Haughty Eyes

Perhaps before we get too far into this new year of 2012 we would remind ourselves that we are loved by the Holy God of the Universe.  And that He is in truth holy and in His holiness there are things that He abhors.  Things of which we do not want to partake; things with which we do not want to corrupt and pollute this new year stretching long before us.

Go with me to Proverbs 6:16-19

16 There are six things which the LORD hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil,
19 A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.

Today, haughty eyes. That’s what caught my ‘eye’ first. :) We can count them down, seven things our God hates. Yea, these seven things are even an abomination to Him.

An abomination. It is what it is. Virtually our English language, even in the Hebrew and Greek languages, we are hard pressed to come up with an understanding of the awfulness of this word abomination.  Let the Greek speak:

  1. to render foul, to cause to be abhorred
  2. abominable
  3. to turn one’s self away from on account of the stench
  4. metaph. to abhor, detest

To turn one’s self away from on account of the stench. Do we kind of get the idea here what it means for our Gracious and Loving God to say a thing is an abomination to Him?

Turns Himself away from because the stench of it so repulses Him.
That my, Friend, is what we do not want!
To be sure JESUS knows what that means! Since HE experienced it in our place IF we have chosen to accept His Sacrifice on our behalf. (Matthew 27:46) And souls who have refused His Sacrifice and who continue in that refusal then someday shall experience being an abomination to the God of this Universe. But back to today’s point.

Haughty eyes.

So what are haughty eyes anyway?  The best in research that I could glean is this:

‘Eyes that look and say I have made a good life for myself and I have done it without You, God.’

That’s clear to me. I see it. I understand that it would be better for me to have no eyes than have haughty eyes.
Can a Christian even have haughty eyes anyway? What do you think?

Day 18 – Subtitle: Rebirth Birthdays

And today is mine – November the 18th,1975 at about 9:00 PM in Axis, Alabama.
Not all of us remember the date and time and place as vividly as I do. And that’s okay. HE knew I would need that moment to be indelibly etched on the walls of my mind and my heart for all the days of my life to follow.

On that remarkable Tuesday evening I was 23, soon to be 24.  I had a 6:00 PM appointment with a Teacher/Preacher that promised me by evening’s end I would KNOW if I was saved or not.  I did not believe him. But I kept the appointment anyway. You see I had been doubting my religious experiences all my life. I expected to live in doubt the rest of my life. I was WRONG. Praise GOD I was wrong!! I’ve never been so glad to be wrong in my life!!

So I arrived at his office and he shared Scripture with me. Much Scripture. Familiar Scripture. But it was different that time. And I did what I said I would not do. I poured out all the pain, hurt, sins committed, and unbelief that had kept me a dead woman. And in a moment of faith I believed. I believed the Gospel for myself. For myself, I believed that I was bad enough to go to hell (even deserved it and God was just in saying so), but I  was NOT so bad that I could not be saved (I had been afraid of that for so long)! That night I saw it! That JESUS’ BLOOD was sufficient. Sufficient enough to save even me!! And HE did!

My first act was to breathe. I remember taking that first breath without the load of sin and guilt and doubt that had been crushing me. And then I simply said ‘Thank You’. And JESUS smiled and said ‘You are welcome.’

For this I am more thankful than ANYTHING!!   All the wonderful people and abundant things in my life, NONE of it or them compares to HIM. NOTHING compares to KNOWING I am HIS and HE is mine.

And right about 9:00 o’clock, He also gifted me with a silly giggle. I still have it. And some day I will gladly bow at His feet and we both will giggle. Yes I do believe it. Don’t you?

So do you have ‘a giggle’?  Yes? Then you too have the greatest of all reasons to give Thanks.

Yes. You read it right. Judgment. I am happy dance grateful for judgment.  I have come to understand that when a man or woman says ‘don’t judge me’ they are really saying ‘don’t tell me I did wrong’.

I would so like to say Dear One perish the thought! There is no need for me to judge, nor can I.
GOD already has.
It is recorded in His Word – the judgment is written there for us to read and believe for ourselves.

But that’s not what I am happy dance grateful about. Would you like to know?
Good.
Cause I really want to share it.
I am happy dance grateful that I am no longer afraid of judgment. Moreover, I am delighted to look my sins square in the face and hear them declared worthy of judgment. Why?
Because the next thing I hear is that JESUS PAID IT ALL for me and because I have accepted His sacrifice, I am free of guilt and condemnation.

I am happy dance grateful that nothing I think, say, or do is hidden from Father and He, the HOLY SPIRIT, is ever-present to nudge me, prod me, remind me, whatever it takes to get me to agree, and lay that unholy thought or deed at the foot of JESUS’ cross and be fully clean and un-condemned.

Oh yes! I’ll gladly take moments of horrendous painful judgment to receive the full pardon offered by JESUS CHRIST!!
Yes! Yes! HOLY SPIRIT tell me, convince me when I am wrong when I have sinned against You.  I invite You to judge my thoughts and my deeds continuously. And, if You use the mouth of one of my brothers or sisters to speak that correction, thank You, LORD. Thank You that they and You love me enough to tell me. Amen and Amen in JESUS’ Name.
