IDOK DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2008
3:16 by Max Lucado – a good book! And my reading in it today has prompted this IDOK.
Max said: “So how does he respond to our unholy hearts? Can a good cardiologist spot irregularity and dismiss it? Can God overlook our sins as innocent mistakes? NO.” (page 59)
So what does this mean for us? We know. We know it means: I John 4: 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
So God never said and will never say to us about our sins, ‘It’s okay Sweetie, I know you didn’t mean it.’ Trouble is, we do mean it. If we didn’t mean it, we wouldn’t do it.
Lets say the realization has come and one accepts she/he is a sinner and doomed for hell based upon the sin in his or her heart. Jeremiah 17: 9 “ The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? Now imagine this conversation with Jesus. Max puts it this way and I love it! “And so we do. Scarred and journey-hardened, we come. “Can you do something with his heart?” we ask. He nods and smiles. “Suppose we discuss a swap.” (page 61).
Our GREAT ESCAPE from hell, from the penalty of sin comes with THE UNPARALLELED SWAP. (page 60) “We enter Heaven, not with healed hearts, but with His heart.” How AWESOME is that?! Oh Abba, somehow get this UNPARALLELED SWAP so set in our souls that it shows up on our faces and in our feet and hands!
Let me come at this now from another angle. Lets say The Unparalleled Swap has taken place and we have been REGISTERED in Heaven and Abba now sees us through the Cross of Jesus and we are secured and saved. Hallelujah! All is GREAT! And then we mess up, we sin. How can that be? As I read a particular sentence in the book, I got this mental picture and I want to give it to you. Have you seen that drawing that depicts the Spirit Filled Christian as having Jesus on the Throne of his ‘heart’ (actually that would be the Throne of his ‘decision maker’)? It’s like this, here we are going through the day, having a good time and suddenly something goes awry and we are sorely tempted to respond not in our new nature in Christ (with our new HEART) but with the old one. Get this picture now. As we are sorely tempted to speak unkindly or pitch a fit or by our very body language let that cashier know we have better things to do than wait, we enter the Control Room (our decision making room) and there we see Jesus rightfully on The Throne. In order for us to speak unkindly or pitch a fit or cross our arms and stamp our feet, we have to say, “Jesus, get off the Throne, I am handling this MY WAY.” How sobering is that?
Lord Jesus, I have done this many times, many times I have entered the throne room of my decision making and I have said, ‘get off, I’m handling this my way’. Abba, I am so sorry and I am grateful for this word picture. I don’t want to forget it. In fact Holy Spirit when I am tempted to do it again I want You to bring this word picture vividly to my mind, hit me with it hard; hard enough that I will say Yes Lord Your Way, not my way. And I pray this too for any and every IDOK who will agree now in this prayer. Thank You Lord Jesus for your Unparalleled Swap. Thank You for swapping with me; for taking my sins and giving me Your Righteousness. And since You have done this and since You have given me this picture I am expecting more and more changes for the good in me and in each IDOK who agrees. You are AWESOME. Thank You. And now we pray for our IDOK Troops, for their protection in all ways and we pray for peace and provision for their families. And we pray for courage and strength for them to do the right things today in a hostile land, even if that hostile land for today is only in there own thought processes. Thank You for this Nation, thank You for people willing to defend it and thank You for people willing to live HOLY for the good of America. Rally some more to live Holy, Abba. And if You can use me to do that, here I am in Jesus name. We have a bunch of people listed here and they want us to pray for them; they want us to call upon Your Goodness and Your Love and Your Power and Your Provisions on their behalf and so we are and we thank You in advance for opening the Windows of Heaven to them and pouring out all they need, all we need today.
