Across the Table

I would very much like to encourage you to read Mark 1
I will herewith provide you a LINK for easy reading.

There are so many things to notice about JESUS in just this first chapter.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to sit across the table from one another and share all the nuggets in this chapter?

As the GODMAN, fully GOD and fully MAN, can you imagine how comforting and encouraging it was to JESUS to hear the audible voice of His Father saying to Him: ” You are my Son, whom I love, I am well pleased with you.”

And on the very heels of that He is in a desolate (wilderness) place for 40 days; all that He endured is not recorded for us here but we do know The Adversary was there to tempt Him.
Satan failed.

Perhaps it’s just me but I think the words of The Father helped Him during those 40 days.

And don’t you love in verse 22 how the people were amazed at the difference between JESUS’ teaching and the Torah-Teachers’ teaching?

Have you ever wondered if the devil goes to church?
Verse 23 will answer that for you I think.

AND don’t miss how they (the demons) refer to JESUS.
The Holy One of GOD!

From this, I think we can know that just knowing who JESUS is is not enough to redeem us.

And please don’t miss that JESUS had been ministering all day and after SUNDOWN folks were still coming to be healed.

AND then VERY EARLY in the morning, while it is still DARK, JESUS goes to a lonely (an all by Himself) spot to PRAY.

Bible Study

So. What did YOU find as you read Mark 1?

Where are my Glasses?

I am grateful for corrective lens.

Without them, my view from my dining table is color in vague shapes.

Oh, I can see well enough to get around in familiar places but there is so much I miss this way. I am reminded of the man who went to JESUS for his sight.

Men walking like trees – is that what he said? See Mark 8:24

Corrective Lens

That’s one thing earth man crafted very well.
Albeit even these well-crafted lenses will not enable me to truly see my fellow man or this created world as I am meant to see.
I need the CREATOR HIMSELF for that.

JESUS.
The True Corrector of my sight.

Has He begun to correct your sight?

Do You See What I See?

Today, I would that you remember and take to mind and heart that JESUS is watching, taking note, and is speaking to others on your behalf.
And here is why.
Read it carefully and see if you see what I see.

41 Then Yeshua sat down opposite the Temple treasury and watched the crowd as they put money into the offering-boxes. Many rich people put in large sums, 42 but a poor widow came and put in two small coins. 43 He called his talmidim [disciples] to him and said to them, “Yes! I tell you, this poor widow has put more in the offering-box than all the others making donations. 44 For all of them, out of their wealth, have contributed money they can easily spare; but she, out of her poverty, has given everything she had to live on.”  source

Flavor and Spice

In my considered opinion, the world has a way of ruining the use of certain words; perhaps you have noticed that too.

I came across one of those words in my Bible today.

Luke 11.

But I tell you, even if he won’t get up because the man is his friend, yet because of the man’s hutzpah he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

Do you see it?
Hutzpah.

It’s a strong word. With much flavor and spice.

But let’s gets some history.

Yeshua is teaching and as He often does, He is sharing a parable for those with ears to hear. (Mark 4:33-34) In this parable, He is teaching the art of persistent asking (that is we must persist in asking until we get His answer) and He uses the word hutzpah.

Now the world has taken this word and used it to mean arrogant, obnoxious, and other such unpleasantries.  [Yes. It’s the same word some add a C, some do not]

Do you see what I mean?

Now let me share with you a different slant and the one JESUS surely meant.

Boldness, Audacity, Insolence. Nerve. Gall OR a combination thereof weighted according to the situational need.  (from the glossary of my Complete Jewish Bible)

Now let’s see the TEXT.  Let’s see how JESUS illustrates the word.

“Moreover, I myself say to you: keep asking, and it will be given to you; keep seeking, and you will find; keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
10 For everyone who goes on asking receives; and he who goes on seeking finds; and to him who continues knocking, the door will be opened.

source

He is not saying don’t take no for an answer.
He is saying don’t stop until you get HIS ANSWER.

And don’t you love, I do, the first 6 words of verse 9?
“Moreover, I myself say to you:

I Myself He said. I Myself am saying to you. How AWESOME is that?
JESUS is saying to us: ask Father.
Ask Him with
hutzpah. With full intent of asking until He gives you His Answer.

And know this please, Father does not wait long with His answers so He can see how long we will ask; He waits so WE will see how long WE will ask.
How much hutzpah do we really have?
We do need to know! Don’t you think?
