The Guide

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, APRIL 15, 2008

Today’s thoughts may not be thoughts to which you all can relate and if not please forgive me.
I sometimes have to do trial and error with fitted sheets. Sometimes I pick the wrong corner of the sheet for the right corner of the mattress and when I do that, that sheet just will not fit that bed. And today I made a discovery; these particular sheets have obscure vertical stripes. I say discovered because I have known since purchase that the sheets were solid colored with a subtle stripe. But it was today that knowledge became useful. Let me tell you how. If I use the stripes as my guide, the corners take care of themselves. WOW! No more starting and stopping and turning — the sheets go on right the first time, every time. The right sheet corner for the right corner of the mattress is easy! And as soon as this GREAT REVELATION came to me, I thought ‘you, dummy why did you not notice that before’!
And then I thought IDOK – I can tell on myself and in the process just maybe make a spiritual application that will help us all!

Obviously, calling myself a dummy for my slow observation is not good. It would be far better for me to just be thankful for the ‘revelation’ and rejoice that every Monday morning hereafter I will not be delayed with sheet-to-mattress trial and error. I think this could be true in many other areas – berating ourselves is shall I say NEVER good. It is a waste of time and it profits us nothing. An attitude of gratitude is best even when we are slow to recognize the guidelines. Even when we are slow to pick up on something that in hindsight is now so obvious, just rejoice and move on.

I think I can safely say we all have a Bible or two in our homes and I think I can safely say that we have a general understanding of The Scriptures. But that general understanding of the ‘obscure stripes’ of the Text is not useful to us until we embrace those (obscure stripes) Scriptures as our Guide for the tasks we do every day. It is paying attention to what we already know sometimes that makes all the difference.
I could ask us today what in The Word of God do we already know that we are not allowing to be our GUIDE. I think if we are determined to obey we will be saying WOW! No more starting and stopping and turning with this task anymore – The Word Works!!

Psalm 77:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, And my spirit makes diligent search.

Jude 1: 17 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Timothy 2: 14 Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.    source

Father God, we invite you Holy Spirit to make a diligent search of our hearts for the areas that we know and yet we are not observing, illuminate us Lord and give us wills and desires to obey You. Cause us to be willing to allow Your Word to be our Guide in all the tasks and goings on of life here. Thank You for the day that is before us. We continue to ask that You bless, keep safe, and inspire to witness those who are traveling this week. And yes those of us who are in our usual places, inspire us to witness too. We bring our prayer lists here and ask Your Best for each of them; give them strength of mind, body, and spirit. And we pray for our IDOK Troops today, for their safety, asking that You protect them from all harm, asking that You give encouragement to them today, encourage them that they are getting the job done and that they are appreciated; Lord, love on them for us today. And again we ask that You bring this war to a successful conclusion. We pray for the repentance of the Presidential Candidates and we pray for mercy and grace to repent for America too. We pray for Your Church that She will be revived and in practice become a ‘spotless’ Bride. Thank You for these we call IDOKs, bless them today with strength and peace and comfort and courage, wisdom, and discernment as well as daily bread. Thank You Father in Jesus name.

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2008

Many of us are familiar with Isaiah 14
12 How have you fallen from heaven, O light-bringer and daystar, son of the morning! How you have been cut down to the ground, you who weakened and laid low the nations [O blasphemous, satanic king of Babylon!]
13 And you said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit upon the mount of assembly in the uttermost north.
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.
15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol (Hades), to the innermost recesses of the pit (the region of the dead).
I am excited to tell you that I was privileged to find another I WILL passage this morning… And oh the difference!!
Psalm 101
A Psalm of David.
1 I WILL sing of mercy and loving-kindness and justice; to You, O Lord, will I sing. A very good choice
2 I will behave myself wisely and give heed to the blameless way–O when will You come to me? I will walk within my house in integrity and with a blameless heart. Wise conduct even when no one is looking – even in the solitude of our own house
3 I will set no base or wicked thing before my eyes. I hate the work of them who turn aside [from the right path]; it shall not grasp hold of me. Choose carefully what we allow into our being through our eyes… Some things just happen in a moment and we have no control over it but truthfully … That is rare. Notice it says I hate the work of them who turn from the right path… Didn’t say I hate them… But the “work” they do. Make the choice to stay on the right path and what happens to them who leave the right path will not get a strong hold on us.
4 A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil person or thing. When shall a perverse heart depart from me? When I choose to take no evil thing or person to my bosom.
5 Whoso privily slanders his neighbor, him will I cut off [from me]; he who has a haughty look and a proud and arrogant heart I cannot and I will not tolerate. Strong stand here… Puts gossip, arrogance, and pride to flight in less than a heart beat!
6 My eyes shall [look with favor] upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks blamelessly, he shall minister to me. Seeking out those for “bosom buddies” who are like-minded
7 He who works deceit shall not dwell in my house; he who tells lies shall not continue in my presence. Invite nothing to come and dwell with us that violates truth… Father’s Truth.
8 Morning after morning I will root up all the wicked in the land, that I may eliminate all the evildoers from the city of the Lord. Faithfully day after day, morning by morning, moment by moment I will make Godly choices… Will I? I better!!
Now let us fail not to balance the above with the below. People who do not KNOW The Shepherd need us to Lead them to HIM.
John 17
14 I have given and delivered to them Your word (message) and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world [do not belong to the world], just as I am not of the world.
15 I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world (worldly, belonging to the world), [just] as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.
18 Just as You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
Will we go?
Father, as always I did not know where we were going this morning when we started this screen; thank You that You always know. And now help me embrace this and WILL to do YOUR WILL moment by moment this day. Help me choose wisely and embrace what You embrace and reject what You reject . . . Sin, but not those committing it. I bring my email family to You this morning and each and every person who will read Your Word, plant it in our hearts and for each need of each I pray we will choose to receive Your provision for that need and thank You that You will watch carefully this day over each and every one of us and that You will not fail us this day or ever… Help us to fail not You this day for Jesus sake.

Some IDOK families are traveling this week and our prayers would be so appreciated.
Father, thank You for this I Will reminder from four years ago – Your Word is fresh today. Thank You for the days of rest we have enjoyed and now as we look to a new work week I pray for our IDOKs, for their places of employment and we ask You to enter those work places with them; help them make a holy difference there. You know those traveling and we ask for Your Grace and Favor upon them, not only for safe travels and a good time but for opportunities to share Your Gospel with souls that do not yet know they can be forgiven. We pray for sick folks that You will touch them with Your Healing Lord Jesus; we have many listed here. And we pray for our IDOK Troops for their protection today, for their thoughts and wills to be set on You today; Lord, keep them safe from all harm and when they have completed their individual missions, please bring them safely home to family and friends. And we ask again this morning for a successful conclusion to this war and we thank You for the progress that has been made and is being made; we thank You for the good work that is being done and we pray that word of the good works will be made known at large. We pray today for the presidential candidates that each will repent and we pray for Your Choice to be elected. And as is our custom Lord we pray for the Peace of Israel, especially this week as they approach Passover, we pray that at least one Soul will embrace Your Peace as Messiah, as their own personal Passover Lamb. Father, I am not privy to all the needs and concerns of these listed here but I know You are and so we join as Your Daughters and Sons together in prayer for these that You will be glorified and these will be made whole in Jesus Name. The Most Important Thing Of The Day

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 11, 2008


As I begin jotting these notes it’s 12:18 PM Thursday and I have had a conscience sense of satisfaction, contentment and just plain feeling good that has stopped me periodically this morning in mid-thought just to give thanks. What’s all that about you might ask. It’s about knowing that I have already accomplished the MOST IMPORTANT THING of my day and now everything afterward is just ‘gravy’. Since I have already done the most important thing of the day whatever else I do seems better somehow. I like this very much!! Are you curious what is that MOST IMPORTANT THING of my day? On my face my prayer. As you know I’ve been practicing that posture in prayer (once a day- the rest of my prayers in the course of the day are usually on the go) for a few weeks and I do believe it’s working!! And I am discovering the earlier in the day I assume the posture the better.
Okay. I’m off now for awhile. I’ll catch you up later.
Father, You are AWESOME. I love You and thank You so much for today!!
I’m baack! Trying to get a few words on the screen before supper preparations – supper can be a little late this evening as my beloved is cutting the grass. Enough of that.
We were talking about the MOST IMPORTANT THING of the day – prayer. And for me it seems the most faith building posture is prostrate. There was a time I walked as I prayed. My Girls teased me that I was wearing a path around the couch. The walking prayer back then was to keep me from falling asleep. Believe it or not I keep better hours now – still not as well as I should, but better. My point is the posture of prayer is not so much about what we do with these human frames of ours but rather the attitude of our spirit. And for this season of life, I am real delighted with carpet fiber each morning.
And now I am reminded of Daniel. I believe prayer was his most important thing to do too and obviously even more for Daniel than for me. Daniel prayed three times a day on his knees before an open window, facing Jerusalem. He was neither ashamed or full of fear even when the King decreed execution for praying to Yahweh. Still, Daniel prayed. You can read the full story at Daniel 6. 10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.
I am not advocating kneeling three times a day in ritual; I’m not promoting ritual at all and neither is Daniel. I think Daniel had a sense of satisfaction, contentment and just plain feeling good about his prayer posture. And that’s what I want for you. Whatever works for you, whatever gives you that sense that Father is pleased and you are pleased — be it prostrate, on your knees, walking, driving, kneeling — whatever it takes for you to KNOW you have connected with Father in the MOST IMPORTANT THING of the day – just do it!
James 5: 16, you have read it, heard it, even quoted it many times; today embrace it as your own personal promise from Father: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman added by me for emphasis) availeth much.
Amen and amen! What a Savior!
Father, this has been a sweet day and as we are closing it and looking for the morrow, I pray for our IDOKs that when they awaken in the morning, that they will meet with You and experience fresh and new Your Holy and Awesome Presence as much as we can in these frail bodies. I pray that each of us will be faithful to converse with You. Thank You for deeper insights. Thank You that our prayers avail much because we have been made righteous by You and in You Lord Jesus. We remember Richard and Emma tonight and Andrew and his family, Chris B and each other name written here and we pray for their well being and for Your Glory to be made plain in their lives and circumstances. Remember our IDOK Troops today; protect them from all harm in mind, body and spirit; bring them home to us; put a guard on those making decisions regarding this war and Lord curtail and arrest unwise plans and lead them to decisions for a successful conclusion to this war. We pray for the repentance of the Presidential Candidates and the election of the One You have chosen for this Nation. Father, I am sorry America has strayed so far from who You birthed Her to be and I ask You to forgive us and have mercy on us. I pray Holy Spirit that You will pour out conviction, that You will convince the Peoples of America of sin, of righteousness and judgment to come. I pray for Your Church Lord that You will not let up on us and that we will yet be holy in practice, that we will be people who love You so much that nothing less than obedience will satisfy us. And again I pray especially for each and every IDOK that we will fall ‘head over heels’ in love with You, that we will abandon ourselves to Your Will. Amen and amen.
