Holiness – A Great Reward

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2008
17 Days till Christmas

If I should say I have a favorite Christmas carol-hymn I would say — O Holy Night. Not for the beautiful notes (by the way, many of which I cannot by any stretch, reach) but for the words. As you may know I really like words! And the words in particular that I am thinking this morning are – long lay the world in sin and error pining. I wonder if we have forgotten what a gift we have been given not just eternal life but as Romans 6:22 says “your present reward in holiness” Have we contemplated lately what a gift it is to have dominion – to have the will and the power, strength to say NO to sin? Think about it and look at Romans 6 with me.
12 Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil passions.
13 Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual] life, and your bodily members [and faculties] to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness.
14 For sin shall not [any longer] exert dominion over you, since now you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God’s favor and mercy].
Am I saying we in this life will be sinless (in practice, positionally we are in Jesus)? Of course not. But we certainly can cease to practice it as often. And how do we practice sin less?
17 But thank God, though you were once slaves of sin, you have become obedient with all your heart to the standard of teaching in which you were instructed and to which you were committed.
18 And having been set free from sin, you have become the servants of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in thought, purpose, and action).
And as another song goes, Oh Happy Day when Jesus washed my sins away. And not only my sins but then flooded us with POWER OVER SIN! One more verse…. Okay 2 more:
22 But now since you have been set free from sin and have become the slaves of God, you have your present reward in holiness and its end is eternal life.
23 For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.
Yes! Yes what a reward it is to live in holiness! His gifts to us are boundless!

O Holy Night

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
O’er the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wisemen from out of the Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friends.
He knows our need, our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

Father, thank You, thank You for the gift of holiness, power over sin in this life and eternal life too. Thank You. Bless IDOK today. I pray that this gift of life You have given us will break open fresh and new within us and our countenance will light this world. Thank You for the good work You are doing in our lives and thank You for loving us; help us love You more today than we did yesterday for Jesus sake. IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2008
20 Days till Christmas
Is it me or does that seem impossible? 20 days till Christmas!

The following is “From 31 Family Devotions for Christmas, published by Barbour Publishing, Inc. Used by Permission.”
The holidays are a wonderful time to remember and talk about our journey to faith. It is very important for our children and our families to hear how we came to know Christ and what the gift of God’s Son means to us. Take a moment to have all family members share what God is doing in their lives.
Family Activity: After dinner one evening, share memories of Christmases past. Talk about favorite ornaments on the tree and where they came from. Tell about your favorite Christmas as a child or special traditions you remember. You and your children will enjoy hearing what each family member has considered special or memorable in the past.
A Recipe:
Extraordinary Ohio Buckeyes
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
2 cups semisweet, milk or white chocolate chips
Toothpicks for dipping
Line cookie sheets with wax paper and set aside. Mix peanut butter and butter until creamy. Add sugar a little at a time. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Roll peanut butter mixture into 1 inch balls. Place on wax paper and freeze for 39 minutes or until firm. In microwave-safe dish, melt chocolate chips in microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir. Repeat until chips are melted. Do not scorch. Insert toothpicks into frozen peanut butter balls and dip balls in chocolate. Let cool on wax paper. Store in cool place. Makes about 100 buckeyes.

Ok all you extraordinary people — enjoy!
Psalm 37
28 For the LORD loves justice,
And does not forsake His saints;
They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
The LORD loves justice. Four important words for us to remember when we hear ABBA accused of being unfair, allowing wrong deeds to go on and on; especially if it is our own FLESH that is doing the accusing.
He has not and will NEVER forsake us. Through it all He is with us. Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?
John 1:14 And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth.
Lord, we want to see Your Glory. We are a needy people and our greatest need is to worship You. Help us cleanse our hearts and our ways so You can trust us with Your Glory this Christmas. You have said Your Word will not return back void but will accomplish what You will. Accomplish, O Lord, accomplish much in us today we pray. And remembering these we call their names to You and we pray Thy will be done ABBA. Unspoken Requests – situations so close you can only speak to Father about. Terry and family. Julia O. Ann C. IDOK DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2008
21 Days till Christmas

What we can learn from a dog: 2 Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Remember yesterday’s devotion (Wednesday)? Remember ‘With the Holy Spirit within empowering us, ordinary Christians can do extraordinary things.’ ? After posting Wednesday’s edition to you, I turned on the television. I don’t usually do that at 7:00 AM. And who was on? Beth Moore. And what was she talking about? That we are extraordinarily gifted to affect and influence our world. And following Beth I saw John Hagee. And what was he talking about? Jihad. And what was the information we looked at on Wednesday? Jihad. Would you say we are on to something here? I really want you to hear what Beth said in Wednesday’s Session. In light of Wednesday’s IDOK, I REALLY think you must hear this: http://lifetoday.TV/qt/2008/12/81203.htm

I hope the link works for you.
And for more on the Jihad and the Obama Administration check out December 3, 2008 blog post at http://flashtrafficblog.wordpress.com/
Now on with other matters. I think I have just one verse to share with you today. 2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be to God Who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
A couple days ago as I entered a vacant Post Office lobby I immediately knew another woman had been there. I saw no signs of her but I knew she had been there. How did I know? Her fragrance. The scent of her perfume lingered even after she was gone. Why am I telling you this? Because as I read our verse for today, this incident immediately came to mind. Through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. How pleasant is this thought? That we would be diffusers of the FRAGRANCE of God in every place?
Diffuse per freedictionary.com: 1. To pour out and cause to spread freely. To become widely dispersed; spread out. The previous Post Office visitor in the course of her morning had taken the time to put on a ‘fragrance’ and every place she went the fragrance was diffused into that place and even when she left, her fragrance lingered. Is a picture forming for you? Read again the text. Now thanks be to God Who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
It is the Father’s will that we always triumph in Christ Jesus. He will always lead us to triumph. Does that mean that every effort we make will be perfect, or every event will be pleasant, or every circumstance will be resolved satisfactorily, or every hurtle in our day we will cleanly sail over? Of course not! But it does mean that in Christ Jesus we are empowered to progressively triumph over imperfections, un-pleasantries, dissatisfactions, and hurtles that would impede our race to the finish. And each triumph, each victory is a fresh dose of fragrance diffused in every place we move and breathe. And what is this fragrance? This fragrance is Jesus. And can you fathom it? WE. We, you and me, are allowed the extraordinary privilege of being a vessel through which the Holy Spirit diffuses the FRAGRANCE OF GOD in every place we occupy!! This is our calling. As we TRIUMPH in the ordinary we are doing the extraordinary! We are giving the Holy Spirit reign in us to widely disperse the Knowledge, the very aroma of Christ Jesus – that Sweet Sacrifice, that Sweet Smelling Aroma that He is to God the Father, into our world. Remember the song, ‘What The World Needs Now Is Love’? I don’t disagree with the need for love but what the world really needs is a bunch of Christians that Smell Like Jesus in EVERY PLACE!! Can you say EXTRAORDINARY? Dear One, YOU are extraordinary! Settle for nothing less. Let NO ONE (not even yourself!) tell you, you are less than extraordinary. For IN Christ Jesus, Girlfriend and Guyfriend, YOU have the extraordinary privilege of SMELLING LIKE JESUS for such a time as this!!! Maybe in the days ahead when we catch a pleasant, familiar scent around the corner or while passing an isle in the grocery store, we will be reminded that we are called to allow the Fragrance of The Lord Jesus to be diffused in this very place today.
Every Place, make it so Lord. Make it so that in Every Place we are Holy Spirit we give You free reign to diffuse the Fragrance of the Lord Jesus through us and all around us. Make this devotion, especially to me, Lord, more than just words on a page but real life to each of us. Thank You for the messages and information You have entrusted to us and will yet entrust as we embrace, digest and walk out in every place message by message. We are mindful of these listed here, that each and every one named here is so named because some one believes You love and care and are willing to intervene on their behalf. Oh ABBA that is so good. Faith put these names on this page and faith moves You to act on our behalf. Oh ABBA that makes me smile. Thank You. Thank You that You answer our prayers. We are encouraged. Thank You. Thank You. And because of great concern, respect and love we again specifically ask You today to protect our IDOK Troops. To keep them safe in mind, body and spirit and to bring them to loving You more and more. And for those same reasons we pray for our persecuted Christian Brothers and Sisters around the world that they will be wise and discerning; that You will protect them and that they will be filled with Your Joy especially when they bear the marks of suffering for Jesus sake. We continue to think about and wait upon You to lead us and reveal to us the actions You want us to take regarding Israel and Her enemies, our enemies, corruption in America, monies and possessions, ways and methods of evangelizing Your Gospel, loving people while hating their sins, outlawing abortion, preserving and protecting marriage as You define marriage, educating our children and grandchildren and protecting them from predators, edifying Your Body, Lord, and so many other things that I do not yet have the vocabulary to voice. We want to serve You Lord in any of these areas that You will allow us. We want to pray effectively, we want to speak and act effectively, we want to be useful to You, we want to extraordinarily influence people and laws. We want holy boldness in these last days. We want to storm the gates of hell with You Abba and see You through us rescue people from hell, Satan and sin. Do it in us Lord – make us willing and ready as You will. Amen and amen.
