A Paper and Ink Copy

Hello, y’all, I have a few rhetorical questions for you prompted by a disturbing realization that I am in the process of rectifying.
Last evening with lights out for the night and in the quiet before sleep I was running Scripture through the halls of my mind and I discovered that I could not quote the whole of Psalm 23. Parts were missing! I reached for my phone, selected my Bible app, and read Psalm 23 more than once.

What if you could not lay your hands on your Bible app or your leather-bound copy of Holy Writ, how many verses of Scripture could you run through your mind?
How many verses of comfort, strength, wisdom, instruction, direction, remedies for fear, and the like would you be able to lay hold to with no access to a printed Bible or a Digital One?

It’s something to ponder, isn’t it?

Let’s say you do have your leather-bound Copy but no working URL window to type in the few words you can remember of a particular verse, how long would it take you to find it in your leather-bound copy of your Bible?

1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.

A few more.
Do you have a paper and ink copy of the Bible?
What is your preferred translation?
Do you read more than one translation?
Do you have a favored translation for study and another for just pleasure reading?
Do you read Scripture just for the pleasure of it?

A Wash of Delight

I have a verse of Scripture before me this morning.

It’s 2 Timothy 3:12

Are you familiar with it?
It’s not one of those feel-good verses. It does not give us a wash of delight and we are not just thrilled to share it but today we are sharing.

The King James Version. The one used for centuries says: 2 Timothy 3:12  12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. source

Actually, I have two.

One.
ALL godly living Christians encounter persecution – actually the word is SUFFER.

It’s not fun.
It hurts.
It is suffering! Some physical. Some otherwise. But it is suffering.

Next Point.
Are we suffering?
And if we are not suffering either physically or otherwise – what does that mean?
If I am to believe the verse, and I do, it can only mean we are not living godly lives.

According to Media sources, (certain) Christians are dangerous.

2 Timothy 3:12 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. source

Shall we watch Together

I am still watching this video on my phone as I type this post, but I have seen enough that I want to share it with you. I am confident the remainder of the video will also be information we would do well to consider.

If you like,  let’s watch it together.

Give Me A Second

How long ago are 9 years and why do I ask?
Give me a second. :)

Nine years ago my grandson who is now the Father of a 3-year-old and a 5-month-old was himself a seventeen-year-old, finishing his Junior year of high school.

Wow!

Nine years ago I was prompted to write a post following a conversation about ‘don’t judge me’.
I wrote another one today prompted by a Facebook post.  (A New Story)
Obviously, we are still dancing around that mulberry bush.

Here’s the start to that May 4, 2012 post:

Matthew 7: King James Version (KJV)
7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
via Matthew 7:1-3 KJV – Judge not, that ye be not judged. For – Bible Gateway.

I participated, mostly as a reader, in a Facebook conversation today (Thursday). It is that conversation that prompts me to present this verse to you for this fine Friday morning.

For sure, for sure I smell the hot breath of hell every time today’s cultural interpretation of this verse is thrown as a trump card on the conversation table. Hear me! Such usage of this verse is nothing more than a ploy from the abyss aimed to silence those who know the truth about sin, hell, and eternal life.

Great day in the morning! as my Tennessee family has said.  READ the BIBLE! All of it! In CONTEXT! The WHOLE COUNSEL of GOD warns me that I better tell folks that JUDGMENT has come already upon them if they have NOT believed the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST.
