Observations in Nehemiah

IDOK DEVOTION FOR WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26, 2009

For today, let me share with you just some observations from my reading in Nehemiah, beginning in chapter 1 and through 3.

Verse 4So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

The Book of Nehemiah is the account of God’s Servant hearing of the plight of Israel and the condition of the walls of the City of Jerusalem. And Nehemiah had such great love for his people and the City that when he saw, he sat down, wept and mourned and fasted and prayed. What would happen if we the Body of Christ, we IDOKs, were so moved to weep, mourn, fast and pray for people, for this Nation? Is not America in a similar state of ruin as was Jerusalem at the time of this writing? What about lost people, who by their own admission are going to hell, what if we wept, mourned, fasted and prayed for them? What would happen?

ABBA, I pray the day will come when You have so moved me and changed me that I will weep and mourn and fast and pray for people, especially lost people who by their own admission are going to hell.

Verse 12 Nehemiah prayed for God to give him favor with the King. O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” For I was the king’s cupbearer. We can ask God to give us favor when we are petitioning a man (or woman), a figure in an office, a judge, etc. When we have an interview, a court hearing, a meeting, you name it, we can ask that we be looked upon with favor, that we be treated with kindness; that we be granted what we are asking without a hassle. We can ask! Now God is not OBLIGATED to grant it, but we can ask and He just might. By the way, He did for Nehemiah and the king was oh so gracious to him!

Nehemiah 2

Verse 18 the key to getting a good work done. So they said, “Let us rise up and build” Then they set their hands to this good work. I can talk all day but until I actually set my hands to doing it, it is just a good idea and not a good work.

In verse 20 we are told God will prosper us BUT there is a condition. …”The God of heaven Himself will prosper us; therefore, we His servants will arise and build,… . God does the prospering but I have to get up and build.

Nehemiah 3.

In verse 8 we are told some of the workers were perfumers by trade, but they did repairs on the wall — they got out of their comfort zones. Ouch!

And verse 12. I LOVE this! And next to him was Shallum the son of Hallohesh, leader of half the district of Jerusalem; he and his daughters made repairs. Did you see that? He and HIS DAUGHTERS made repairs. This guy is a ‘big shot’, he is a leader of half the district of Jerusalem, but he is out there doing manual labor. And who is out there right along side him? His daughters. That is so cool. And what is even cooler is that the Holy Spirit recorded it for us. And He recorded it for our learning and edification. As I said I LOVE it!

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

I have a very dear friend from work who is in much need of our prayer her husband Johnny Mckinnell has cancer he has been fighting it for about 8 months over the weekend he found out the cancer has spread to his brain he is set to have brain surgery in the morning we need to pray for Mr. Johnny to do well during this surgery and for a quick recovery as well as for his wife Ms Paula to just have strength to deal with this and for their whole family to just be lifted up and be encouraged.. Thanks, love ya – windy

ABBA, I admit it I am aware of the clock ticking and chores waiting, but this has been so good. Thank You. And I pray You will use it to bless our IDOKs; that You will grow them and grow me into women and men who reverence You and take our callings from You as seriously as did Nehemiah. You know how much work You will have to do with me, help me learn; I started to say fast but I think I’ll ask instead for steady. And now as I and our IDOKs, when they get to this point of reading, I pray we will get up and build; but before we do help us worship and weep and mourn if that is what You call us to do. We do not want to weep and mourn and fast for weeping and mourning and fasting’s sake; make us real, Lord. Just make us real. And, ABBA, take note today of these listed here, love on them and help them sense it, not just know in their heads but FEEL it all over that they are being loved on by You today; these who are sick or troubled and our IDOK Troops too. And bring them home safe and sound too we pray. And raise up, call, and move an army of Saints to weep and mourn, fast and pray for the people of America and the world. And, raise us up to bless the children; to feed them, to clothe them and to preach the Gospel to them for Jesus sake. Amen and amen. A SPECIFIC UNSPOKEN. Not Today

IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 25, 2009

Part of my prayer journaling today was out of desperation and in that I wrote: I am sorely tempted and struggling to keep from getting bent out of shape right now.

And with that I was reminded of what is my shape to be. Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Jesus shaped. Yep, that’s supposed to be my shape. Isn’t it a great thing that we are predestined (and that means ‘certain to occur’ – oh I like that!) to be conformed to the image of Christ Jesus? Otherwise, I’d get real depressed about it at times. Like I haven’t many times! But not today!! Today, I’m certain it shall occur and until then I know I will have times of getting ‘bent out of shape’, but not today. Hey, I like that: Not Today! String enough of those ‘not today’s’ together and we will be well on our way to whatever He is making of us, individually, and collectively, as the Body of Christ. So our word for today is Not Today, not today will I get bent out of shape; not today will I ______________. You fill in your blank with that one thing that seems to grab you and shake you often; fill in the blank and say, Not Today! In Jesus Name, in Jesus Strength and Victory – NOT TODAY!

Hebrews 12 (New King James Version)

1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. 4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin.

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

ABBA, Not Today; and thank You so much since praying and writing the struggle in this moment is passed. Thank You!! And I pray that when this devotion arrives at the screens of our beloved IDOKs they will fill in their respective blanks and they will in Jesus Name and Strength and Power and Authority say Not Today to that sin that easily ensnares. It’s a good word, now my prayer is to practice it and yes, I know to practice it means I must have opportunity so when the Evil One and my own putrid flesh gives me opportunities to practice I pray I will, that all our IDOKs will. I am continuing to pray for our IDOK having surgery that she is resting well and recovering better than expected. I pray for others, for Tamra and her sons, that peace and surrender will come and You will be gloried and they will live daily in the Blessing of Asher. The Blessing of Asher, we all need that; so I am praying for the Blessing of Asher upon my beloved and me, our children and grandchildren and every one of our IDOKs and our IDOK Troops too and every person listed here. Get Up and Build

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2009

For today, I want to go back and pick up where we left off with last Thursday’s devotion (that was little g gods). And we ended that one with Deuteronomy 4: 29 But if from there you will seek (inquire for and require as necessity) the Lord your God, you will find Him if you (truly) seek Him with all your heart [and mind] and soul and life.

I Chronicles 22 also speaks of seeking God with all our hearts.

I Chronicles 22:18 Is not the Lord your God with you? And has He not given you peace on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the Lord and His people. 19. Now set your mind and heart to seek (inquire of and require as your vital necessity) the Lord your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God may be brought into the house built to the Name and renown of the Lord.

I have been saved; I have become a sanctuary of the Lord for a reason, and this reason: to the Name and renown of the Lord. My purpose here is to make known the Name and ‘renown’ (The quality of being widely honored and acclaimed) of the Lord. That’s it! That is my purpose on planet earth, to make Him known and if I am not doing that, I am in rebellion. It is a simple as that.

Lets examine verse 18 more closely. Is not the Lord my God with me? YES, without a doubt He is! And has He not given me peace on every side? Yes, He has. On every side wherever I turn there He is. There is no place I can go that He will not be there. Now since this is so, His command to me and to you is this: SET YOUR MIND and HEART to SEEK HIM. Can you hear Him saying, ‘get up and build; stop this tearing down that you are doing with your laziness and dissatisfaction and complaints about yourself. Get up and build up the sanctuary you already are. Get up and build; remember you are in covenant with Me! You perform your part and I will perform My Part. I won’t do your part and you can’t do Mine. I am waiting on You to seek Me so you can find Me to be your everything.’

Get Up and Build. Catchy, isn’t it?

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

ABBA, I think this was good some days ago when it was written and it’s still good, so I pray You will minister it to Your people. And I pray we will seek You with all our hearts and minds. I have a certain IDOK on my mind tonight and that surgery she is set for in the morning. I pray that she and the surgeon will get a good and restful sleep tonight. I pray tomorrow’s surgery will be textbook perfect and her recovery will be smooth and steady and she will be able to be up and serving her family soon. Thank You for the care and protection You have given our IDOK Troops, You have been so gracious and we are grateful and we ask that each of these listed here be protected in spirit, soul and body; that they come home safe and sound at the appointed time. And I pray too for each of the others named here, sometimes, often times, I come to the names and I don’t know what to pray, I’m not You and I don’t know what is best for them or their families and so I am just praying for Your best for them, all of them; those named and those not named, those that are represented in those unspoken requests. We pray too for the peace of Israel and for America. You have been so good to this Nation. Thank You for every person in America that is real in their faith and love for You; and I pray for each of us; help us seek You with all our hearts and minds. It seems that with as many women and men and boys and girls in this country that really love You we could surely make more ‘noise’, that we could surely proclaim Your Name and Your Grace and Greatness a lot more than we do. We really do need You to stir us up, light that Holy Ghost Fire in us. Please do it Lord; we really need You to awaken us and stir our homes and lives to holiness and I pray it will be so in this home and in the homes of every IDOK. Amen and amen. A SPECIFIC UNSPOKEN. Just Being Silly Me

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, 2009

And giving you some personal thoughts: As I was washing dishes this morning, I was speaking to the Lord and I said to Him I want to long to see You but not because this world is so bad and so messed up but because You are so good.

And Bing Cherries; oh, my goodness I have a thing for them. It is only when the season is waning, though, that I get to enjoy them because I am too cheap to pay $5.00 a pound for them. BUT when I find them for $2.00 a pound, well, then I indulge myself. And so it was today as I finished off the last one, I thought, ‘Lord, I really hope these things are ‘year round’ in Heaven.’

I know, I know, there will not be seasons as we know them now in Heaven but I really hope Bing cherries will grow there and be ready to eat whenever we want them. As I said I’m being silly today, but I’m having fun and I hope you all don’t mind sharing my silliness with me.

This statement from the book The Ragamuffin Gospel (page 28) by Brennan Manning: “Never confuse your perception of yourself with the mystery that you really are accepted.”

And, of course, The ONE having done the accepting of us is God. Don’t you think the comfort of this truth is better than a goose down comforter on a cold night after a hard day’s work? Yeah, me too.

You know what I have decided? Working at home is one of the most challenging places to work.

And in further prayer conversation I sent this up today: ‘Lord, I don’t want to just KNOW Your Truth, I want to FEEL it too. I want to be passionate about it. When appropriate I want to be down right giddy about it!’ What brought on this conversation you may ask — reading little tidbits about the vastness of this universe in The Ragamuffin Gospel. But the most challenging and the most freeing (if we will do it) statement of my reading today is found on page 36 of the aforementioned book: “The greatest honor we can give Almighty God is to live gladly because of the knowledge of His love.” (Julian of Norwich).

Live gladly, not because our plans never go awry, and not because stuff never rains on our parade BUT because even when it does HE LOVES US. Let us aspire to live gladly!

Ephesians 1 (New King James Version)

6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Praise Reports and Prayer Requests

ABBA, Live gladly. Yes, I can see that would bless You. I can see that would delight You. And now when events and occurrences come that make living gladly as a foreign language to us help us remember You have accepted us in the Beloved and You love us perfectly. I pray my silliness today will bring some serious encouragement to our IDOKs. We pray again for Richard and Emma and the family as they attend to matters with Walt’s home-going; please comfort them and be glorified in them especially at this time. And the McCarver Family, especially Conner and Anna Belle, we pray for Your under-girding at this time; this did not take You by surprise and You know the plans You have for these two children, Holy Spirit, lead them even now, teach them now how to lean on You. ABBA, as I read over this list, there is some really, really tough stuff here, but You are enough, You are able and I pray each one listed here will experience You being more than enough for them today, tomorrow and forever more. Please continue to protect our IDOK Troops, bring them home safe and sound we pray. Continue to give Israel the Promises You have made to them. Please pour out mercy upon this Nation we call America, forgive us and grant grace and space to sinners and saints to repent. Supply a fresh anointing to Your missionaries around the world and one by one speak to us, Your Sons and Daughters, convince us to live gladly for Jesus sake. Amen and amen. A SPECIFIC UNSPOKEN.
