The Last of 2021

Two Thousand Twenty-One.
How did it go so quickly I might ask. Another might say I thought it would never be over.

Yes, we are just hours away from the chiming in of 2022. Would you be offended if I wonder why we make such a big deal of it?
Today is December 31, 2021.
At midnight it will be January 1, 2022.
Is it really more than that?

I remember the turning from December 31, 1999, to January 1, 2000 — we wondered if our banking, utilities, etc. would cease to compute and we would be in mass chaos at the stroke of midnight for the foreseeable future.
But the dawn came, the sun soon beamed and the birds sang.
I expect it will be just so come the morning.

Is the turning of a year any more than that – just another day?
Is it really more than that?
If we make it so — it is.

If we embrace the New Day of the New Year as a New Beginning, renewal is more than possible, it’s likely.
I am reminded of Scripture. That
all things are possible with GOD; that His mercies are new every morning. That applies to in the morning for all who awaken to the morning’s light.
We get to choose GOD or not.

Let us choose wisely.
The unfolding of our year, our families and our emotional well-being in large portion depends on our choices.

I borrowed this picture from a Friend’s Facebook Page and offer it here with minor edits.
It’s not profound but I liked the play-on-of-words as we
take off into this new year. :)

New Today

What will the day bring? New mercies and help.

Lamentations 3:22-23  (ESV) 22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  source

Psalm 121:1-2  (NASB) 121 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. source

Sun Rises

We are saying goodbye to 2018 in just a couple of hours. Some of us will sleep through the midnight hour; some will quietly pray it in; some will party it in.

Truth is when midnight comes and tomorrow dawns it will be just another day. There is nothing magical or particularly spiritual about the moving of the calendar from year 2018 to year 2019.

It’s just we humans are finite and we function better marking time. We feel better about ourselves when we can claim a new beginning. I’m okay with that too. I like new beginnings! A lot!  And so, I am mindful tonight that we get just that with every sun rise.

Lamentations 3: 20 I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.  21 Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: 22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. source

And a further reading:  24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”25 The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.26 So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord. 27 And it is good for people to submit at an early age to the yoke of his discipline: source

So, are you game to start with this very next sunrise, January 1, 2019?
