IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2008
It is SO Good to sit here again with you. Our Trip was quick and filled with good things, especially fellowship and food – lots of both! We are so blessed! And now it’s December 1 and 24 days till Christmas.
I’m reading a little book entitled ’31 Family Devotions for Christmas, published by Barbour Publishing, Inc. And Used by Permission’.
As the title implies it is a daily devotion. I’d like to share with you the prayer offered for today: “Father, Thank You for the upcoming holiday season. Thank You for sending Your Son for us. Help me to keep my focus on You this Christmas and to make this a time of love, hope and joy for my family and friends. Allow us to bless someone in need this year. As I begin planning for Christmas, let my heart be set on worshipping You this season and not expecting the “perfect” Christmas. Amen.”
I couldn’t have prayed it better myself! This says just what I have been saying to my beloved, that I am hoping for this Christmas to be a Season of Worship and not the rush, rush it so often has been. As the Lord leads I will share more with you the next 31 days from this little book.
I picked up my Amplified Bible this morning to read and seek a Word for us today. And I read a little here and a little there and then came to Matthew 14. In Matthew 14 is recorded for us the time when Jesus walked on the water and Peter set out to walk to Him. And you know the account and you know one of the encouragements from the happening is for us to keep our focus upon Jesus and we will walk over our troubles instead of drowning in them. And let us remember that today. But that is not what caught my eye this morning. It was verse 36 and it reads: “And begged Him to let them merely touch the fringe of His garment: and as many as touched it were perfectly restored.” and a KT note that is written by the text is ‘she had been talking’. And I am referring to the woman who had the issue of blood for 12 years. You remember the account, don’t you? We can find it in Matthew 9 and Luke 8. Jesus was in a crowd of people and she having exhausted not only money but herself trying to be healed came to Jesus and when she reached out and touched the fringe of this garment she was healed. Luke 8: 43 And a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians, and could not be healed by anyone, 44 Came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment, and immediately her flow of blood ceased.
What you may not have noticed but what you can imagine is this woman became a great ‘evangelist’. She talked about what Jesus had done for her. May we do the same! Let me show you what I mean. Read again verse 36: “And begged Him to let them merely touch the fringe of His garment: and as many as touched it were perfectly restored.” and Mark 6: 55 And they ran about the whole countryside, and began to carry around sick people on their sleeping pads or mats to any place where they heard that He was. 56 And wherever He came into villages or cities or the country, they would lay the sick in the marketplaces and beg Him that they might touch even the fringe of His outer garment, and as many as touched Him were restored to health.
Now, can I PROVE that others desired to touch the fringe of His garment because of this woman’s testimony? No. But I like to think it is so because it surely could be so. One Day in Eternity I think we will KNOW for sure. I am looking forward to that day. And in the meantime, Talk about Him. Talk about what Jesus has done for you. I am hoping for us all a great day of ‘spreading the Word’ today.

IDOK was ‘born’ five years ago with a simple insight into a verse of Scripture and a prayer for the day with about 5 friends. The number of friends has increased and the prayer base has too. IDOK is now, Praise to our ABBA, a connection point of prayer for many. I received a phone call last night from a close and yet far away IDOK with a prayer request. I don’t know the Shook family but this one is not easy to write. His name is Lucas, he is 21, he’s in Iraq and he is injured – not combat fire. We are not sure of the details but Lucas is grave with head, spine, groin and leg injuries. We have been asked to pray for him and his Mom and Dad. As I have updates I will pass them along to you.
And one of our own IDOKs had a stroke last week. She is improving but our prayers are needed for Mollie B. And continue praying for Bernie and Linda and their family.
ABBA we come this morning with grateful hearts and with heavy concerns for Lucas and his family. You know the GLORY You desire to bring in this tragedy and we pray that Lucas, his brothers, his mom and dad and others will see Your Glory in this. We don’t know Your Will but we pray for holy recovery for Lucas and peace and strength for his family. We pray for Mollie, for a remarkable recovery of speech and motor skills – You can do that for her Lord and we pray it will be so. And we pray for her sons and daughters for encouragement and peace for them. Thank You for this time together. Thank You for the means for it to be. And we pray too for each of these listed here. You know what You want to accomplish in each heart and each situation and we pray for it to be so. Thank You for our IDOKs. I know You are loving each one of them perfectly. Thank You. Amen and amen.
