underlined and written prayers on more than a few pages.

She said Father has called her and us to three things: obedience, holiness and transparency. I like that and I want that!
We are familiar with each of these words: obedience, holiness and transparency. And maybe at some time we will look at all three of them but first I want us to examine transparency.

Readily when we think of transparent we think as my on line dictionary says: easily seen through and detected.
But that is not the complete meaning of transparency. Listen to this: capable of transmitting light so that objects or images can be seen as if there were no intervening material.
You can ‘see’ where I am going with this can’t you? But let me give you one more meaning of transparent according to my on line dictionary: free from guile, candid, open.
No kidding that’s what it said! I think Mandisa is right; being a transparent Christian would be GREAT!! Reminds me of this passage of Scripture

Matthew 5:
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. In other words may our Holy God be seen in us AS IF THERE WERE NO INTERVENING MATERIAL!! What would that intervening material be that would keep ‘men’ from seeing HIM in us? Only one thing our FLESH.

Father God this excites me. I want to be transparent! I want to be free from guile, be candid and open; to be  conduit for You to show Yourself in this world. Make me that way Lord Jesus; nothing in me can do that except YOU. Thank You for being here within us.

We have another update on Little Grant:
We just received some more good news from the doctors! Grant’s platelets are continuing to increase, and his hemoglobin is no longer dropping. He is urinating more and is starting to eat just a little bit. The doctor explained to us this morning that “recovery” comes in three stages: the first is platelet increase, the second is urination, and the third is when the kidneys begin to filter and clean the blood. We are waiting for “stage three”! Grant will have to continue dialysis until his lab work shows that his kidneys have begun to clean his blood. They are talking about the possibility of letting us out of the hospital tomorrow or Wednesday and letting us stay at The Ronald McDonald House, which is just a block away. We will just go back and forth to the hospital from there to do his lab work, blood pressure, and dialysis. We are so encouraged by Grant’s progress. He is still staying strong and as positive as possible. (Getting a little impatient and tired of being in this room.) Please pray that Grant’s kidneys will begin to clean his blood. We are excited about what God is doing in our lives!

We also have an update from Tressa: Brad and I went to a previous counselor and he did give me some hope for our marriage of 25 years. He said he was willing to work with us if he could hear from Brad. Brad continues to insist he wants a divorce. However, the counselor said he would be open to counseling us if he hears from Brad that he is willing to try. So if we could focus our prayers to soften Brad’s heart and move him to agree to counseling and that Brad would call the counselor for an appointment.

Father, thank You for this terrific news with Little Grant and we do pray that his kidneys will begin to function fully and properly and this little one will be able to thrive, go home with his folks, and grow into a godly man who will make a tremendous impact upon this world for Your Kingdom. We pray for Brad that he will allow You to soften his heart toward counseling and that he will call, make the appointment with an open mind and allow You to open his heart to Your Will for him and his family. Father, we don’t all the ins and outs of this family but we pray You will be Glorified in them all. We pray for Jon David and the scheduled surgery on Thursday that it will a textbook perfect surgery and recovery; we pray for his mom and dad and grandparents for strength and trust. And now as we have our list we pray for these; each of them in all their situations, asking for grace for today; grace to be obedient through struggles, strength to be holy when we feel like anything but holy and transparent so people will see You instead of us. We think there are houses that still need to be sold, so we ask for that; we believe precious ones are still grieving and we pray for strength to grieve in holiness; we pray for a caregiver for Emily Lu; we pray for complete healings of minds, bodies and hearts; we pray for conviction and repentance; we pray for life events and circumstances to change for the better; we pray for courage and determination to eat in healthy ways, we pray for the conviction to eat to live and not live to eat; and so much more for these Father – Thy will be done; make plain Your Will and we pray for all of us to have the Will to embrace Your Will for us.
