Memory Work

Colossians 3:12 New International Version (NIV)

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Looking at some old notes I penned to myself, I settled on this Scripture for us today.  There was not a date to tell when I was saying to myself: “Saved by Jesus, therefore I am chosen and because I am chosen I have been made holy. I am dearly loved. And since I am dearly loved I can be clothed with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Perhaps when I am not so clothed I have in that moment forgotten that I am holy to Him and dearly loved. Perhaps there is a lot of forgetting in the Body of Christ these days. Perhaps some memory work is in order.

How about a little Bible Trivia that isn’t trivia? We know what kindness means, right?

What do you make of that? What does integrity have to do with kindness?  Hmmm. Any thoughts you are willing to share?

What’s Within?

Psalm 103

1. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name.

I read it and rested on — and all that is within me.

What’s in me, I asked me. The answer was not coming quickly. Other than the answer one would expect a Christian to answer – The HOLY SPIRIT.

It was my beloved who astounded me with the answer. He began with attitudes. He says we all have them within us. He so totally bowled me over with the sobering truth of what is in me. He enumerated emotions that he has seen in me. Some I’m humbled to hear he sees; some I am ashamed to admit.

Attitudes.
Like
eagerness for some things and apathy toward other things (perhaps people too, and not just things)
willingness for  and stubbornness against
love and hate
tenderness and callousness
procrastinating vs impetuous
generous and selfish

Perhaps you could name others.

Now back to  — and all that is within me.
With all that is within me, all my attitudes, wounds, hurts, strengths, weaknesses, prejudices, fears, doubts, knowledge, wisdom, experiences, victories, defeats; with all that is within me I am to bless the LORD.
Let me say it again. Let it sink in. I am to bless the LORD with all those things jumbled, tangled, running, still within me! So are you.

How can that be? How can we bless Him with bad attitudes, wounds, hurts, weaknesses, prejudices, fears, doubts, defeats?
Surrender I think.
Surrender the good. Surrender the bad to the LORDSHIP of JESUS CHRIST.

He can use it all, you know. Really.
The good, ministering to others. And the bad? Well, once we are healed, even the bad will minister in His name.
And what would bless Him more than for us to help others and be made whole ourselves?

And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

And all that is within you too, bless His holy name!

Prayer for the Christian is breathing.

So Be It

I think I am ready for 2012 to be a ‘So Be It’ year. The year that will finally be the season for me to be so transformed by the love of JESUS for Him and for others, empowered in love and by love to tell the Truth to every soul who knocks on my door with questions. To be willing to be politically incorrect for JESUS sake. To be willing to run the risk of hurt feelings in order to gain a brother or sister into surrendered fellowship with JESUS CHRIST. Truthfully, it is frightening to approach life this way. But eternity depends on it.

There are just some things in life that are what they are. God said it and that settles it. And whether you or I believe it is irrelevant to the fact that it is Truth. God does not change, nor has or will what He spoke in Eternity Past change. He has been since eternity began – doesn’t that hurt the brain??? Since eternity had no beginning, just perpetual always for always – it is what it is.  And so let me practice: if that offends you, let me say with much love . . . so be it.

Well, that was not so bad but then the questions of the 2012 election, abortion, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, immodesty, un-forgiveness, refusal to reconcile, cheating, lying, refusing truth, robbing God and man, etc., etc. have not been asked yet; have they? And when they are — Oh may I be found faithful!! I covet your prayers!

Truth here! Blogging ‘so be it’ is much easier than face-to-face ‘so be it’ — y’all know that don’t you? I surely do.

I think the crux of this ‘so be it’ is going to hinge on loving folks so much that I am willing to be uncomfortable; willing to let them hate me or at least disrespect my JESUS and me. I covet your prayers for a ‘so be it’ year.

If you’d like for me to pray for a ‘so be it’ for you, send me an email and I will covenant to pray with you.

Hebrews 13:1-3
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
The Changeless Christ

1 Let love of the brethren continue.
2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.
3 Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.
