Hung Up

I’m hung up on this one today.

16 For where there are jealousy and selfish ambition, there will be disharmony and every foul practice.

via James 3 KJV;CJB – My brethren, be not many masters, – Bible Gateway.

Disharmony and every foul practice.

When and where jealousy and selfish ambition flourish then disharmony and every foul practice will abound. The Text does not say may or might but will be.  I am thinking of families and churches. How many families or churches do you know right now that are floundering; even on the brink of disintegration?  And why is that?

Disharmony? We can readily admit that, right? Disharmony doesn’t sound so bad; just human, right? But according to our verse, what is linked with disharmony?

Every foul practice.

Let us look at two definitions of foul.

1. Offensive to the senses; revolting.  2. Having an offensive odor; smelly. 3. Rotten or putrid  via foul – definition of foul by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Transliterated Word Akathartos
Definition: not cleansed, unclean
in a ceremonial sense: that which must be abstained from according to the levitical law
in a moral sense: unclean in thought and life

via Akathartos – New Testament Greek Lexicon – King James Version.

Is GOD saying that disharmony in the family, disharmony in the church is foul to Him? Is He saying that when we participate or stand idly by while disharmony flourishes that what comes of it is unclean and unable to worship Him? Is there uncleanness in our families and churches?

So what am I going to do about it? What are YOU going to do about it?

ABBA, I know about disharmony. I’ve experienced it, I’ve practiced it. Thank You for hanging me up on this verse today. I pray to be quick to recognize jealousy and self ambition in myself and to surrender it quickly to You for cleansing. I pray this too for every willing reader who comes to this page.  I pray we will come to daily live in harmony with You and help others do the same.

Looking for harmony with GOD and others on this 42nd day of 2014,

Kathie
