Beth and Me

IDOK DEVOTION FOR WEDNESDAY, JULY 22, 2009

My study time was brief yesterday and I did not settle in to write this morning I have walked 2.22 miles, packed my beloved a lunch, and have decided to let Beth Moore share with us today from her devotional book Breaking Free Day by Day. Today’s reading is this:

What fruit was produced then from the things you are now ashamed of? Romans 6:21

Have you noticed that there is no such thing as a small act of disobedience? To disregard God’s commands is a sure way to bear bitter fruit, sooner or later. Some of Israel’s kings who otherwise followed God’s ways still failed to tear down the high places of pagan worship. Ultimately, this oversight took its toll. A kingdom resulted in which God’s own people sacrificed their children to pagan gods.

Truly, anything we exalt over God in our thoughts—even a little thing—is an idol, which is a terrible affront to God. It is also an open invitation to disaster. Never forget the ever-increasing nature of sin.

Even though I am brief this morning I cannot let this observation pass. A kingdom resulted in which God’s own people sacrificed their children to pagan gods. America dare not thumb her nose at this event in Israel’s history as since Row v Wade Americans have sacrificed more than 38,325,000 of their own children to the god of self in the abortion mills across this Land. What a gracious God we have that He has not annihilated us.

Lamentations 3:22 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.

Romans 6:

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

May the Peace of God and our gratitude to Him rule in us today so that we will not sin against our God!

As I post this it is 108°F and haze in Al Asad, IQ (Airport), and the time there is 3:37 PM AST on July 22, 2009.
