IDOK DEVOTION FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 2008
I pull out the keyboard drawer of my desk as this is where my open Bible lays, waiting for me any time I come to read it. And when I sat to read today, this is where I began – Psalm 146. Read it with me and be blessed by the Words of our Father. Listen to the heart of the Psalmist as he speaks to us.
Psalm 146
The Happiness of Those Whose Help Is the LORD
1 Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD, O my soul!
First he praises the LORD. He commands his soul to praise the LORD. I like that. I like it when my Spirit takes command over my flesh, my emotions!
2 While I live I will praise the LORD;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
He goes on to say all the days of my life I will choose to Praise the LORD. That means even when he does not FEEL like praising the LORD, he chooses to praise anyway. The Psalmist is telling us up front what are his aspirations and intentions. Then he moves to give us counsel and we would do well to heed his counsel.
3 Do not put your trust in princes,
Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth;
In that very day his plans perish.
Here he tells us no matter how charming, how charismatic, how powerful, how successful is a man; he is ONLY a man and one that is only a man is of no eternal help to us. A son of man cannot save us, cannot deliver us. A son of man will die even as we shall die and with his death all his earthly doings will cease. So if MAN cannot make us happy; cannot give us meaning and purpose, who can? And here is our answer. THE SON OF MAN.
5 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help,
Whose hope is in the LORD his God,
Look now in these following verses at the power and majesty of God; at His strength, justice, reliability, everlasting truth, power to heal and restore, love and compassion; all this, HE has and is for us. He does for us what no mere mortal man can.
6 Who made heaven and earth,
The sea, and all that is in them;
Who keeps truth forever,
7 Who executes justice for the oppressed,
Who gives food to the hungry.
The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners.
8 The LORD opens the eyes of the blind;
The LORD raises those who are bowed down;
The LORD loves the righteous.
9 The LORD watches over the strangers;
He relieves the fatherless and widow;
But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.
And how long shall He do these things? How long shall He be GOD?
10 The LORD shall reign forever—
Your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the LORD!
Forever!! Yes, let us Praise the LORD!! Let us choose like the Psalmist to praise the LORD when we feel like it and when we don’t. When the world is as it should be and when it is not. This reminds me of a song. Let me see if I can find us a YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cyqn2LxKVk
May it be that you are now smiling and rejoicing in the Love of Jesus our LORD.
Oh yes Abba, Blessed be Your Name on whatever road we walk, Blessed be Your Name! Praise You LORD! Thank You for this song. Thank You for Psalm 146. Thank You for this day. Thank You for brothers and sisters who send words of encouragement, even words carrying Your message of caution. Oh praise You ABBA You are AWESOME and I love You more every day. Thank You. Thank You. I pray now for our IDOKS that each will praise You today; that whatever road they are on today they will still praise You. We especially pray for strength and courage and hope and peace for these whose road is marked with suffering and pain and illness and disease. And we pray that their road will turn to healing. And for those whose road is marked with indecision we pray for wisdom and courage for them. For those who are heavy burdened we pray they will sense and know for certain that You are undergirding them. We pray for our IDOK Troops for their continued protection. Lord, my words cannot express how grateful I am for the safety You have given our IDOK Troops. And we continue to pray for families and friends left here missing them, please comfort them and supply their needs. Father, You know my prayer for America to repent; You know again today I am asking You for mercy and space and grace to repent. You know my love for the Nation of Israel; You know my gratitude to them for being the People through which You Lord Jesus came to me and You know I want Israel to have Peace with You, to have all the promises You have made to them to be finally fulfilled and if there is anything I can do to aid that Lord let it be. Father, my request is the same for the election; I pray for mercy for the candidates and for we as citizens of America. Thank You again for loving us and redeeming us. And Abba I am asking You to give me unshakable love for You and unshakable trust in You for Jesus sake. Amen and amen. Family from Olive Baptist. Tory. Davison and Mosley Families. Danni A. Bernie.
