This

I’ve been listening and reading and a topic has been reoccurring. It has been plainly stated to me that GOD is not as interested in my doing as He is in my being.

So I asked myself today, Who do I want to be?

So far I’ve gotten one answer.  And as I have dug into that one word, I am convinced if I were to be this,  all else needed would be present in my being as well.

It’s a short word.

No. It’s not love.
To be sure if I were to be this, I would be a loving person.  I have said if people could say only one thing about me after I depart this life I wanted them to be able to say: “She loved JESUS and she loved me.” I still want that. I started praying last month that DADDY GOD will make it evident to me who it is in my life that would not be inclined to say that of me and for Him to please make the necessary changes. I thinking He is working.

No the word is not honest. Or truthful.  Or genuine. Or caring. Or compassionate. Or responsible. Or gentle.

This one word does encompass all these virtues and more. This word appears 215 times in the King James Version of the Bible; albeit, not every reference applies to this application of this word. And if you key this word into a google window, you get about this many results: 2,000,000,000.  And I have strict filters.  Naturally, all these don’t apply either.

The transliterated Greek word for this word is chrestos.

Many Biblical scholars have researched, expounded and preached about this English word for chrestos.  Our recent and present society has watered down and even distorted this word.
Today it is defined this way:  Having or showing a friendly, generous, sympathetic, or warm-hearted nature. 2. Agreeable or beneficial

What is this word I should BE?

We have an example. We have a model to follow. A perfect one. GOD.
He is always this.  My life verse says He is. I have clung to it for years.  But it is not enough for me to cling to it so I can survive this mean world but it is for me to submit to Him so He can be THIS through me in this very mean world.

Taken together chrestos, Psalm 145:17,  and Romans 2:4, (actually the Whole of Scripture) and we get a better understanding of THIS I want to BE.

You see EVERY action, EVERY word, EVERY thought that GOD has is FIT, USEFUL, PURPOSED, DESIGNED to bring us to repentance, to bring us to HIMSELF.

. . . and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. source  Luke 6

Psalm 145:17-18  (NASB) 17 The Lord is righteous in all His ways And kind in all His deeds.   source

Romans 2:4  (NASB) Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?  source

I NEED to BE this.  I WANT to BE this.  I want to be a woman who purposes, thinks about, speaks to, responds to (and on behalf of) people in such a way as to encourage, lead, help, and in all my doings point them to JESUS.  For then I will be truly KIND.

Individually and Collectively

This verse got me to thinking about peace among Peoples.

22 Run away from adolescent cravings. Instead, pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace together with those who confess the Lord with a clean heart. 23 Avoid foolish and thoughtless discussions, since you know that they produce conflicts. source   2 Timothy 2 CEB

In part I gather from this that peace must be pursued individually to be achieved collectively.  And I am confident eternal peace is on the horizon, individually and collectively for those who have with a clean heart pursued the Prince of peace.

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.     source

The world has many ills, many hurts, many sins; this I know, to continue to resist the Prince of Peace individually or collectively is the dominate impediment to peace on earth and good will to one another.

Road to Health

This week I heard an exceedingly good sermon. It’s title is Don’t Waste Your Health by Louie Giglio.

And just now I read

Proverbs 14:30 (NLT)  30 A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body;  jealousy is like cancer in the bones.  source

This causes me to think that keeping my heart at peace with GOD is an essential component on this road to wasting not my health.

To all who are willing please click the Don’t Waste Your Health link above, watch and dialogue with me later, either by contact page or comment on this page if the comment is not too personal for public consumption.

Nary a Hiccup

Glorify.

John 17 (TLV) 1Yeshua spoke these things; then, lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, so the Son may glorify You.  source

A simple definition: To make glorious, or cause so to appear

So as I see this JESUS was asking the Father to cause it to be so that JESUS would appear (to the world, to us) as Who He really is.
And why did He want to do that?
Could it be so He would be enabled to cause the Father to appear as He is, you think?

Now.

Does not the Word say we, you and I, are to bring glory to GOD?

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV) 31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  source

There it is in orange and white.

So everything you and I do  – e v e r y t h i n g – even our eating and drinking, day-to-day stuff we have to do to live in this world stuff, all of it we are to do in such a way that we make GOD known doing it!

Now how in the world are we going to do that?!

Perhaps we should follow JESUS example; after-all He did get the job done without nary a hiccup!

This wordier definition of glorify helps me understand. I hope it will you too.

A wordier definition: To glorify God is to extol His attributes—His holiness, faithfulness, mercy, grace, love, majesty, sovereignty, power, and omniscience, to name a few—rehearsing them over and over in our minds and telling others about the singular nature of the salvation only He offers.

This is a lot to think on and I think it will take some practice (a lot of practice) but I think I need to. tws-signature
