If We What?

Day 15 — Soul Detox

Psalms 27:1-14

Devotional

We are often paralyzed with irrational fear that something may happen. Rather than living by faith, we live by fear. These toxic fears can cripple our lives and rob us of our joy. This week you will read what God’s Word says about toxic fears and how we should face them.

How have you seen your toxic fears influence your actions and thoughts?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

As you read the Text for today (via the link above or your own copy of Scripture in hand) did you notice NOT to fear is a choice? Did you notice that the Scripture in no way tells us there are not scary things around us?

What about evildoers, adversaries, foes all trying to eat us up? We can be easily paralyzed except for one choice. The choice must be to TRUST.

I mean what does verse 1 say?

Yeshua is our LIGHT – He gets us through any DARKNESS if we TRUST.  And He is our SALVATION – He delivers us from every evildoer, every adversary, every foe that comes against us if we TRUST.

And the Psalmist penned:

Adonai is the stronghold of my life;

of whom should I be afraid?

via Psalms 27:1-14 CJB;NASB – By David: ADONAI is my light and – Bible Gateway.

Of whom indeed should we be afraid?

How’s that for defeating toxic thinking and fear?

Sophos

Day 11 – Soul Detox

James 3:1-18

Devotional

Don’t internalize the toxic words that others speak about you. Instead, guard your heart against toxic words, and every chance you get, speak life-giving words.

Why do you think we tend to speak more toxic words than life-giving words even when we don’t intend to?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

I have read these verses not less than three times and to pick out one verse or even two verses to highlight here with you — well, so far, NOT. You just need to read the whole of it and allow the HOLY SPIRIT to speak.

I can say this much, the wisdom from above that is spoken of in verse 17; the Greek Lexicon (online) let me know this wisdom is most needed and much lacking. It is described this way:

forming the best plans and using the best means for their execution

via Sophos – New Testament Greek Lexicon – King James Version.

But it does not stop there. For you see forming best plans and best means of execution would be perverted UNLESS said wisdom comes from above and that wisdom; the wisdom coming from GOD is first pure; not gunked up with self-serving self. And it is

then peaceful, kind, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

via James 3:1-18 CJB – Not many of you should become teachers, – Bible Gateway.

Are you challenged to think with Wisdom? Godly wisdom? Is this appealing to somebody today?

A surpassing Thursday, my Friends!

Unguarded Hearts

Proverbs 4:1-27

Devotional

Even as you strive to stop saying toxic words to others, you will still have to deal with toxic words being said to you. As a result, you must do what God’s Word tells us to do when others speak toxic words to us: you must guard your heart against them.

How will you guard your heart against toxic words?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

Here’s our WORD for today not only for ridding our minds and souls of toxic thinking but every other issue of correction plaguing us.

13 Hold fast to discipline, don’t let it go; guard it, for it is your life.

via Proverbs 4:1-27 CJB – Listen, children, to a father’s – Bible Gateway.

23 Above everything else, guard your heart; for it is the source of life’s consequences.

via Proverbs 4:1-27 CJB – Listen, children, to a father’s – Bible Gateway.

This one is settling in hard on me.

My life.

Your life.

Our lives are what our hearts make them.

No one can ruin, stain, disrupt, corrupt, etc. etc. etc.  my life but me; and I do that with my very own unguarded heart.  Does this bear witness with you today?

Sticks and Stones

Day 8 of Soul Detox

Proverbs 12:11-23

Proverbs 18:21

Devotional

Words can hurt you and the right words can help heal you. Those words that crush and hurt you are known as toxic words. Toxic words are incredibly dangerous not only when they are spoken to you, but when you speak them to others. This week you will read from God’s Word about the dangers of toxic words and the power of life-giving words.

How are toxic words infecting your life right now?

via Soul Detox | YouVersion.com.

Do you remember that childhood saying: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me.”

How many of us have personal experience with that lie?!

How many of us know in a moment we can slash others with emotional wounds that take a lifetime to heal?

How many of us think phrases (and even say them aloud) to ourselves if others said the same words to us we would be crushed?

How many of us know our words matter? Those we say to others and to ourselves?

How many of us are willing to allow the HOLY SPIRIT to teach us a better way of speaking and thinking?

8 Idle talk can pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise can heal.

via Proverbs 12:11-23; Proverbs 18:21 CJB;NASB;KJV – He who farms his land will have plenty – Bible Gateway.

Proverbs 18:21 The Message (MSG)

21 Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

via Proverbs 12:11-23; Proverbs 18:21 CJB;MSG;KJV – He who farms his land will have plenty – Bible Gateway.

So what is the HOLY SPIRIT saying to you about your words? What is He saying to me? Are my words: Sticks, stones or healing balm? That’s a good question. And I know the answer. A mixture of all three.  My quest for today is to heavy that mixture on the healing balm side. You too?  :)
