Just Some Thoughts

I so wish I could think of something fun and light to write to you tonight to greet you in the morning. It’s been a serious week with weighty matters bearing on our souls. Even so we are a blessed people and this evening I am counting my many, many blessings.

The house is quiet this evening, no TV and hubby is not three feet away click, click clicking his mouse, making lines and squares – he’s drawing.  He amazes me. Perhaps he is underestimated from time to time. He has much knowledge and wisdom stored in that gray matter beneath his tousled grey hair. Does that sound like I am rather fond of him? I am.

Perhaps I will make this short tonight so I can finish God’s Guest List by Debbie Macomber. If so it would mean two books read in the month of January.  Last week I finished Forest Man by J. Steve Biggs and absolutely loved it. God’s Guest List is working me, have tons of notes with changes I am asking the HOLY SPIRIT to work in me. Forest Man was pure entertainment. It’s okay to read for pure entertainment you know — I think I should do it more often.

How about you – what are you reading?  Certainly Scripture. That is a given. No son or daughter of The KING should fail to read a portion of His love letter to us every day.  I told my Sunday School class that one verse meditated upon, prayed over and put into living was of far more value than reading two or three chapters and straightaway forget what you read.

Just some thoughts.

When we gather at our screens in the morning, know you are loved and appreciated.

Oh, Oh!!

Psalm 139 New Living Translation (NLT)

1 O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.

2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.

3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.  You know everything I do.

4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.

5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!

7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!

8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.

9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.

11 I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—

12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!

18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!  And when I wake up, you are still with me!

19 O God, if only you would destroy the wicked! Get out of my life, you murderers!

20 They blaspheme you; your enemies misuse your name.

21 O LORD, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you?  Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you?

22 Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

via Ps 139 NLT – Psalm 139 – For the choir director A – Bible Gateway.

How comfortable are you with verse 1?  He knows EVERYTHING about you?

Verily verily (don’t you like that? Reminds me of JESUS. There are 25 verses in the KJV wherein He said it.) knowing He knows ALL about me means more to me than my frail vocabulary can tell. This Truth gives me comfort, peace, a reality of security that is unequaled.  I met a young woman once who said she did not like it that He knew it all and saw it all concerning her. I thought that was sad. What do you think?

And how about verse 10? Wherever I am, wherever you are, if we are His, He will guide us AND His strength will support us.  That just flat-out feels good, doesn’t it?

Verse 16 — how sad do you think He is when He records the brevity of lifespan for every aborted baby?

Oh, oh and verses 17 and 18 — He thinks about you and me so much that His thoughts of us cannot be numbered! They outnumber the grains of sand on all the world’s beaches and under all the world’s seas. You know if we would just allow the Holy Spirit to give life to this Scripture within us it would cure our insecurities and inferiority complexes. Don’t you think?

I’ll finish with verse 24 – Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.  YES! Bring on the Search Light, ABBA.  Look in every corner, crevice, every minute place and cause me to see and be offended at every thing You find that offends You.  Amen and amen.

And it occurs to me as I am about to put this to post that His Word is the Search Light and if I am really serious about wanting Him to point out my offenses, I will open myself and apply myself to searching His Word, reading it, meditating upon it, praying it back to Him, for myself and for you.

So! Which of these verses speak to you today?

Me Too! Really!

2:17! Where has the day gone?? And I still have a trip to the store to make.

Journey. Journey Magazine that is.  If you don’t have access to one and you can, I highly recommend them.  It was asking me questions today.  May I ask the same of you? And will you answer?

In what ways does media influence you?
What do you believe about yourself or others that is a direct result of marketing?

Journey went on to say renewal of the mind is a process of transformation. The media want to transform us from who we are to who ‘they’ desire us to be: People who buy their products so we can be beautiful, skinny, smarter, healthier, enlightened, and so on. And the news media what do they want us to be? Just like them – politically correct.  You know what? I’ve just about had it up to here with politically correct. But that is not where I want to go with this, not today . :)

So tell me. How many of those ‘to be-s’ do you wish to be?

Beautiful?
Me too!  I’ve always wanted to be beautiful, but have never believed (except for one day) I am.  Media helped convince me I am not. Shame on them! Shame on me for believing them. Here’s what I should believe.

Song of Solomon 6:4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
4 “You are as beautiful as Tirzah, my darling, As lovely as Jerusalem, As awesome as an army with banners.

via Song of Solomon 6:4 NASB – You are as beautiful as Tirzah my – Bible Gateway.

So should you.

Smarter?
Me too!  But let us get real here! Are we really going to allow this sin saturated, money-grubbing, reprobate-minded media to continue to ‘transform’ us or are we going to believe the CREATOR of THE UNIVERSE?! Really!

1 Corinthians 2:16 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.

via 1 Corinthians 2:16 NASB – For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD – Bible Gateway.

Philippians 4:7 King James Version (KJV)
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

via Philippians 4:7 KJV – And the peace of God which passeth all – Bible Gateway.

And now for the one you have been expecting, the one you can quote and the one we better start acting on. Really!

Romans 12:2 King James Version (KJV)
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

via Romans 12:2 KJV – And be not conformed to this world but – Bible Gateway.

So! How will you answer Journey’s questions?

Third Monday of 2012.

Can you believe it?

So how is this new year going for you? Did you make New Year’s Resolutions? And are you still keeping them? Just curious.

Did you enjoy yesterday’s You Tube? Have you really meditated the words lately?

1.      Just as I am, without one plea,

but that thy blood was shed for me,

and that thou bidst me come to thee,

O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

2.      Just as I am, and waiting not

to rid my soul of one dark blot,

to thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,

O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, without one plea – no more trying to be good enough! And no more looking for other ways, no more looking to myself or others to save me; finally now standing on only one sure FACT: that the blood of JESUS CHRIST is enough to save ME! And moreover that HE, The Lamb of God, is offering His salvation to ME! And I am saying YES!

Now, isn’t that what this verse is proclaiming? Let us look at verse two.

Just as I am, and waiting not – no more excuses, no more ‘not now(s)’ but today; today is the day! Today I say yes. Today I will be rid of this deep dark emptiness. Today I will be clean; today not one sin will remain clinging to me; today The Lamb of GOD is making me clean. Today I come, just as I am to Him.

There are four more verses. You try it.

1 Chronicles 17:16 The Message (MSG)
16-27 King David went in, took his place before God, and prayed:

Who am I, my Master God, and what is my family, that you have brought me to this place in life? But that’s nothing compared to what’s coming, for you’ve also spoken of my family far into the future, given me a glimpse into tomorrow and looked on me, Master God, as a Somebody. What’s left for David to say to this—to your honoring your servant, even though you know me, just as I am? O God, out of the goodness of your heart, you’ve taken your servant to do this great thing and put your great work on display. There’s none like you, God, no God but you, nothing to compare with what we’ve heard with our own ears. And who is like your people, like Israel, a nation unique on earth, whom God set out to redeem as his own people (and became most famous for it), performing great and fearsome acts, throwing out nations and their gods left and right as you saved your people from Egypt? You established for yourself a people—your very own Israel!—your people forever. And you, God, became their God.

So now, great God, this word that you have spoken to me and my family, guarantee it forever! Do exactly what you’ve promised! Then your reputation will be confirmed and flourish always as people exclaim, “The God-of-the-Angel-Armies, the God over Israel, is Israel’s God!” And the house of your servant David will remain rock solid under your watchful presence. You, my God, have told me plainly, “I will build you a house.” That’s how I was able to find the courage to pray this prayer to you. God, being the God you are, you have spoken all these wonderful words to me. As if that weren’t enough, you’ve blessed my family so that it will continue in your presence always. Because you have blessed it, God, it’s really blessed—blessed for good!
