Twenty of Twenty Five – A Great Recipe:
20- However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
About a year or so ago, I think, I was sitting in the parking lot of a local store applying GermX to my hands before diving into a small bag of chips and you may recall that an IDOK came from that incident.
I think another IDOK is forming from another hand cleaning experience.
Recently I was attending a meeting and perchance one sitting close by retrieved a bottle of GermX from her purse and refreshed her hands. It was such a pleasant fragrance, a clean smell. And I thought of my own hands; they needed cleaning too. As the meeting continued, I continued to listen but the urge to clean my hands was dominating my thoughts. Even though I was listening and participating in the discussion – I wanted to clean my hands! It was like I just could not wait for a break in the flow of conversation so I could get up, get my own bottle of GermX and clean my hands. If my vocabulary were not so feeble I could convey to you the urgency I felt. It wasn’t that I could not function in the meeting, it wasn’t that I ignored the discussion; it’s just that getting my hands clean was just ‘so there’ in my thoughts.
No, this is not a lesson on the power of suggestion, although certainly it can be applied. It is a spiritual application that I hope to communicate to you here.
As I have continued to think about the occurrence, I really want the Holy Spirit to grow in me that kind of longing, that kind of ‘desperation’ for Jesus. It was so clear to me that day (and still is today) if I were as ‘set on’ Jesus, pleasing Him and knowing Him and obeying Him and hearing from Him as I was to get my hands cleaned, there’s no telling how satisfying and exciting and edifying and helpful to others my life would be!! Sitting there smelling that clean, lingering fragrance and seeing myself almost like a third party observer would, I am now treasuring the incident and praying for that kind of ‘gotta have it’ to be re-created in me again and again; but this time for Jesus, not a hand sanitizer. But come to think of it Jesus is the best ‘hand sanitizer’, isn’t He? And not just our hands but our minds, hearts, our whole being, isn’t He? Can you relate or have I just been smelling GermX too long? James 4:
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
2 Samuel 22:
21 “The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the cleanness of my hands
He has recompensed me.
22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
Psalm 24:
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive blessing from the LORD,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Job 17: (NCV)
9 But those who do right will continue to do right,
And those whose hands are not dirty with sin will grow stronger. Please note we are adding Joan to our list today. Joan has been battling cancer for 2 years; her pain at this time is beyond description. Pray for her.
An update on Joshua – he too is battling for his life; his family says: PLEASE keep praying w/us, no matter where you are. It doesn’t look good for him, but I know that God can & does work miracles. Joshua really needs one right now. ABBA, I don’t know what all You want to do with this devotion. You know it has come to mind often since it happened. I really think it applies. I think if I had such an urgency as that, such an ‘I want this’ drive in me for You, You could do so much more through me. Is this the answer to building a ‘fire’ in me; building a fire in Your Church? If so, confirm it; not just to me but to our IDOKs; to Your Body. And Holy Spirit – do this in us. We cannot do it ourselves. We cannot change us, only You can do this for us.
And do this too, Lord, comfort Joan and alleviate her pain; reveal Yourself to her just like she needs You to and Joshua too and his family. They are hurting. And they are not the only ones on our list who are hurting and seeking and wanting to be well and whole again. In one way or another we all are.
Thank You for clean hands; help us submit to more and more washings. Comfort and care for our IDOK Troops today – keep their hands clean in this war; direct their steps; guard their minds, bodies and spirits and as soon as possible bring them home.
And Lord, for Your own glory and for the good of the world, expose the dirty hands in this Country and bring them to repentance if at all possible. I don’t know the outcome of this November election; I am glad You do and I am glad You will still be my DADDY GOD however it shakes out. I pray enough folks will heed what You have said in Your Word and will vote that way, if they do McCain and Palin will win this thing. And if not, I know You will be with us. I know You are not worried and with Your help we will not either. Thank You for Israel; thank You for the Peace You have planned for them. It excites me that one day it will be so. Thank You for the reminder You gave me yesterday of the 144,000 of them that will one day preach Your Gospel. I love that ABBA. Nineteenth of Twenty Five – A Great Recipe: 19- God heals everything-but you have to ask Him.
Oh, what a difference a new pair of lens makes!! Four months ago I gave up my hard contact lens for soft ones; the kind you wear for a month and then discard the old ones for a fresh pair. And this morning is fresh pair morning. I LOVE fresh pair mornings!! Everything looks better through a fresh pair of lens. And this morning we have all awakened with a ‘fresh pair’ – but we do have to accept them and put them on. Father’s mercies to us this morning are brand new and the canvas on which we paint today is a new one. Choose today’s new canvas; put away yesterday’s and begin NEW today. Paint well today on your new canvas with your ‘fresh pair’!! Lamentations 3: 22 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 “ The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “ Therefore I hope in Him!” Colossians 4: 4 that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Yes, ABBA, I pray my brothers and sisters will pray for me that I may know what I ought to speak at any given time today and I pray that for them too; that we all will redeem the time today for Jesus sake. Thank You for the new canvas on which we are to paint today and thank You that a fresh look is available to us today; help us receive it with joy and wear it well today. Many things are on our minds. We have family and friends with deep and varied troubles and we pray for them, for recovery and restoration. We pray for our IDOK Troops, for their protection of mind, body and spirit. We pray for proficiency in the jobs they do today; we pray they will depend upon You to govern and guide each step they take. And Father as odd as it may seem I pray for laughter for them today; that laughter may do them good as a medicine. May it be Lord that every IDOK will have at least a moment of laughter – even in grief and sickness, make it be that they receive from You a moment of laughter. Enlighten us today Lord; forgive America, give us grace and space to repent. We continue to pray for the election so close at hand now. Whatever happens Lord we KNOW You are in control and You know my prayer and the prayer of many others, please don’t give us what has been earned, give us mercy. I pray too for Israel, that America will continue to be their ally. I am so looking forward to the day they come to the Peace You have for them. Bless Your Name, Lord! Blessed be Your Name. Eighteen of Twenty Five – A Great Recipe: 18- What other people think of you is none of your business.
Do you ‘love’ number 18 or what? What other people think of me is none of my business! Why is that do you think? James 1: 19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Slow to speak; slow to get your feathers ruffled – an oh so beneficial command! Too bad I do not obey it more often. Case in point: My computer home page is powered by Google. Several months ago I worked with themes, colors, gadgets, bookmarks, etc.and arrived at a final layout that pleased me. I liked just the way it was; did not want it changed. It was comforting to me to open it each day and have my favorite Blogs a click away, WPA’s email account easily accessible for review, my To Do List front and center, birthday reminders to the left, my calendar to the right, word for the day and vegetable of the week lower left and lower center, respectfully. But today, I noticed certain gadgets were not loading properly, either painfully slow or not at all. And, of course, I did not appreciate that. And then near the close of the ‘business’ day I had an all new home page that I did not order!! The Blogs were still there, as was the email, the To Do List, the birthday reminders, all of it BUT it looked different, weird to me, too many words (Can you imagine that? Me thinking there were too many words!!). And so I began to complain, rather harshly, aloud. James 1: 19 and 20 was stored away on the shelf of my mental library — wish I had been quicker to pull it off the shelf and HEED it! Maybe next time — my new Google home page will be a daily reminder with its new and improved gadgets that actually work better and are even more accessible and useful than before. A slice of Humble Pie is not easy to dish up but it really is nutritious. I just hope I don’t ‘earn’ many more slices of it. And I figure if I will just learn to keep my mouth shut just a little bit longer, I can have CHOCOLATE instead! Tis so ‘sweet’ to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word. Seventeen of Twenty Five – A Great Recipe: 17- Forgive everyone for everything.
A quote for today comes from Francois Fenelon ( 1651-1715) Uneasiness about the future is unwholesome for you. We must leave to God all that depends on Him, and think only of being faithful in all that depends upon ourselves. Isaiah 56 1THUS SAYS the Lord: Keep justice, do and use righteousness (conformity to the will of God which brings salvation), for My salvation is soon to come and My righteousness (My rightness and justice) to be revealed. I see this verse as looking forward to the coming of Jesus to planet earth as the GodMan to perfect the plan of Salvation for man. And so today’s verses for us are instructions as to our conduct IN Jesus. Inasmuch as those of us who have said Yes to Him, Our Salvation has come (albeit our Salvation is yet to be fully completed when we see HIM face to face); but for now it is our job to conduct ourselves in justice and righteousness; to conform to the will of Our Father God who has saved us. And The Word promises that we who do this shall be: 2Blessed, happy, and fortunate is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold of it and binds himself fast to it, who keeps sacred the Sabbath so as not to profane it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil. And when I read Sabbath here I think not of keeping The Law as in Old Testament times but as keeping sacred and holding fast to the “REST “of God. That is what our salvation is — we have entered into the REST of God. We have ceased to labor to obtain salvation, we have ceased striving to be good enough to earn Heaven and Eternal Life and we have come to REST in the Finished Work of Jesus — His Salvation for us and to us. So let us not profane this Sabbath by continuing to willfully practice evil, let us keep justice and do righteously, let us conform to the will of God …. That is our job and He will do all else. That is He will do “All that depends on Him”. 3Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say, The Lord will surely separate me from His people. And let not the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. Just because we are not Israel does not mean we are not His Covenant People … In Jesus we are. We have a SURE Covenant with Him. 4For thus says the Lord: To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths and choose the things which please Me and hold firmly My covenant– And the eunuch — those of us who heretofore were unproductive; now, in Jesus we can become a legacy. Don’t you love that?! Just look at this next verse, those of us who had no legacy have now been given Precious Promises of an Eternal Home. And moreover we can become such people as to leave a legacy here for others to follow when we leave this planet for our Eternal Home. Wow! Father is so good to us! 5To them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial and a name better [and more enduring] than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off. 6Also the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord to minister to Him and to love the name of the Lord and to be His servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath so as not to profane it and who holds fast My covenant [by conscientious obedience]– 7All these I will bring to My holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples. Any way you look at it, no matter who we are, from whatever background or origin we come, when we come to Jesus and entered into His Salvation, His Sabbath (REST) we have a Holy Covenant with Father God. We must not profane it. And as we PRAY and do what is for us to do and leave to Him what is His to do we see this in Isaiah 54 is true for us. 17But no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall show to be in the wrong. This [peace, righteousness, security, triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the Lord [those in whom the ideal Servant of the Lord is reproduced]; this is the righteousness or the vindication which they obtain from Me [this is that which I impart to them as their justification], says the Lord. Father, thank You; thank You that no weapon formed against us shall prosper… It will not do what it is intended to do by the one who launched it but it will be turned by You and will accomplish what You intend for us as we walk in obedience to You. Thank You Father. Thank You for loving us and for the plans and the future You have for us.
