Spider Webs and Flies

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2008

Twenty-Five of twenty five – a Great Recipe:
25- When you are feeling down, start listing your many blessings.
You’ll be smiling before you know it.

Have you ever noticed that when you walk upon a spider’s web that BEFORE you walk into it that you can bring it down with very little effort? I mean almost effortlessly that thing will be reduced to NOTHING. BUT if you carelessly walk into it (and who would walk into one on purpose?), it sticks to you, gets all over you and you have to pull and tug and pull and tug just about strand by strand to get that thing off of you? Ever notice that? And don’t you just HATE getting it all over you? YUCK! You feel dirty and just about defiled, don’t you? Is a picture forming for you here?
That is a really good illustration of Christians approaching temptation (sin) – any sin, whatever it might be. Before you step into it, you can in the POWER of the Holy Spirit tear that thing down as easy as a spider web. Remember until you actually walk into the Spider web, it is flimsy, has no concrete substance, no power whatsoever to entangle you. BUT once you walk into it you are gonna have to WORK to get out of that thing. Now visualize your last temptation. Did you tear it down or did you step into it? Did you say you tore it down? That is GREAT!! Didn’t it feel SUPER GOOD? Didn’t you just smile and breathe a sigh of relief and say thank You, thank You?! Now next time it will be just little bit easier to say no to that temptation and to say Yes to another Right Choice. But what if you didn’t make a right choice? What if you stepped into it? It was pretty yucky, wasn’t it? Are you still pulling the strands off of you? If so, keep it up! In time each will be gone and you will have gained invaluable vision and strength to avoid a similar trap in the future. Is it a long process? Some times it is but this you MUST know – the process will not be any longer than is absolutely necessary to give you keen enough vision and strength enough to ARM yourself to see and say NO before you step into a similar Web. BE ENCOURAGED! And from today forward every time you see a Spider Web remember this lesson and take courage and praise Father God for the lessons they teach us! And praise Him too that you are not a ‘fly’ – read on.
Lets look at the fly that gets caught in the spider’s web – he’s toast, he’s a goner. I mean he is dead meat — he is lunch for the spider! So who does this visual, picture? That’s right! Anyone and EVERYONE who has never said YES to Christ Jesus for Salvation. Such a one is caught even more surely than that fly in the spider’s web. Even as that fly cannot in any wise free himself; even as all he can do is just wait there to die and be devoured by that Spider, so is the one lost without Christ. Apart from Jesus that one, does not have a strand of hope for overcoming sin in this life nor a glimmer of hope for Eternal Life. But lets take this word picture a little further. Do you know what you and I can do? We can pick up a ‘wooden stick’ and we can extend that stick to the middle of that web, create some space (breathing room) and that fly can choose to be free. Now if those humans to whom we present this analogy are as smart as that fly, they will FLY to the CROSS of CHRIST and be free too.
But far be it from me to glory [in anything or anyone] except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) through Whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world! Galatians 6: 14 Amplified Bible.
And that’s how we live ‘ virtually web free’.
Father, open our eyes to see the souls in our lives that are caught like flies in the web of sin and give us hearts to pick up the CROSS of Christ and give them some breathing room to help them say YES to You. Oh, Father, please open my eyes and put me out there somewhere with someone who is ready to be free from the web of sin. I want You Father to make me a ‘big stick carrier’. I want to see You work through me to set people free. Thank You Father and now I come with Jewel, You know the need, You know the obstacles and You know the solution and we entrust her and her future to You and we do the same for these; they are varied needs, some we know, some we do not but in each case we ask that Your Peace be upon them and Your joy be made mature in them. Father, Our IDOK Troops keep them safe this day, protect them in mind and body and spirit. And again we ask You to bring them home to us safe and sound and more in love with You than when they deployed. And Father, I am personally offended at the News Media and their ways. I am offended that they go looking and maybe even goad some into voicing negatives as to this war that we are waging. And Father I am asking You to quiet the voices of liberals who love not this Country or You. And Father again I ask You to let not Baghdad or any of those lands fall into or continue to be control by those who say You are not God. Father forgive America and give us who love You more courage to speak and give us voice and action platforms to honor You and help this nation repent. We are a needy people Lord, help us pray and turn from our wicked ways for Jesus sake. Economic conditions, especially the effects it has upon the minds and hearts of people. IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2008

Twenty-Four of twenty five – a Great Recipe:
24- Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

Home again. Newest grand-baby is here; she’s beautiful, she’s strong, and she cries like a baby – but only when she needs something! Ma and Pa and brothers are in love with her and so are the grand-parents!
And in honor of ‘Baby June’ as big brother calls her:

May it be He will be her Lifesong and may He be ours today as well! To God be the Glory!
These are the words to the song featured above.
“Lifesong”
Empty hands held high
Such small sacrifice
If not joined with my life
I sing in vain tonight
May the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to You
Let my lifesong sing to You
Let my lifesong sing to You
I want to sign Your name to the end of this day
Knowing that my heart was true
Let my lifesong sing to You
Lord I give my life
A living sacrifice
To reach a world in need
To be Your hands and feet
So may the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to You
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Let my lifesong sing to You

ABBA, may the words I say and the things I do today bring a smile to You. I pray this for all our IDOKs too. We want to sign Your Name to the beginning and the end of this day knowing our hearts are true to YOU. To You be all glory and praise.
Thank You for the blessings You lavished upon us this weekend and those that are coming this day to each and everyone of us. We trust You ABBA in Jesus Name.

The 2 Samuel 6 Nugget

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2008
Twenty-Three of twenty five – a Great Recipe:
23- Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements.
I am thankful for_________. Today I accomplished
__________.

Are you ready for the 2nd Samuel Chapter 6 nugget that is just right for us in 2008? In the beginning of Chapter 6 not only is David disobedient but as king he is leading his people in disobedience and, of course, they are following. David is bringing the Ark of the Covenant home but not according to God’s previous and still standing instructions and great tragedy is the result. But David repents, God forgives and in verse 14 David has abandoned himself in worship of the LORD.
14 Then David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.
15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.
Let me share with you what Beth (Moore) wrote: We see David almost oblivious to everyone around him, totally liberated in the spirit, dancing through the streets of Jerusalem “with all his might” (v.14)! Oh, I love this scene! Centuries later, a group of disciples were stunned when Mary of Bethany poured the fragrance of abandoned worship on Christ’s feet (John 12:1-8). Completely abandoned worship is often misunderstood. We don’t see David practice outward worship often. Usually his worship took the form of songs, words, prayers, but this was a very special moment! One worth celebrating with complete abandon!
Let me tell you my dear friends I want this liberated, abandoned worship. At least once in my life I want to experience what David experienced here in chapter 6 and I hope you do too.
But there is more for us to see before we close for today. Beth said: Completely abandoned worship is often misunderstood. And so it was for David.
16 Now as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
Please recall that Michal is David’s wife, even the FIRST one he married and as she sees his abandoned worship she despises him. I think despise would translate to hate. She HATED David. Her heart, the seat of her emotions, was filled with hate for David. I tend to believe that hate included David’s God too.
Now lets pick up at verse 20 and see what happens when David gets home. The first sentence of verse 20 tells us he is going home in a GREAT mood. He is ready to lavish his household with blessings. Talk about a slap in the face – read what happened next.
20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”
21 So David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. 22 And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor.”
23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.
Can you play that scene on the screen of your mind? Let me give you more of what Beth wrote: David went home to “bless his household,” but he was met with ridicule and condemnation. He did not allow Michal to quench his spirit. He responded to her with the words, “It was before the Lord.” Can you almost hear him say, “How dare you! My worship was not for you, it was for the Lord!” Her scolding must have stung his heart. You can sense his reaction from the text, yet he resolved, “I will celebrate before the Lord.” He seemed to be saying, “Whether or not my family does, whether or not my friends do, whether or not this nation does, I will celebrate!”
And that’s the nugget in 2nd Samuel 6 (there are others too). Can we like David say whether my spouse or my children worship Jesus, whether my friends worship Jesus, whether folks approve or disapprove; whatever other Americans do or do not do, even if November 4 brings on a desecration of the White House; still I will celebrate JESUS?!!
Abba, I pray as our IDOKs read this they too will sense what good news this is; that we can celebrate You, we can worship You and this Nation in which we live cannot hinder us. We can choose to refuse to be hindered in giving You the worship You deserve. No people, no nation, no family member, no friend, no politician, no judge, no one can stop us from worshipping You – no one but we ourselves – please help us to abandoned ourselves in worship of You and You alone. Thank You for this Scripture. Thank You Holy Spirit for witnessing it to our spirits. This is good news and we receive it as good news. And now we look to our list and we remember them to You. How awesome it is that because of Jesus we can come before You and intercede for the help each of these need. Thank You for hearing our prayers and for answering. Thank You for the protection and grace You have given over and over to our IDOK Troops; thank You that Justin is safely home and we pray for the rest to come home safely too. Thank You for our IDOKs; thank You for this ministry; help me be faithful; help them be faithful in their respective places; revive Your Church; save and forgive America; bless Israel for Jesus sake.
