Living for Others by Sandra Drescher

When my brother returned from visiting friends, he brought a recipe with him for homemade bread. He liked it so well that he wanted to learn to make it himself. His first loaves weren’t as good as those his friends had made, but he kept trying, and each time turned out better. Soon our family thought his bread was better than any other kind.

Doing good deeds is like baking bread. The more often I do them, the easier they become. When it becomes natural to do things for others, I can no longer be satisfied with living only for myself.

He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need (Eph. 4:28 NIV).

Thank You, Father, for the desire to do good deeds. Make them so much a part of my life that I would be uncomfortable not doing them amen.

AMEN and amen!  Couldn’t have said it better myself as we countdown to Thanksgiving Day!!  Remember Praying for These.

Horizontal Let Go

IDOK Devotion for Friday, November 19, 2010

Today I heard Chris Shook say:

” A Loving relationship is as much about what you let go of as much as what you hold on to.”

How would that revolutionize our relationships with spouses, children, family, friends?

Letting go of our ‘right to hold it against them’ does not let them off the hook . . . it lets US off the hook!

Forgiveness.  One of the greatest gifts ever given to mankind. The only one that tops it is LOVE.  And yet these gifts come wrapped together, for only love enables one to forgive. And forgiveness enables us to love.

So what do you need to let go of so a loving relationship can continue? And will you do it?

Philippians 3: (New American Standard Bible) 13Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Obedience to these verses matures us as Christians  and yet as we embrace them for JESUS sake, to know Him and become more like Him, we will find ourselves letting go horizontally, giving way for other relationships to keep on going and going.

Sweet Blessings Be upon each of you this weekend!

Reminiscing

IDOK for Thursday, November 18, 2010

I am telling you by faith that I have turned the corner toward getting well. I was feeling more confident of that earlier in the day than I am at this writing, but still, I am improving and I thank you so much for your prayers!

November 18 is a special day for me. It’s my spiritual birthday. Right about 9:00 PM November 18, 1975 is when JESUS saved me. You’d think after 35 years I’d be much more mature than I am, BUT I shall not dwell on that, rather I thank Him that I am not where I was and not yet where I will be!

So today I am asking you to contemplate your re-birth. Perhaps you do not recall the day, date, and time as I do, but you do recall JESUS lifting your sins from your shoulders and replacing them with His Righteousness. Remember and rejoice today that you have been forgiven and Heaven is your home!

And if you would like to read again (or for the 1st time) my salvation story, go to I Remember the Day. This particular writing was done 2 years ago.

Earlier today (Wednesday), Joann Givhan, gained SIGHT of the promise of eternal life. Please pray for her family as they learn to adjust to life here without her.

1 John 5: (New American Standard Bible) 12He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.  13These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

There are no words, LORD JESUS, that would be adequate enough to thank You for saving me 35 years ago and keeping me saved forever. Thank You. I pray now for every reader who comes to this page that perchance You bring someone who is lost, that You, HOLY SPIRIT, will convince him or her of their need to be saved and that You are more than willing and able to save them now and forever.

Thank You for taking Joanne HOME and now I pray for Ed as he finishes his course here without her.  I pray for his comfort and strength to be meet for his days and we pray for friends and family that they will find their comfort and strength in You. Also, I want to remember again all those on our lists.  You know every need, every heart and face; I pray they will know and believe You. I ask again that You continue to protect our IDOK Troops and to bring them home safe and sound; I pray also for Israel, for peace and safety for them; and I pray for an Awakening of the American People to You. HOLY SPIRIT, please pour out Your Spirit of conviction and conversion upon this Nation from shore to shore, North, South, East, and West in JESUS NAME. Amen and amen.

More Giving!

IDOK Devotion for Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Prayers for this crud to go away would not be wasted on me! :) I do not remember the last time I was THIS sick. But as I told my Baby Girl this afternoon, JESUS is Present and so Sweet to me.

And now that the day (Tuesday) is approaching a close, especially for me, and for lack of better words, I’m just plain worn out, but I don’t want to miss giving you something to mull over in the morning.  I see a pattern here and it’s not my doing! I think you’ll see it too in Helen Steiner Rice’s poem from A Collection of Love Gifts which poem just ‘happened’ to be at the place the book opened for me tonight.

Give Lavishly! Give Abundantly!

The more you give, the more you get — The more you laugh, the less you fret–The more you do unselfishly, the more you live abundantly. . .

The more of everything you share, the more you’ll always have to spare– the more you love, the more you’ll find that life is good and friends are kind. . .

For only what we give away, enriches us from day to day.

Any of you find this true?

2 Corinthians 9:(New American Standard Bible) 6Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.  7Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

And I said to my Sunday School Class some months back, “Does that mean God does not love the grumpy giver?” Of course not, He loves them too but perhaps He does not enjoy their company as much. :)

ABBA, I ask You now for restful and restorative sleep for myself and for all our IDOKS. And thank You for reminding me of Joann Givhan. The family has done what they believe is right to do; we are waiting on You, ABBA.  And we pray for peace and comfort for each of them who love her so much, especially Ed.

And, ABBA, there are others on my mind too, You know their names, You know the hurt, You know the chaos and I am asking You to step in and rescue this family, particularly that young, impressionable teenager. Save her from herself I pray.

And we dare not forget the remainder of our Praying for These, wanting and asking for Your blessings upon them all. And on our IDOK Troops, safety and protection and peace of mind. And yes, HOLY SPIRIT, again I ask You for a pouring out of Your Conviction that will convince the people of America to repent in JESUS NAME.  Amen and amen.
