As I sit to write it is late Sunday evening, looking toward the morning to come. What will the morning light bring? And what will mid of day and evening’s last beams shine across our path?
Whatever comes this is strength:
20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; [source] Ephesians 5:20
Perhaps we should add the preceding verses for practical steps to verse 20.
15 Therefore, pay careful attention to how you conduct your life — live wisely, not unwisely. 16 Use your time well, for these are evil days. 17 So don’t be foolish, but try to understand what the will of the Lord is.
18 Don’t get drunk with wine, because it makes you lose control. Instead, keep on being filled with the Spirit — 19 sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to each other; sing to the Lord and make music in your heart to him; [source]
The giving of thanks in all things is preceded by careful attention to my conduct, your conduct, yielding to the Holy Spirit moment by moment; choosing to praise (I don’t do this well consistently yet). I am often reminded lately our praying may need to change. Often now when I hear the admonishment to ask GOD to move among us, to plead with Him to take control of our lives, to do a great work among us, I believe I hear Him saying You don’t have to convince Me to work My Little One, what is needed is for you to stop resisting ME; do what you have learned already and dig in for more, then you will see ME.
ABBA, I pray for the will to stop resisting You; the will to choose to praise You in all ways and on all days; to yield to Your Filling, to yield and obey The WORD I know and be open for more learning. Thank You for repeated opportunities, as many as we need to do this life on purpose and on course, not attending the urgent primarily day after day but rather the important, the imperative first. Help me to be yielding and planning and then planning and yielding. I get that, ABBA. Please don’t let me forget. And, ABBA, for every Reader that will say Amen, I ask this for them too, in JESUS Holy Name.
