Flavor and Spice

In my considered opinion, the world has a way of ruining the use of certain words; perhaps you have noticed that too.

I came across one of those words in my Bible today.

Luke 11.

But I tell you, even if he won’t get up because the man is his friend, yet because of the man’s hutzpah he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
source

Do you see it?
Hutzpah.

It’s a strong word. With much flavor and spice.

But let’s gets some history.

Yeshua is teaching and as He often does, He is sharing a parable for those with ears to hear. (Mark 4:33-34) In this parable, He is teaching the art of persistent asking (that is we must persist in asking until we get His answer) and He uses the word hutzpah.

Now the world has taken this word and used it to mean arrogant, obnoxious, and other such unpleasantries.  [Yes. It’s the same word some add a C, some do not]

Do you see what I mean?

Now let me share with you a different slant and the one JESUS surely meant.

Boldness, Audacity, Insolence. Nerve. Gall OR a combination thereof weighted according to the situational need.  (from the glossary of my Complete Jewish Bible)

Now let’s see the TEXT.  Let’s see how JESUS illustrates the word.

“Moreover, I myself say to you: keep asking, and it will be given to you; keep seeking, and you will find; keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
10 For everyone who goes on asking receives; and he who goes on seeking finds; and to him who continues knocking, the door will be opened.

source

He is not saying don’t take no for an answer.
He is saying don’t stop until you get HIS ANSWER.

And don’t you love, I do, the first 6 words of verse 9?
“Moreover, I myself say to you:

I Myself He said. I Myself am saying to you. How AWESOME is that?
JESUS is saying to us: ask Father.
Ask Him with
hutzpah. With full intent of asking until He gives you His Answer.

And know this please, Father does not wait long with His answers so He can see how long we will ask; He waits so WE will see how long WE will ask.
How much hutzpah do we really have?
We do need to know! Don’t you think?

The Tenants

Look for a moment with me, please, at Luke 20, in particular, verse 19; but first a little background.

Yeshua has just given a parable to the people for their learning. The Scribes and Priests are also hearing this parable.

19 The Torah-teachers [Scribes] and the head cohanim [priests] would have seized him at that very moment, because they knew that he had aimed this parable at them, but they were afraid of the people.   emphasis added.  source

Do you see that the Scribes the Priests KNEW the parable was about them?
If you read the parable via the link provided above you will discover they know they are the tenants of the parable.
Look and see what these tenants did. Luke 20.

Will, we ever comprehend the depths of evil in the human heart wherein GOD is not on the throne of that heart?

Again I say these Religious Leaders KNEW they were the tenants. They KNEW they were murders of the heart BUT they refused to repent.

False Religion has done no good thing for us throughout all these millenniums.
James 1:27

Life is in RELATIONSHIP with the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON of GOD

The Tenants didn’t want to do life with Yeshua (JESUS).
They wanted to live life on their terms, not His.

What about you?

Nothing, I Tell You

Good Friday morning.

Today’s reading: Luke 4:16-20

As is my custom when you click the link to read the passage you will find 3 different translations from which to choose to read.

16 Now when he went to Natzeret, (Nazareth) where he had been brought up, on Shabbat he went to the synagogue as usual. He stood up to read,
17 and he was given the scroll of the prophet Yesha‘yahu. (Isaiah) Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,

18 “The Spirit of Adonai is upon me;
therefore he has anointed me
to announce Good News to the poor;
he has sent me to proclaim freedom for the imprisoned
and renewed sight for the blind,
to release those who have been crushed,
19 to proclaim a year of the favor of Adonai.”

20 After closing the scroll and returning it to the shammash, (attendant) he sat down; and the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.  source

on Shabbat he went to the synagogue as usual

As usual.  Yeshua.  Jesus, if you prefer, the perfect Jew.
The perfect Man.
The perfect GOD.

What is not to love about HIM?!!
Nothing, I tell you. Nothing!

Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,

He was familiar. So very familiar with that Scroll of Isaiah.
From the time He learned to read as a toddler (in my opinion), He began reading the Sacred Scrolls – the Ones He had inspired man to pen.
And yet to identify with us, He LEARNED to read and APPLY His very own Word as a MAN – the GODMAN.   John 1  Luke 2

Oh! what a MAN He is! Oh! What GOD He is!!

Enjoy your Friday,

Catch and Rescue

Thoughts this morning.

1 One day, as Yeshua was standing on the shore of Lake Kinneret,(Gennesaret) with the people pressing in around him in order to hear the word of God,
he noticed two boats pulled up on the beach, left there by the fishermen, who were cleaning their nets.
He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Shim‘on,
(Simon’s) and asked him to put out a little way from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
When he had finished speaking, he said to Shim‘on, “Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.”
Shim‘on answered, “We’ve worked hard all night long, Rabbi, and haven’t caught a thing! But if you say so, I’ll let down the nets.”
They did this and took in so many fish that their nets began to tear.
So they motioned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; and they came and filled both boats to the point of sinking.
When he saw this, Shim‘on Kefa
(Peter)fell at Yeshua’s knees and said, “Get away from me, sir, because I’m a sinner!”
For astonishment had seized him and everyone with him at the catch of fish they had taken,
10 and likewise both Ya‘akov and Yochanan,
(James and John, the sons of Zebedee) Shim‘on’s partners. “Don’t be frightened,” Yeshua said to Shim‘on, “from now on you will be catching men — alive!”
11 And as soon as they had beached their boats, they left everything behind and followed him.  [English names added kwt]  source

Verse 1 – in order to hear the Word of GOD.  THIS! The people came to Him to hear the Word of GOD from the Word of GOD (see John 1:1-4). And the Word to us is we are sinners in need of a Savior and Yeshua or JESUS if you prefer IS the only Savior of mankind!
They came to Him. They sought Him out. In other passages of Scripture, we are told the people came because they had eaten the bread He provided to them previously (see John 6:2); but here, these came to HEAR. How excellent is that?! Oh, that people would seek Him out TODAY to hear what He has said.

Verse 4 – “Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.”
The Text indicates to me this miracle had multiple purposes.
And, to me, one of those purposes is to tell me and hopefully you that GOD cares about your employment; He cares about your material needs and mine. He cares about the work you do to put food on the table for your family.
But even more relative and more needful is that we catch and rescue people from the depths of sin and depravity – so they can LIVE and be nourished and thrive in the Presence of JESUS.

We were meant for this,
