Nineveh

Day 27 — That God loves Jonah

Philippians 1:6 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ.
via Phil 1:6 KJ21 – being confident of this very thing that – Bible Gateway.

A little before 8:00 AM Monday, November 28, 2011, I will be in Nineveh and I will be there as Jonah was in his Nineveh. This may not sit well with all my readers but it is what it is.

My Nineveh is Federal Court Jury Selection. I am Jonah. To the degree I am Jonah I will spare you.  Albeit I have spent more than 3 days in the belly of the whale over this.

My sojourn into Nineveh – by the way I got a chuckle this morning when I realized that ancient Nineveh is in now-days Iraq – how àpropos! In ancient Nineveh there was great repentance — I don’t expect that in the Nineveh to which I am going.  However if there were I would rejoice!

I am grateful that ABBA loves this Jonah. And I am grateful for the work He has done in this Jonah – for you see I just deleted a paragraph that I personally wanted to leave in. I removed it because it would not be honoring to HIM (truthful about Nineveh but not honoring to my ABBA) so I hit the delete key — that is to HIS credit, not mine.

I am Jonah. And to Nineveh I will go. (I have already been to Tarshish.)  Don’t you pity the folks in Nineveh? :)

Papers of Humility

Day 25 — Subtitled: Repentance

I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. via 1 John 1 KJ21 – That which was from the beginning which – Bible Gateway.

A gift for which I am most thankful in the wee hours of the morning or any time it is received. It is a gift often left unopened.  Un-received.
I think I know why it takes so long to receive this gift.  It is wrapped in ‘papers’ of humility and pride has to bow to peel those wrappings back. Pride does not like to bow. Pride struggles long and hard before it utters those hated words: ‘I was wrong.  I have sinned. Please forgive me. ‘
Funny thing about it though, once they are uttered they are not so ugly anymore, they quickly turn from foul-tasting to sweet and freeing.

Repentance.
A beautiful gift and it’s not even Christmas yet. :)

Yeah, I ate too much carrot cake yesterday.  :)
Hope you all had much thanksgiving yesterday and no I’m not Black Friday-ing today. But to those of you who are — you are brave and I wish you peace and safety and gift-buying success. Perhaps you will not even need to open the gift of repentance when you get home.  :)

Grace and Mercy

Day 22 — Grace and Mercy

So grateful for grace and mercy as I am continually in need of both!

Grace.
It has been said Grace is God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense.
How true I know that is! Grace is God giving to me what I so do not deserve. Forgiveness and Fellowship with Him.

And Mercy? Well, mercy is me not getting what I do deserve.
Hell forever and ever for sure. But even since Salvation and being rescued for eternal death; to that He adds mercy every day, multiple times a day. Even when I deserve to be taken to the woodshed and have the ‘flesh’ wailed out of me, He still gives mercy. In fact the woodshed IS mercy. How horrible it would be to be left alone. To be allowed to do as my flesh would please with no correction, no wooing by the HOLY SPIRIT to turn and do right again. That can never be. To be left to my own to act any way I please without correction — I know what that would mean. So thankful I don’t have that on my head.  Read this and see what I mean:

Hebrews 12:7-9  21st Century King James Version (KJ21)
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then ye are bastards and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence. Shall we not far rather be in subjection unto the Father of Spirits, and live? via Hebrews 12:7-9 KJ21 – If ye endure chastening God dealeth – Bible Gateway.

And this:

Romans 8:  21st Century King James Version (KJ21)
8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so it be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
via Romans 8:8-10 KJ21 – So then those who are in the flesh – Bible Gateway.

Philippians 1: 6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. via Philippians 1:5-7 NASB – in view of your participation in the – Bible Gateway.

Is this your experience too? Then we both can give thanks today for God’s Grace and Mercy.

Ruthie

Day 19  — Ruthie

I had a heavy case of the warm fuzzies about Ruthie and was eager to write about her today. To sing her praises, to gush about my thankfulness for her.  You see Ruthie came quietly to us. It seems she made her presence known right around the time Jerry’s Mother, Ruth, (hence the name Ruthie) passed away. Ruthie was rib-counting thin when she rubbed her soft grey head on the legs of my jeans. Instantly I was in deep like. And the man who has professed for 65 years that he does not like cats, well …. you should see how much he does not like her. She’s not rib-counting thin any more.

So even before slipping out of bed to start my Fly Lady routine, I was thinking about how to begin Today’s Giving Thanks devotion.  It would be entitled Ruthie. I thought about how blessed we are to have her companionship. Hubby now has a cat and a Kat to walk the driveway with him in the mornings as he is leaving for work. And one of them even meets him on the drive all cuddly and purring in the evening when he comes home. (Need I tell you which one?) We marvel over how she understands ‘no’ and obeys rather than darting into the house as she so longs to do. How she stretches in the sunshine; how patting a pile of soft towels just once was enough for her to return to them each evening.

Ruthie. Sweet Ruthie. My friend, my outside trusted companion. Until — this morning.

What did I do? What did I say? How could she have hissed and slapped at me that way? She’s never done it before.  Why now?

I instantly drew back. My heart so wounded. My feelings were hurt. How can I trust you now, Ruthie?

Oh the things we learn if we are teachable.

Forgiveness.

Do you have a Ruthie who has hissed at you? Perhaps you don’t know what you said to cause her to react the way she did. Perhaps you can pray and ABBA will lead you in approaching her again.

Good companions like Ruthie don’t come along everyday.

Ephesians 4:32 New International Version (NIV)
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. via Eph 4:32 NIV – Be kind and compassionate to one – Bible Gateway.

ABBA, thank you for Ruthie. Please help me forgive her and throw not away the gift of friendship. Thank You for this day; for each precious IDOK and Reader. I ask HOLY SPIRIT that You use this post to bless and mend and love on people everywhere. Amen and amen in JESUS name.
