Common Types

Day 31 of 35 – Soul Detox

1 John 3:1-24

Devotional

There are three common types of toxic relationships: negative, controlling, and the tempters. Chances are you have experienced all three of these toxic relationships in your life. Chances are that you have been toxic to someone else in one of these three ways. Do as God’s Word says and don’t let yourself be deceived and led astray by toxic relationships. More importantly, don’t be toxic to others because you will lead them astray.
What types of toxic relationships do you currently have more of in your life?

The truth hurts!

For sure on the negative here; confessing there are some negative toxic relationships in my world; have to give the controlling and the tempters some thought. And oh my goodness! I don’t want to be ANY of these to any one else! I am grateful for this Soul Detox session!

And now to the TEXT.

I have asked myself and now I have to ask you. Seriously! What will you do with these verses?

3 And everyone who has this hope in him continues purifying himself, since God is pure.
4 Everyone who keeps sinning is violating Torah — indeed, sin is violation of Torah.
5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and that there is no sin in him.
6 So no one who remains united with him continues sinning; everyone who does continue sinning has neither seen him nor known him.

And this one. How do we reconcile what we see in people and what we read here? And the  politically correct phrase thrown around: ‘don’t judge me’ – how can we not see what is clearly before us? And how is that we are accused of judging when ABBA has clearly given the judgment right here in these passages?

10 Here is how one can distinguish clearly between God’s children and those of the Adversary: everyone who does not continue doing what is right is not from God. Likewise, anyone who fails to keep loving his brother is not from God.

This is strong and sobering! If it does not make a difference in us, we have surely disbelieved it.

Dialogues and Monologues

Day 30 of 35  — Soul Detox

2 Timothy 2:14-26

Devotional

The right people will build you up and lead you towards Christ, but if you are around the wrong people they can be very toxic. They can hurt your soul. They can hurt your relationships. They can lead you into temptation. They can drag you down. They can very easily take you away from God’s best.
In what ways have toxic relationships polluted your life and your relationship with God?

Did you read the Text?

Did it smart?

14 Keep reminding people of this, and charge them solemnly before the Lord not to engage in word-battles. They accomplish nothing useful and are a catastrophe for the hearers!

via 2 Timothy 2:14-26 CJB;NIV – Keep reminding people of this, and – Bible Gateway.

19 Nevertheless, God’s firm foundation stands, stamped with these words:
“The Lord knows his own,”
and,
“Let everyone who claims he belongs to the Lord
stand apart from wrongdoing.”

via 2 Timothy 2:14-26 CJB;NIV – Keep reminding people of this, and – Bible Gateway.

And finally; how blunt can GOD be?!

23 But stay away from stupid and ignorant controversies — you know that they lead to fights,

via 2 Timothy 2:14-26 CJB;NIV – Keep reminding people of this, and – Bible Gateway.

Been talking stupid and ignorant controversies?

I am convinced these could be dialogue or monologue prison pits. Either way we are to AVOID them like the plague. Takes practice, doesn’t it? :)

Sophos

Day 11 – Soul Detox

James 3:1-18

Devotional

Don’t internalize the toxic words that others speak about you. Instead, guard your heart against toxic words, and every chance you get, speak life-giving words.

Why do you think we tend to speak more toxic words than life-giving words even when we don’t intend to?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

I have read these verses not less than three times and to pick out one verse or even two verses to highlight here with you — well, so far, NOT. You just need to read the whole of it and allow the HOLY SPIRIT to speak.

I can say this much, the wisdom from above that is spoken of in verse 17; the Greek Lexicon (online) let me know this wisdom is most needed and much lacking. It is described this way:

forming the best plans and using the best means for their execution

via Sophos – New Testament Greek Lexicon – King James Version.

But it does not stop there. For you see forming best plans and best means of execution would be perverted UNLESS said wisdom comes from above and that wisdom; the wisdom coming from GOD is first pure; not gunked up with self-serving self. And it is

then peaceful, kind, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

via James 3:1-18 CJB – Not many of you should become teachers, – Bible Gateway.

Are you challenged to think with Wisdom? Godly wisdom? Is this appealing to somebody today?

A surpassing Thursday, my Friends!
