Anybody?

There was a song sang recently. A popular song. A good song. Yet, when I heard it, when I read the lyrics, that analytical me, even critical me kicked in.

Lyrics:

Our Father everlasting
The all creating One
God Almighty

Through Your Holy Spirit
Conceiving Christ the Son
Jesus our Savior

I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus

Our Judge and our Defender
Suffered and crucified
Forgiveness is in You

Descended into darkness
You rose in glorious life
Forever seated high

I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus

I believe in You
I believe You rose again
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord

I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus

For I believe in the name of Jesus
For I believe in the name of Jesus

I believe in life eternal
I believe in the virgin birth
I believe in the saints’ communion
And in Your holy Church
I believe in the resurrection
When Jesus comes again
For I believe, in the name of Jesus

I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus

For I believe in the name of Jesus
Lyrics taken from Here.

It’s a great song, isn’t it?  Here’s my critique. It takes more than believing all this for one to actually be assured of Eternal Life. Seriously.  It does. For you see Satan and all his demons believe all this.  They know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is all true. They witnessed it and they are still bound for hell. See James 2, specifically 19 – 26.

It takes more than knowledge. It takes more than acquiesce.  If you have questions or would like more information, I invite you to write a comment or contact me via email.

We got to do better than the devil if we are going to get to Heaven.

Good Question, John!

Reading Luke 3

Verse 7!
Good question, John!

Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

I think multiple people warned me before I heeded and fled the wrath that was coming.

Have you been warned? Who warned you?
Have you warned anyone?

How would you answer those questions? Can you answer them with certainty?

Reading more. Tax collectors heeded. Soldiers heeded.

More questions.
Fire.
Threshing floors.
Inextinguishable fire.

And then we read: John proclaimed Good News to the people

Amongst all this fire and wrath and judgment? Good News?

Yes! Exceeding Good News!

JESUS has come! His lineage, straight from GOD! And since He is the question is still good!

Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

If that someone is still walking earth’s sod, check in with them, send them a note, or call them with a word of thank you for sharing JESUS with you.

A Little Variety (to sing about)

Listening to some music this morning; a wide range like Higher by Unspoken God’s Not Dead by the Newsboys and It Will Be Worth It All sung by Charles Billingsley and his mother.

Read over these words; especially the chorus:  (do you remember singing it?)

It Will Be Worth It All
1. Sometimes the day seems long,
Our trials hard to bear.
We´re tempted to complain,
to murmur and despair.
But Christ will soon appear
to catch his bride away!
All tears forever over
in God’s eternal day!

CHORUS:
It will be worth it all
when we see Jesus!
Life’s trials will seem so small
when we see Christ.
One glimpse of his dear face,
all sorrow will erase.
So, bravely run the race
till we see Christ.

2. At times the sky seems dark,
with not a ray of light;
We’re tossed and driven on,
no human help in sight.
But there is One in heaven,
Who knows our deepest care;
Let Jesus solve your problems,
just go to him in prayer.

3. Life’s day will soon be o’re,
all storms forever past;
We’ll cross the great divide
to Glory, safe at last!
We’ll share the joys of heaven:
a harp, a home, a crown;
The tempter will be banished,
We’ll lay our burdens down.

And the others I mentioned? Take a listen.
