IDOK DEVOTION FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2008
Fruit Inspectors with Fog Horns
I hope you are not weary with me continuing in John 21. I have just sat down to read and as is often I don’t know where this IDOK is going today. My first stop is just a ‘warm fuzzy’ I think. It’s verse 9: Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there; and fish laid on it, and bread. I want you to see the scene. Jesus in His resurrected body, not some ghostly, shadowy, apparition but REAL, touchable; nail scars and all is there. Now get your mind and your emotions around this. He is not just any Man. He is GOD. Creator of the Universe. And He is COOKING BREAKFAST! Is He AWESOME or what? Don’t you just want to LOVE HIM!? Don’t you just want to be there? Don’t you want to just lay your baby blues or greens or browns; whatever color eyes you have upon HIM? OH, I Do!!! But even before I read this Scripture this morning, I could have told you that Jesus can cook. I rarely step into the kitchen to prepare a meal that I do not talk to Him about it. Especially when it’s a new recipe I’m trying, particularly if I am making it up as I go along. And as I do, I ask Him what ingredients to add. And often I hear Him right because the dish turns out ‘not bad’ as my Isabel is favored to say. Actually her Puppa says that too. Gotta love ’em!
My ‘warm fuzzy’ in this verse is that Jesus is REAL and He loves. He loves/loved Peter and the Boys. He gathered the materials – coals, utensils, fish, flour, oil – everything and GOD COOKED BREAKFAST! I LOVE IT!! Can you tell? I don’t want to freak you out too much here but I really think Jesus cleaned the fish too! I am so impressed with JESUS as a Man (and, of course, GOD). No wonder the Women followed Him. Talk about a Man who knew His manners and would help around the house! A Man who laughs at your holy jokes. A Man who listens, really listens when you talk. Girlfriend, He is it!! I am not intending to be irreverent. I am only wanting you to get a warm, loving glimpse that Jesus is the GOD-Man. 100% God. 100% Perfect Man. Ministering to Him must have been the greatest joy of their lives. Is it ours? Sisters and Brothers?
As I said, verse 9 is just one of those verses that makes me feel good. Don’t let anyone convince you that Our God is an emotion-less God. Where do you think you got yours? Notwithstanding, when He gave them to Adam and Eve they were perfected emotions. But, don’t despair, we will have perfected emotions again. And until then we will just keep practicing! Is that enough for today or shall I go on?
You know what happened after breakfast, don’t you? Serious business. Jesus began His restoring work on Peter. He asked Peter three times do you love Me? And He admonished Peter to feed my lambs and tend my sheep. I read a ‘commentary’ on this that I like. The Blog’s author is Seth Barnes. In part he wrote: “We see a more accurate concept of feeding sheep in Jesus’ picture description of a shepherd and sheep in John 10. The shepherd calls them out and the sheep listen to his voice. We see a third party in John 10 – the watchman who “opens the gate” for Jesus to speak and to call them out. It would seem his main job is to be on the lookout for enemies and teach the sheep to listen to the shepherd’s voice. John 10:4 says, “his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” It is Jesus himself who feeds his sheep. If as disciplers and pastors we’re not teaching our sheep to recognize Jesus’ voice, they inevitably will go hungry.” http://www.sethbarnes.com/index.asp?filename=what-does-feed-my-lambs-mean
A watchman or door keeper. Is there anything greater than this: to be a ‘Door Keeper’ in the Kingdom of God? I don’t think so. To listen and hear the Voice of Jesus and then help others hear Him too! This is the GREATEST and most noble of all callings!! And each of us as we mature in faith, in our homes and offices and class rooms, whatever our vocation or field of influence, are called to be ‘door keepers’. Oh! Yes! Let me be a Door Keeper in the House of God!!
One more thing. Not only do Doorkeepers help others hear the voice of Jesus but they also look out for enemies of the Sheep and sound an alarm.
2 Chronicles 23: 19 He also stationed doorkeepers at the gates of the LORD’s temple so that no one who was in any way unclean might enter.
Now don’t you dare think for a nano-second, I am saying this means the unsaved are to be discouraged from Services and Events at the Local Church. By no means! In fact Jesus said we are to go out and call them in. Luke 14: 23 Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
No, Doorkeepers are not called to be ‘Judge and Jury’; but rather, ‘Fruit Inspectors’ equipped with ‘Fog Horns’ and when a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ is spotted: Sound the Alarm! The sheep will listen and will heed.
Abba, when this IDOK started out is was warm and sweet and humorous, just holy fun but it has ended sober and so serious I think. I do want to be mature at this Doorkeeper calling. And I want to make sure that when a wolf in sheep’s clothing appears I sound the alarm in such a way as to not only warn the sheep but call the wolf to repentance too. Only You Lord can do that in me. Please make it so. And DADDY GOD, I think other IDOKs will say amen to this. Lord Jesus thank You for the intimate way You love us and live with us, even cooking breakfast. Lord You are AWESOME. And we do want to see You. We want to get so homesick for You that we tell every soul You prepare in our path, to come along with us to Your House. Holy Spirit, help us go to the highways and hedges of our homes and offices and classrooms and invited the people to come and see YOU. Thank You for this. Help us meditate on it and make it our own. And Lord, send a doorkeeper to feed our IDOK Troops and families today and keep them safe and bring them home at the appointed time. Open the mouths of Doorkeepers all over to sound the alarm to America and the world. Father, forgive America; give space and grace to repent. I am still trusting You for the Peace of Israel and for America to stand beside Israel. And now we turn closer to home and we come with this list of names, precious people; some hurting physically, some sick and seemingly gravely ill, some grieving the temporary loss of one they love, another wanting so much to hear again, please make it so; and so much more. Lord, we want them well, and whole and full of joy and peace and prosperous in business. You know our needs, You know our wants – and we say Do Your Will Lord and by Your Grace we will rejoice in it. Amen and amen.

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2008

Prayer Updates from Kristi: Day 32 in Hospital “Last night I asked if Danni could go to sleep without Bipap on room air and See what happens. She did not use Bipap at all last night, and only required About 1 litre of 02 for an hour or so!!! She looks great to me minus the Pic line.”
You can take EDIE off the prayer list as she is doing very well after Surgery (around 3 months ago now) and is home in Mississippi back to Herself.
Please Add Tory to the prayer list……Tory remains in hospital (day 11) with complications arising from her spinal Fusion surgery. Her wound is infected and breaking down in several spots, And she’s just so miserable. The doctors are not optimistic and just keep Saying ‘wait and see’…the waiting has us all stretched very thin! Please Pray for a recovery from this awful infection, so she can begin healing. Prayer seems to be all we’ve got right now; only God can convince her body To beat the bad guys in her and come on back home with us. Please pray for Her.

Abba, thank You for Edie’s recovery and thank You for Danni’s improved status and we continue to pray for complete recovery for Danni. And now we bring Tory in a similar state and we pray for recovery for her too. We pray for strength and peace for her family as they wait upon You. Lord, You told us to bring the children to You so we are and we trust Your Love to tenderly care for these little ones and moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas too.

I am continuing to read in John 21. And my first thought seems ‘out there’ but I’ll share it anyway. Look with me at verse 7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.
Without doing some research and even then I am not certain I could ascertain how many days post the Resurrection, Peter and the Boys went fishing; but nevertheless, they were fishing. Maybe Peter was trying to get on with his life and the Others decided to follow him. (Makes me think we should be careful where we go, others may follow.) They had all seen Jesus since His Resurrection, but I think they were clueless at that moment as to what the Resurrection was to mean to them for the rest of their earthly lives. So they did what came naturally. They went fishing. And going fishing in and of itself may not be bad. But IF going fishing represents going back to doing things the OLD way because the NEW way seems impossible or at best, unclear; then ‘fishing’ isn’t a good plan. BUT GOD is sovereign even over our sojourns back into OLD WAYS. And by now you may be saying, “Kathie, how did you get this from verse 7”? As I said it’s ‘out there’ and getting more out there, I think. Verse 7 says that Peter had taken off his outer garment while fishing. And maybe there are times when that is okay. We do need proper work attire, don’t we? But when he saw Jesus he put his garment back on and plunged into the sea to get to Jesus as fast as he could. So I am thinking verse 7 is a picture of restoration. A picture of starting again. And as you read the rest of Chapter 21, that is what happened with Peter. Jesus had come to where Peter was to ‘restore’ him. Work with me here, this is good I think. I hope. Recall with me that Peter denied the Lord prior to His crucifixion. Lets phrase that this way. Peter took off his ‘garment of praise’. Peter was scared. Too scared to praise the Lord. Too scared to even admit he was a disciple. So when I read verse 7 I thought you know when we go back to an old practice that is what we do in a way. We take off our ‘garment of praise’ and we practice our old ways of fear, doubt, griping, complaining, selfishness, etc. Etc. And while we are practicing our old ways, just as Peter and the Boys did not catch any fish, we are not catching any ‘fish’ for the Kingdom of God. But when we find ourselves or I should say when Jesus comes and finds us in our old fishing hole, if we will look up, focus on HIM, and put on again our ‘garment of praise’, we will be restored. We can then delve into deep water or maybe even ‘walk’ on it (I know that’s a different story) and begin again to fellowship with Jesus, catch a few fish and maybe even feed a few of His sheep. The point is if we keep on our garments of praise, we won’t go back to our same old fishing hole.
Abba, thank You for this lesson. Thank You for what You have done in these recent days and I ask You to continue to raise Yourself up in us. I pray for more and more insight into You and Your Ways, not just for the knowledge alone but so we can obey You more fully. Thank You for the events of this weekend. Some happy times and some bitter-sweet time. I pray for the Jackson Family as they and friends and family gather to celebrate the life and home-going of Mrs. Barbara. Thank You for the kindness and the love she so easily gave. Comfort ET and all the family as they wake up and breathe in this next little while. And we continue to read these names here. Thank You for the good news from Brittney. We are delighted with Your Grace to her in accomplishments and successes. We look for more good news, more steps in faith and more rewards for Brittney and others too. Thank You for protecting our IDOK Troops and Families. Thank You for Your Hand upon Your People. And we continue to pray for America, for grace and space to repent. I pray the interviews that took place in California will open eyes and minds before it is too late. Father, please forgive and save America. And Holy Spirit, revive and refresh Christian Churches to holy living both in voice and deed for Jesus sake. Amen and amen. Tory. Davison and Mosley Families. A Net Lesson

IDOK DEVOTION FOR FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 2008

A portion of today’s Scripture reading was John 21. It’s the account of Peter and the Others going fishing and Jesus coming to the shore to cook breakfast for them. I like that. You know this being a Christian really is all about a relationship with Jesus. Never let anyone convince you differently.
As I understand this passage it was Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James and John and two Others (who are not named) who had gone fishing. Can you see it – Seven guys in a boat all night throwing out the net, dragging it in and NOTHING? Not one little fish. The only redeeming thing about the night was Jesus, the next morning. Isn’t that the truth? Our ‘nights’ of trying and working and striving and doing yield us NOTHING. But when we look up and see JESUS in the ‘dawn’ — well, He’s the difference. So He asked the guys if they had any fish. He knew they didn’t but you know, often we have to admit to Jesus we don’t have it before He can enable us to get it. So He told them to cast the net again and they did. Smart move! And you know the story – 153 LARGE fish! I think one of the reasons we are told 153 large fish is so we will not miss the fact that Jesus kept the net together. Can you give praise today that Jesus is keeping ‘your net’ together when it surely has enough in it to break it? Well, go ahead – lift up a ‘thank You’ to Him.
I wonder when this net did not break if Peter remembered another time when Jesus invited him to launch out into the deep with the net. That event is recorded for us at Luke 5:5 Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets.” 6 When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break; 7 so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink.
That time Peter called to the others to come help; they did and everybody got blessed.
Sometimes just Jesus and you can handle a ‘full net’ and sometimes His design is to have others come alongside to help you with your full and breaking net. Be sure, He could hold it together for you without the assistance of others but sometimes that is not what is best. What a blessing we miss ourselves and deprive of others when we see our net breaking and we refuse to let others share the load with us. And please don’t apply this to just the tough stuff; fun stuff (extravagate blessings) needs to be shared too.
Well, this is not where I thought we were going with this devotion today. I thought we were going to get theologically deep in this (as deep as I am able to get so far, that is) but maybe this ‘net’ business it is just right for us today.
If you read on in Luke 5, you will see this breaking net expedition took place early on when Jesus called Peter and the others to ministry (The John 21 fishing event was after the Resurrection, before Jesus ascended to ABBA). It was after this great haul of fish and the breaking of the net that Peter and the Others forsook the life they were living and followed Jesus. Is it our ‘breaking nets’ that draw us close to Jesus? And what about those miracle nets that are full but do not break? What do they do? I’ll leave that question for you to ponder with Jesus.
John 21: 6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.
11 Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken.
One more thought: He said cast the net on the RIGHT side of the boat and you will find some.
LORD, we are grateful for this ‘net’ lesson. We are grateful for the blessing You intend for us and others when our nets are breaking. And we are grateful for full nets that do not break. And LORD to ensure that our nets are the nets You desire for us, keep us fishing on the RIGHT side of the boat. ABBA, help us see and discern the RIGHT side of our boat.
Father, it seems these folks listed here are in our boat and we want to speak life and blessing over them today. We want Your Word to spread over them and bring comfort and warmth as needed. We want Your Word to inspire and encourage and motivate these and us to right thinking and good works. We want Your Word to empower and energize Christian Faith in them and us. We want Your Word to enable us to believe and receive whatever You allow into our nets today and give You glory for the net. And yes Lord, we want to see You heal and restore too. We want fully restored hearing for Steve; we want Bernie to be cancer free; we want Rachel well and whole, and as we look over the rest of the names, there’s multiple and varied needs, our IDOK Troops who are abroad and at home, for them all we pray Thy Will be done always, Lord. Amen and amen.
