Toxic Word Dump

Day 5

Soul Detox

A toxic thought contains poisonous material that can cause sickness and even death. We will identify and reject all toxic thoughts and we will replace those thoughts with God’s truth.

In what ways do you renew your mind and focus your thoughts on God’s truth?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

Our reading passage for today is Romans 12:1-21. Click HERE to read.

21 Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.

via Romans 12 CJB – I exhort you, therefore, brothers, in – Bible Gateway.

We conquer toxic (evil) thinking with Scripture (good) thinking. Scripture WILL over come evil WHEN we apply it.  It is so easy to get caught up in thought. That word train starts off with one thought and before we know it we are half way across the country ready to jump off a cliff because of our own failures or ready to push someone else over because of theirs.  Brethren and Sisters this ought not to be so.  Romans 12 says so.

Cleaning up a toxic word dump is the hardest work we will ever do. It’s slow and it’s painful. What we must decide is — is it worth it?

Ezekiel 18:20 King James Version (KJV)

20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

via Ezekiel 18:20 KJV – The soul that sinneth, it shall die. – Bible Gateway.

In the vernacular of old:  Every tub must sit on its own bottom. I cannot blame another for my toxic thoughts, nor my toxic deeds. Neither can you.

Day 4

Soul Detox

And today’s question? I am eager to hear your answers.

Why is it easier to think toxic thoughts than it is to focus our minds on the truth?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

Our suggested reading is Philippians 4:1-13. Click HERE to read.

5 Let everyone see how reasonable and gentle you are. The Lord is near!

via Philippians 4 CJB – So, my brothers, whom I love and long – Bible Gateway.

Oh I want that! To be reasonable and gentle.  I know it will take replacing toxic thoughts with GOD’s WORD for that to happen and I know it is a process – just some progress everyday that’s what it takes.

Just for fun I reviewed the definition of reasonable.

1. Capable of reasoning; rational: a reasonable person.
2. Governed by or being in accordance with reason or sound thinking
3. Being within the bounds of common sense
4. Not excessive or extreme; fair

via reasonable – definition of reasonable by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Number 2 is the one that does it for me. Governed by sound thinking!  That is what getting rid of toxic thoughts is about. Being governed by the SOUND thinking of the HOLY SPIRIT as He applies the SCRIPTURE to our minds. All HE needs is our cooperation!

13 I can do all things through him who gives me power.

via Philippians 4 CJB – So, my brothers, whom I love and long – Bible Gateway.

Gentle.

1. having a mild or kindly nature or character
4. easily controlled

via gentle – definition of gentle by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Kindly nature and character.  Yes! Easily controlled – by the HOLY SPIRIT! Oh yes! yes! That’s what we want!! Getting rid of those toxic thoughts; giving them NO HOME in our minds will make it so of us!

Reasonable and Gentle! With GOD’s help! We can do this!

Soul Detox – Day 3

Soul Detox Devotion suggests we have 4 categories of toxic thoughts.  Check them out.

negative, fearful, discontented, and critical

Which types of toxic thoughts do you experience most often? What are some examples of your toxic thoughts?

via Jeremiah 12 NASB | YouVersion.com.

Our Soul Detox suggested reading is Jeremiah 12. You might notice Jeremiah had some toxic thoughts and he vented them to Yahweh. We can do that and when we have  a submissive heart, He will heal us.

Negative: 2. lacking positive or affirmative qualities, such as enthusiasm, interest, or optimism 3. showing or tending towards opposition or resistance via negative – definition of negative by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Fearful: scared, afraid, alarmed, frightened, nervous, terrified, apprehensive, petrified, jittery via fearful – definition of fearful by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Discontented: (with this one, don’t ‘kill’ the messenger; this is what it says): dissatisfied, complaining, unhappy, miserable, fed up, disgruntled, disaffected, vexed, pissed off (taboo slang), displeased, fretful, cheesed off (Brit. slang), brassed off (Brit. slang), with a chip on your shoulder (informal) via discontented – definition of discontented by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Critical: marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws  via critical – definition of critical by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Starting at the bottom, this I can say I do not want to be known by family and friends as a person marked by a tendency to find and call attention to errors and flaws.  Of this I am sure! IF I think that way regularly and consistently I will talk that way. So will you.

Discontented. I think all I can say to this is it is the opposite of

11 Not that I am saying this to call attention to any need of mine; since, as far as I am concerned, I have learned to be content regardless of circumstances.

via Philippians 4:10-12 CJB – In union with the Lord I greatly – Bible Gateway.

which could only mean when I think discontented (toxic) thoughts, I will surely speak them and that will put me in direct violation of my ABBA’s Word.

Fearful. Need we discuss that? We KNOW perfect love casts out fear. So if we are full of fearful (toxic) thoughts, we can know for sure we are doubting the LOVE of our GOD – lacking in spiritual maturity.  That smarts! Ouch!

1 John 4:18 King James Version (KJV)

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

via 1 John 4:18 KJV – There is no fear in love; but perfect – Bible Gateway.

Negative. Toxic indeed! Could ruin a perfectly good life with this category! And I don’t want a ruined life — it’s the only one I get here on planet earth and I understand that how I live here determines my rewards in Heaven.

1 Corinthians 3:14-16 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

14 If the work someone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward;
15 if it is burned up, he will have to bear the loss: he will still escape with his life, but it will be like escaping through a fire.
16 Don’t you know that you people are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

via 1 Corinthians 3:14-16 CJB – If the work someone has built on the – Bible Gateway.

I think I have said enough for today, :)
