Words can hurt you and the right words can help heal you. Those words that crush and hurt you are known as toxic words. Toxic words are incredibly dangerous not only when they are spoken to you, but when you speak them to others. This week you will read from God’s Word about the dangers of toxic words and the power of life-giving words.

How are toxic words infecting your life right now?

Do you remember that childhood saying: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.”

How many of us have personal experience with that lie?!

How many of us know in a moment we can slash others with emotional wounds that take a lifetime to heal?

How many of us think phrases (and even say them aloud) to ourselves if others said the same words to us we would be crushed?

How many of us know our words matter? Those we say to others and to ourselves?

How many of us are willing to allow the HOLY SPIRIT to teach us a better way of speaking and thinking?

8 Idle talk can pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise can heal.

So what is the HOLY SPIRIT saying to you about your words? What is He saying to me? Are my words: Sticks, stones or healing balm? That’s a good question. And I know the answer. A mixture of all three.  My quest for today is to heavy that mixture on the healing balm side. You too?  :)

Day 7

Soul Detox

Colossians 3 encourages us to set our minds on God and not on earthly things, which cause our toxic thoughts. One of the best ways to start focusing your thoughts on God is to spend more time with Him each day in prayer and in the reading of His Word.

What are some specific toxic thoughts you need to change? What are some ways you can begin to make that change?

Our suggested reading for today is Colossians 3:1-17. Click HERE to read.

15 and let the shalom which comes from the Messiah be your heart’s decision-maker, for this is why you were called to be part of a single Body.

And be thankful —

via Col. 3:1-17 CJB – So if you were raised along with the – Bible Gateway.

Shalom (peace). Thankful.  Our decision-makers. These two will PREACH!

With these two, we can decide – does this thought go or does it stay?

Can I give thanks thinking this?

Do I have peace, is my soul at rest, thinking this?

No?

Then cast it out in JESUS name AND replace it with HIS Word.

Fixing

Day 6

Soul Detox

Hebrews 3 encourages us to fix our thoughts on Jesus; however, that can be difficult with so many toxic things trying to capture our thoughts away from Him. Our thoughts are so easily influenced by such toxic things as influences, relationships, and words. Strive to block out and remove all of the toxic things polluting your life and instead fix your thoughts on Jesus. Fixing your thoughts on Him is critical in filtering out all of the toxins in your life.

How different is your life when you focus your thoughts on what is true and good rather than on toxic things?

13 Instead, keep exhorting each other every day, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you will become hardened by the deceit of sin.

So how is your day-to-day different for you when you focus on JESUS instead of toxic thinking? And does this verse say to us if we keep on with our toxic thinking that our hearts will become hardened?
