Day 7 – Birthdays
I am thankful for birthdays.
November birthdays.
Any months’ birthdays.
Birthdays are milestones. Strange about these milestones. To the young, the stretch between them seems a longer trek than ‘Christmas’. To us with some mileage on us – well, the span seems hardly more than a blink until another one rolls around.
Perhaps this difference is all about the perspective of the young and the older. The adolescent is just waiting for the day he or she will be 13. An official teenager. And then it’s 16 and driver’s license and then it’s 25 so the insurance on that beloved vehicle will be more manageable. And after that? Well arriving at middle age is a blink, maybe two. 🙂 And then those milestones really begin to zip. Albeit sometimes skirts don’t – I’ll leave that right there. Aren’t you glad??
Today my Baby Girl is thirty-five and I tell you it’s been quick. She has packed a lot of living in that span of years. And every birthday marks another year of celebration she brings to me.
Yes. I am thankful for birthdays. Children’s, Grands’, Brothers’, Sisters’, Friends’. Birthdays mark journeys, living, growing, changing years. The one passed and the one to come. And the one that has passed? Whatever number attached, let it pass. Let it go. The good of it, the bad of it, the sad of it, the happy of it, all of it. And begin again. Determined by the Grace and Mercy of God the coming one will have celebration written all over it. That’s really what JESUS wants for you, you know.
