The Standard

Day 25 of 35 — Soul Detox

1 Corinthians 6:12-14

2 Corinthians 6:17-18

Devotional

It’s very easy to get trapped by cultural toxins because it’s easy to rationalize them in our head. Most of us have probably had the following thought: what may be dangerous for you may not be dangerous for me. God’s Word says something different. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6 that just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

What standards are you using to filter out cultural toxins in your life? How well do you think your standards match God’s?

The Standard.

We do not always meet it; but we should never be found not trying.

1 Thessalonians 5:21-23 King James Version (KJV)

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

How Much?

Day 24 of 35 – Soul Detox

1 Corinthians 5:6-8

2 Corinthians 7:1

John 15:1-17

Devotional

When it comes to cultural toxins, a little bit of poison can go a long way. As a result, it’s important that we strive to cleanse those toxins from our system before they do long-lasting damage to our lives.

Name a cultural toxin that started out in your life as something small, but grew into something larger. How has that growing toxin polluted you?

Let this land squarely:

10 If you keep my commands, you will stay in my love — just as I have kept my Father’s commands and stay in his love.

Is YESHUA saying that if we do not keep His commands, He will not love us. NO! And I cannot type that loud enough! NO.

But if we do not keep His commands, WE will love Him less! And nothing in this world could be more detrimental to our well-being than us loving JESUS less than we can. Nothing will more pollute our souls than loving JESUS less than we can.

And how much can we love Him?

Clean Conscience

Day 16 of Soul Detox

Are we gaining something from Soul Detox? We are one day beyond half way finished with the study.

2 Timothy 1:1-18

Devotional

There are four types of fears: fear of loss, fear of failure, fear of rejection, and fear of the unknown. It is very likely that you are struggling with one or more of these fears. These fears can paralyze you and keep you from God’s best. Remember what 2 Timothy 1 says in that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.

Which fears do you currently struggle with the most?

Truth?

Rejection.  I think.

For sure. It’s hard to be hated.

How about you?

PMS?

Day 14 — Soul Detox

Mark 11:12-25

Devotional

Not only should we speak life-giving words to others, but we should also speak them to our circumstances and ourselves. The toxic words we speak to ourselves can be some of the most dangerous.

What types of toxic words are you saying to yourself? What steps do you need to take to stop saying these toxic words to yourself?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

I hope you will read the whole of the text linked above. I am not going to pretend with you that I perfectly understand our LORD’s actions here but of this I am certain: JESUS was not having an off day, or a bad day, or even a ‘pms’ day and thus spoke out of turn. He was not vindictive to the fig tree. He was not in a ‘rage’ when He cleansed the temple. Righteous anger? Yes. But the temple cleansing was NOT in a fit of uncontrolled rage. Our SAVIOR – GOD MAN was ALWAYS obedient to the leading of THE HOLY SPIRIT.  His EVERY deed, EVERY word ALWAYS glorified the FATHER and would edify man, if man would listen.  We will NEVER be this controlled by the HOLY SPIRIT this side of HEAVEN; but we should be willing to try.  :)

So why did He curse the fig tree? I don’t know. But He had a purpose and I suspect the Disciples sooner or later got it! I hope I do too.

Happy Sunday, my Friends! Watch your Words to others and to yourself – our words contain life and death.
