IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2008

THE BETH MOORE SIMULCAST was this past weekend – 70,000 women in 716 locations and 23 denominations! I am so glad I was one of them. I am still digesting THE WORD we received. Beth ministered from a familiar passage – Luke 8 – the Parable of the Sower. As the Holy Spirit leads I will share more with you. For this morning a Word from Psalm 105:
1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
3 Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!
4 Seek the LORD and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
6 O seed of Abraham His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!
Give Thanks. Make His deeds known. Sing Psalms to Him. Talk of all His wondrous works. Glory in His Holy name. Seek His strength. Seek Him. Remember what He has done. This sounds like what a great day is made of. GO FOR IT!!

Salt

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 1, 2008

A quote to ponder: Influence, just like salt shaken out, is hard to see, but its flavor is hard to miss. Pam Farrel.
Count your blessings of the week. For me, Monday was important and long, attending a visitation and memorial service; Tuesday was another visitation; Wednesday and Thursday were play days with Logan and Emma Claire – 6 years and 17 months, respectfully, grand-babies are a rich blessing and privilege! Additionally on Thursday was an afternoon visit with a friend and an evening ministry meeting; and now that Friday is here, Beth Moore by satellite! It’s been a GOOD week. I am a blessed woman!
Enter the word ‘salt’ at BibleGateway and you get 36 references in the KJV.
A familiar passage is Mark 9:49 “For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”
A not so familiar is Leviticus 2: 13 And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt.
Let me share briefly with you my initial on-line inquiry regarding Salt Covenant.
Traditionally, salt was shared to seal a truce between former enemies or as a symbol of alliance between close friends. Treaties or friendships were often formalized by the partaking of a lick of salt to seal the deal or heal the difference between them.
Entering into a Covenant of Salt means binding oneself to another in utmost loyalty and truthfulness, even suffering death, rather than breaking the covenant. For this very reason a Covenant of Salt was never done lightly or haphazardly – it deserves serious respect. To the ancient Hebrews, salt represented purification, and was also symbolic of enduring friendship, honesty, and loyalty (2Kin.2:19 -21; 2Chr.13:5). Today some Eastern people still use the phrase: “There is salt between us.” Having no salt, meant disloyalty and barrenness.

This information comes from http://www.homeworship101.com/fyi_salt_covenant.htm I have not read the entire web page, have only made a quick perusal but what I have seen has opened doors of thought and I think it bears further examination.
Salt, a symbol of a truce between former enemies. Amazing! Grain offerings (and maybe others) were given with SALT. This is so rich. There’s no way to do it justice in the moments we have left for this IDOK. Even in these quick moments, much comes to mind.
Suffice to say for today, when you reach for the SALT; smile and praise Jesus that you have peace with God and carry that gratitude with you to others and as we do, we will experience what Jesus meant when He said have salt in yourselves and have peace with one another!
Father God this has opened up more than I can take in this morning in these moments and I have rushed to put it on the screen; forgive me. Bring us back and teach us more as You will. Thank You for the conference with Beth this weekend, even by sattelite. I am counting on You to anoint my hearing and speak to me; to all of us. I am counting on You to take care of each of these and every situation and circumstance represented here. Amen and amen. Danni A. Tye B. Joann. Sheri, Tyler, Hannah. Edie. Ann J. Bernie.
