STOP!

OFF buttons.
Yes. I am thankful for OFF buttons.

24/7 media outlets spin and stream BUT the OFF button silences them all when we use it.

And then I thought how many other things in my life have OFF buttons?
With Holy Spirit’s help, even our minds have switches we can flip – much akin to an OFF button.
I say that because I think my mind never truly shuts off :) but I can redirect it into a more wholesome direction.
So can you.

So, when an avenue of thought begins to stream and the Holy One alerts us; yes, we can flip the switch. We can say STOP to that train.
And it’s been my experience (with practice) that train stops and a new rail of thought will open.
Yes. I am grateful. Very grateful for this holy gift of STOP.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things. source

But let’s be real, let’s be honest here. Verse 8 is not easy to do just off the cuff without practice.
However, we are not left without Help and Instruction. Check out HERE verses 4-7.
These verses believed and obeyed will give us real help living verse 8; real help saying STOP to those unruly and not so nice thought trains all too ready to run on our mind rails.

The Staff of Life

Wheat Berries,  A Grain Mill Attachment, and Freshly Baked Bread – for these I am giving thanks.
Freshly milled flour, yeast, some honey, a little salt, warm water, and soon the fragrance of bread fills the kitchen and perhaps the den too. :)

Bread, the staff of life.
Bread.
Truly. There’s just something lovely about it.

I remember thinking some long uncertain time ago that somehow I am not surprised that BREAD has gotten a bad rap.  And why not? With every morsel of bread, we eat we should be reminded of Our Savior, The Bread of Life. No wonder bread is slandered.
It’s been called fattening, and other unfavorable names.  Decades ago when the berries were modified and the fields were sprayed with pesticides and plowed with chemical fertilizers – well, I must agree adulterated bread is deadly.

BUT for me with organic, unmodified wheat berries milled fresh, that bread nourishes the body, brightens the soul, and reminds the spirit of
The Bread of Life.
Yes. For this I am thankful.

O taste and see that The LORD is good. See Psalm 34:8

Not Just a Writing Prompt

Windows and sunshine.

I’m not kidding.
This very sight is one of the things for which I give thanks – often.
Not just today as a writing prompt. Even though it is.

How lavishly fortunate we are to have a place, a roof over our heads with walls and windows in all our rooms to let in that glorious light from the sun that warms and comforts us, that helps grow our foods, that gives us much needed Vitamin D to ward off diseases.

Today, we live in a place of extravagance, and yet with all our extravagance without sun, moon, air, and water – we soon would not be at all.

Could we today give thanks for the common things; things that we have closed our eyes to; things that we only miss when they are gone?

So. For what are YOU giving thanks today?

Just in case you are interested 48 times in the KJV we find give thanks referenced.
Here are a few and a link for the rest.
