Not One, Not Two

Genesis 3:4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die!
via Gen 3 NASB – The Fall of Man Now the serpent was – Bible Gateway.

Do we dismiss him altogether or do we fail to allow ourselves to appropriately score the hatred of Satan? When he said to Eve You surely will not die, he knew differently. He knew he was offering her death; not only to her but the entire human race. He knew when she disobeyed God and took a bite of the forbidden fruit she would then be a rebel against God and that IS ultimately death.  He knew it! He wanted her eternally spiritually dead. He wants that for the entire human race. Is that not the epitome of hatred and evil? And yet who of us has not taken him lightly?

To some he is nothing more than a cartoon character in a red suit with a long tail and a pitch fork. He must think that so humorous and much to his advantage. I see him as having two tactics.

One, the cartoon character as described which is tantamount to non-existent.

Two, he would have us to be so preoccupied with him, seeing a demon behind every bush, that we would be immobilized with fear.

One or two, whichever we choose to believe, Satan wins. Until JESUS that is.

So what should be our position?

So, got your armor on?
Good.
Then we will not play into his hands any longer as did our sister Eve.
We will refuse to believe any more of his lies.
We will give him reason to fear us and not we him.

The Uglies

. . . you were filled with violence, and you sinned.
via Ezekial 28 HCSB – The Fall of Tyres Ruler The word of the – Bible Gateway.

Well, that got my attention at 4:30 in the morning!!

The passage is speaking of Lucifer (also known as Satan, our arch-enemy, the Evil One, the Dragon — whatever name you may have for him).  As many of you know he was once a beautiful creäture, given a place of blessed, wonderful service in the heavenlies, until he was filled with violence and he sinned.

Yesterday we spoke of PEACE. Today it’s violence.

When violence fills our soul, we sin! The pattern began with Lucifer. Sadly, all too often, we follow his pattern instead of JESUS.  I don’t like it any more than you do but I know it is true of me for sure, and I suspect for some of you as well.

Violence.

Filled with violence and you sinned.

Is violence the opposite of peace?
What was Lucifer’s violence?
What filled him so that he sinned?

Verse 15 of Ezekiel 28 says:

15 “You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until unrighteousness was found in you.
via Ezekial 28 NASB – Tyres King Overthrown The word of the – Bible Gateway.

Unrighteousness.

17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; . . .
via Ezekial 28 NASB – Tyres King Overthrown The word of the – Bible Gateway.

Pride.

Pride is unrighteousness. Pride makes us not right with God. And not right with God breeds violence. Are you with me on this?
And for those who have yet to say YES to JESUS in salvation, to varying degrees, they live in violence (that is they practice it ‘faithfully’) and they sin, happily.

But we more often than we like also fall prey to pride (violence against the Will of God).
How?
When we part from PEACE.
When we move our gaze from the Prince of Peace, we find ourselves looking at our own ‘beauty’.  And how many of you know that for a Christian our ‘natural beauty’ turns ugly real quick? And that’s good! That’s very good! That means we are IN CHRIST!!

Hebrews 12:8 King James Version (KJV)
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
via Hebrews 12:8 KJV – But if ye be without chastisement – Bible Gateway.

Those who live day after day, year after year in violence (pride and unrighteousness), never seeing that such thoughts and deeds are UGLY — well, they are following Lucifer. Take it or leave it — that’s they way it is.

How glad are you that you recognize your ‘uglies’?
Me too!!
How glad are you for the convicting and changing power of the HOLY SPIRIT?
Me too!

So! Got a case of the uglies today?
The Good News is JESUS saves!
Saved us when we said YES and He keeps on saving us until we are one day in Heaven made perfect.

Philippians 1:6 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)
6 being confident of this very thing, that He who hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ.
via Philippians 1:6 KJ21 – being confident of this very thing that – Bible Gateway.

Keep beholding HIS beauty today and you will have a glorious case of His beauty reflected all over and out from you, instead of the uglies. (me too!)
