Weed Fertilizer

For Tuesday, November 2, 2010

There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. Matthew 10:26 NIV.

An allegory came to me this morning as I pulled a few weeds from our herb garden.

Pulling a few takes much less time than pulling a lot — timing is important — neglect plus procrastination = weed fertilizer!

Peering at the garden from my standing height on the drive, I saw a sprout or two of unwanted(s).  It was not until I knelt down to pull them that I noticed several more weeds.  When I grasped the leafy stems slightly protruding above the mulch to give them a good yank, a larger root system came out of the ground than I expected.  In fact with some of them what was below the surface was more than was above.

You know I think that goes for good as well as evil in this allegory of mine.

In the soil of my heart are (good) seeds planted by the HOLY SPIRIT and (evil) seeds sown by the flesh, the world and the devil. Each needs a ‘root system’ before putting out shoots.  Which means I need to carefully stand guard over my heart and immediately when a weed-shoot appears, go to my knees petitioning my HEAVENLY GARDNER to come and help me pull out those weeds; and while I’m kneeling there with HIM, I would be wise to invite HIM to look and point out to me any weed sprouts I might have overlooked.  The sooner those weed-sprouts are pulled the better.  The less time we allow wrong attitudes and hostile thoughts to grow in the soil of our hearts, the easier it is to the pull them out and the less chance there is for spreading, multiplying, and making more weeds.

Good fruit or bad weeds (that’s redundant — all weeds are bad, aren’t they?)  produced in the garden of our lives begin in the soil of our hearts; and it’s our duty and our privilege to oversee that soil, to ensure the  nurturing of the good and the plucking up and out of the bad.

Weed fertilizers.

An oxymoron, I hope we will not soon forget. Neglect and procrastination, what every weed craves and needs to yield a bumper crop of misery and regret.

I highly recommend we daily kneel over the gardens of our hearts and invite our ABBA to inspect the soil for malignant, invasive root systems and weed sprouts.

But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. Luke 8:15 NIV (2010)

ABBA, thank You for this allegory, I pray HOLY SPIRIT in JESUS name that You will enable it to minister and bless my sisters and brothers.

You know my heart for our IDOK Troops, our Praying for These Loved Ones, Israel and the Plans You have for them, my pleas for a  Third Great Awakening in America, to be a part of it, to witness a revival that will change this Nation’s culture,  Tuesday’s elections and every spoken and unspoken request of all our IDOKs as they gather in their respective places to read and pray, correct us, encourage us and transform us I pray. Amen and amen.

Holy hugs, kt
