IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2008
I was e-mailing with a sister IDOK today who related to me something about which she was praising the Lord. Last week she and I had discussed a situation she was facing which at that time consisted of some unknown facts and therefore the outcome was uncertain, but there seemed to be a potential for some harm. And so she and I agreed to seek the Lord together about it. Today, she gave me the good news that the outcome was much better than it could have been and she thanked me for my prayers. And this was my reply: I am SO glad I got to pray about it. It makes me feel like part of the answer and that is SO Good. It’s like giving a gift to you and I LOVE that. Isn’t that neat, praying for someone is giving them a Gift. Wonder if I can turn that into an IDOK for Tuesday?
I don’t know that I can locate specific Scripture that would in so many words say our praying for one another is a gift we give to one another but I really think the Spirit of Scripture would not be violated if we accept this as truth. Zechariah 8:21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to them of another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray and entreat the favor of the Lord and to seek, inquire of, and require [to meet our own most essential need] the Lord of hosts. I will go also.
22 Yes, many people and strong nations shall come to Jerusalem to seek, inquire of, and require [to fill their own urgent need] the Lord of hosts and to pray to the Lord for His favor.
James 5:16 Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].
And if you are like me it feels good to think of praying as a gift that we give to those we love. It feels so good to think that the prayers we have prayed have made us a part of what Father God has done for a sister or brother in the Faith. However, you may have thought as I have that it does not feel as well when we are praying for someone that we’d like to give them anything but a gift, unless we could consider a good swift kick to the seat of the pants as a gift. And so I have come to the conclusion that in such cases when we are praying for our ‘enemy’ we are doing just as Father has commanded that we do (Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, ) and in so doing I think we can call that praying a sacrifice and an act of obedience. Further I think we can safely say that kind of praying is a triple gift. One, an act of obedience which is not so much a gift to our Father as it is what we ‘owe’ Him, but I have a feeling it pleases Him so much that it feels like a gift to Him. And I can tell you for sure I LOVE that idea! Two, it’s a gift we give ourselves because praying for an enemy or one that we would rather not pray for places us in line for Father to bless us even more and who of us does not want that? And third, just like praying for someone we love, praying for someone God is enabling us to love, likewise lets us share in the good work that Father does in their lives. Either way it’s a win all the way around, don’t you think? How’s that for an incentive to pray?
I Corinthians 3:9 For we are fellow workmen (joint promoters, laborers together) with and for God; you are God’s garden and vineyard and field under cultivation, [you are] God’s building.
Father, thank You that You have already been hearing my prayers this morning for our IDOKs. Thank You that their needs are met already in You today. I pray for our willingness to receive today. I pray as this devotion comes to the screens of each of them today that You will reveal to each of them the message You have for them. I pray Your Word will be opened and received in each of our hearts. I pray we will be encouraged and strengthened today. I pray that we will come to love You with all our hearts, souls and minds. I pray for the upcoming women’s conference that You will see to it that it is attended by every woman who is hungry for a Word from You and who desires the comfort and fellowship of other sisters of Christian faith. LORD, You know what You want to give to the women in this area, You know what their needs are and I pray Thy Will Be Done. And You know each heart, soul and mind listed here. You know these people like no one else. You know what Your plans are for them; You know how to get them to the place of blessing and receiving that You want and I pray today they will be so moved. I pray for those that are suffering with pain and illness and disease that You will be exalted and glorified and they will be healed. And our IDOK Troops they are always our concern and we know You have been so gracious and full of mercy toward them. Thank You. And we pray today for their protection in mind, body and spirit. You have heard my prayers already this morning for Israel and I lift that again now. You have heard my prayers for America, for leaders and people to repent and I lift that again too. You know all our hearts and we pray for each other that IDOKs will be people of holy conduct for Jesus sake. Amen and amen. Unspoken Requests – situations so close you can only speak to Father about.
