Woodshed

I have a question for us.
Are we afraid because we think we don’t matter?
Questioning our value to GOD?

Why the question?

Luke 12

Specifically verses 4-7.

Here I’ll paste them to the page for you.

“My friends, I tell you: don’t fear those who kill the body but then have nothing more they can do. I will show you whom to fear: fear him who after killing you has authority to throw you into Gei-Hinnom! Yes, I tell you, this is the one to fear! Aren’t sparrows sold for next to nothing, five for two assarions? And not one of them has been forgotten by God. Why, every hair on your head has been counted! Don’t be afraid, you are worth more than many sparrows.  source

Do you see? Verse 7. Read it till you believe it.

And while we are on the subject, let’s look at who we should and should not be afraid.

I mean for real, who are we afraid of?
(Forgive me just had to leave that preposition at the end.)

I mean when we are threatened by someone, wouldn’t it be the BEST! to be so secure in JESUS that we with firm authority say,
“What’s the worse thing you can do to me?
Kill me?
Then I am with JESUS! Give it your best shot!”

What did JESUS say in this passage?
For Real Christians what is the worse thing another human person can do to us?
Be the vehicle of exit from this cruel, hostile world?

(Albeit, even I can admit that beatings, tortures, etc. are not what I want but I understand from the testimonies of  Saints that JESUS gives unspeakable help and comfort during such sufferings.)

So who do people need to be afraid of?
This is not spoken on the street or preached in the pulpit, but I am saying it.

Any person who has not repented, believed and received in exchange for their sins the RIGHTEOUSNESS of JESUS — oh they need to be afraid.
Very afraid of none other than GOD, HIMSELF.

We are taught in this culture that GOD is all love and there is no reason to be afraid of Him.

Rubbish from hell!

Read it again.

I will show you whom to fear: fear him who after killing you has authority to throw you into Gei-Hinnom! Yes, I tell you, this is the one to fear!

And please please do not miss that word AUTHORITY.  And please do not miss there is only ONE to fear.
HE has the authority, and the right, it is JUST for Him to cast every unbeliever into the hell they have chosen.

This is Who we should be afraid of!
And even as His children, bought and cleansed by The BLOOD of His Only Begotten Son, we better still be afraid of disobeying Him!
He chastens those He loves when they disobey — by the way, so does any godly daddy.

So, we really need to work at staying out of the woodshed.
Not just because it hurts but because HE IS WORTHY of our obedience and love.

He chastens those that are His. Hebrews 12:6-11

That’s it for now.pioneer-woodshed-sheri-mcleroy

Crazy Talk

Luke 9

Okay. So here’s the deal.

At the beginning of this chapter, YESHUA called His disciples together, having been well-trained I believe, He commissioned them and gave them authority, and sent them out.
He gave them authority to cast out demons and to heal sick people.
(JESUS here gave authority to His disciples to cast out demons.
JESUS did this!
For JESUS to do this He must know there are demons to be cast out. So I wonder why so many Christian Folk today act like demons have gone on a permanent vacation from inhabiting people.  But that wasn’t my point so I’ll get back to it now
:)

And when all this GOOD NEWS began circulating, so did some TALK.

Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening; and he was greatly perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead, and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen. source

So get this!
Herod and some others found it more palatable to believe that John the Baptizer or Elijah had been raised from the dead than to believe that YESHUA was The Messiah who had come to deliver them.
So, if in Chapter 9 they believed people could be raised from the dead, why then when YESHUA was raised from the dead on the Third Day after His execution, did they refuse to believe?

Do you know people like that today?
They would rather believe any sort of craziness rather than believe THE ONE TRUE GOD came here to this messed up world so He could deliver us and save us from sin, death, hell, and the grave.

Go figure.

Crazy Talk!

1Let’s make this Friday a productive one.

Voices

Luke 8

Verse 56. Sometimes Silence is obedience.
I hope you will read the account in Luke 8 to see if you agree.

The parable of the Sower is recorded and explained in Luke 8
Please check it and see where you are with it: birds, rocks, weeds, fertile ground?

And at the beginning of the chapter, I noticed not just poor people followed YESHUA.
Some wealthy women believed and contributed to the needs of spreading the Gospel.

And then there was the account in verses 22-25.
YESHUA and His disciples, at His prompting, board a boat to cross the lake to the other side.
YESHUA goes to sleep. He takes a nap. I am thinking His physical body with its limitations was tired or perhaps there was another reason for His nap. Maybe He will tell me one day.
So He is asleep and a storm comes down upon the lake. The Boys are terrified.
They say:

24 They went and woke him, saying, “Rabbi! Rabbi! We’re about to die!” He woke up, rebuked the wind and the rough water; and they calmed down, so that it was still. source

I think we can coin the phrase The Boys were scared to death. What did JESUS say?

25 Then he said to the talmidim, “Where is your trust?” Awestruck, they marveled, asking one another, “Who can this be, that he commands even the wind and the water, and they obey him?”  source

How about a little KWT paraphrasing?

He said:

“Where is your trust?”

Could we understand Him to say: ‘Do you only trust Me when you see Me actively doing or do you simply Trust Me?’

Do we only trust The LORD when we SEE Him working? When we SEE Him doing what we want Him to do?
But when He seems to be asleep, inactive, not responsive, and not awake to our needs and wants, are we really trusting Him?

Where is your trust?

It’s a valid question — we all must answer.

One more and I’ll leave the rest for you to explore.

Verses 26-31.
YESHUA had/has the AUTHORITY to send demons to the bottomless pit.
Bottomless – I think it has to be for the number of occupants that will be there one day.

And please notice in those verses the demons KNOW they deserve torture.
They deserve the bottomless pit, the Abyss, the Lake of Fire (whatever term is used in the Text) and they know they belong there. People need to know and accept the same – apart from repentance torment is earned.

The demons cannot repent.
PEOPLE CAN.
That’s really GOOD NEWS.
We need to spread it around.

Well, I shall now get on with this Thursday.  Sweet-Thursday
