First

I visited a bit this evening with a dear blog sister, Elaine, at Peace for the Journey. Click HERE and read her post.  It is her post that prompted me to go looking for the you tube featured below.  Let the words transport you to a place of worship. In particular note these words: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

ABBA, this is my prayer that You High King of Heaven be FIRST in my heart; truly be in my words and practice, Thou my Treasure now and forever.  Thank You for songs so beautiful that lead us to worship You. Thank You for all the huge and smaller things You are doing in our lives. I am reminded of the Billy Graham telecast just a few weeks away; thank You for such a servant as he is and I pray this endeavor will bring the harvest of souls that You desire. I pray we will be pliable in Your Hands and will do as You will to assist in sharing this telecast with others. I am again bringing Bella, Carolyn, Jamie, Teri and family, Dori, and other situations to You, confessing we need Your help and we desire that You heal and restore these. And in truth, ABBA, these named are only a small number of the names and faces that I bring now asking You for mercy and grace. Holy Spirit, keep us ceaselessly praying for others, always in the Mighty Name of YESHUA.

For it is the God who once said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has made his light shine in our hearts, the light of the knowledge of God’s glory shining in the face of the Messiah Yeshua.
But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it will be evident that such overwhelming power comes from God and not from us.

Friday Notes

I heard Rebecca St. James say today that what you are watching and what you are hearing is feeding what you do.

I heard Joyce Meyer say (my paraphrase, of course)that my purpose (your purpose) for being here on this planet is not to get a husband, or a promotion, or any of those ‘things’ that you or I might be seeking or wanting; my purpose, your purpose, for being here on this planet is to get to KNOW God.   What is staggering about this to me is this purpose is not given to you and me at our salvation in Jesus Christ; it is given to EVERY person EVER conceived. What God wants when He breathes life into every embryo is for that person to get to KNOW Him.  And at that moment, at conception, I believe ALL HELL takes notice and begins to set in motion events and happenings to destroy, corrupt, intercept, stop, foil, and absolutely make it ‘impossible’ for that person to come to KNOW GOD.   This is HUGE to me! This single paragraph sends my thoughts into overdrive, overwhelmed to contemplate all it means and all the ways this knowledge should motivate me to KNOW Him and how this KNOWING Him would affect the way I think, feel, act, and re-act to and about everything!  I usually say, I encourage you but today I am saying I challenge you to ponder this.  I challenge you to take this ‘paragraph’ to Him and ask Him to reveal to you what this means for you personally – how He wants to personally affect you with it.

Ecclesiastes 12: (Amplified Bible) 13 All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God’s providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [duty] for every man. 1 John 5:20 (New American Standard Bible) 20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ This is the true God and eternal life. [source]

1 Corinthians 10: (Holman Christian Standard Bible) 31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God’s glory. [source]

Lord and Father, the song that was sung tonight is true — even though the wrong seems so strong, You are the Ruler yet.  I don’t know how I could live if I did not know that You are the Ruler of all. Thank You.  Not only that it is true but that You have given me faith to know it is true. Thank You. Thank You.   You spoke messages to my heart today through Your servants in the pulpit and through prayers You have answered.  Thank You.  I pray You will take this word here and make it helpful to people.  I pray You will apply Your Word and I pray that we will KNOW You as You desire to be known by each of us.

I pray for ________, for revelation and for remedy; for strength and restoration for _______.  And the needs spoken here are as varied as the names; meet them where they are and rescue them.  And our IDOK Troops are always our concern, that they be safe; that they be protected from harm and so we renew that prayer yet again.  No doubt they each have needs that we are not even aware of nor can enter into with them, but You can and we pray for You to do that.

I continue to pray for America, for grace and space to repent; for the voice of the godly to be heard, and for the voice of the ungodly to be exposed for what it is – ungodly. And we still have the people of Haiti on our minds too and the great need there and the great opportunity for You to show Yourself Mighty and for we Your people to show ourselves compassionate – make it so, LORD.  And we have not forgotten, nor shall we forget Israel, Your beloved people and we pray for them, that they come to know Your Peace and I pray You will subdue all their enemies.  And, Father, I ask You to help me digest what is written here and what I have heard today and to be faithful with Your Word and to be faithful to apply myself in pursuing You, to know You, to love You, to glorify You within and without, but, Father, I ask this not for me alone but for every IDOK and every Reader.  Amen and amen.

Sunday Evening Ramblings (again)

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010

Sunday Evening Ramblings

Here I am to worship,

Here I am to bow down,

Here I am to say that You’re my God

You’re altogether lovely

All together worthy,

All together wonderful to me

It was not until the fourth time we sang those words that it finally dawned on me what I was saying!   And then there was a question.  Why was I there?  Why did I get up, get dressed, go to Sunday School and ‘Preaching’ (that’s what I remember hearing folks call it when I was a young one)?  Why was I there?  The only worthy reason for me to be there was to worship; to bow my heart, my soul, my will, my wants, desires, dreams, needs, all of it – bow and surrender all to Him.  Only then can I say to Him, You are my God.  And then I will be saying You are all together lovely, You are all together wonderful to me.

And that’s just one of the things I heard since we last met at this screen.  Jerry and I watched a movie last night entitled The List.  The film is based on a book by the same name written by Robert Whitlow.  It ended with this line: And God said My people and My enemies do the same thing; they underestimate the power of prayer.  Ponder that a moment.  We did and we immediately prayed.  And you know what — He heard and I know that for which we prayed is handled and in time we will SEE that it is.

And on page 75 of a wonderful little book titled Touching Wonder, Recapturing the Awe of Christmas by John Blasé, I read these words:

Always… Mighty One, I know of my own pleadings for You to do something! My life’s story tells me that You have, are, and will.  But it’s always in Your time, I do want it that way, even when I scream to the contrary.

Sincerely, John.

Do you so totally get that?  If it does not come to you with the first read, read it again.

And one more before I close.  Of the many things my Pastor said this morning, this is one I must share with you.  As he spoke of the Body of Christ and our day-to-day living he said folks of the world might say to us: ‘If you will show me your redeemed life, I might be inclined to believe your Redeemer’.

Isaiah 47:4 As for our Redeemer, the LORD of hosts is His name, The Holy One of Israel. (source)

LORD GOD, You are my Redeemer and You do LIVE!  Praise You now and forever!   I pray You will take these disjointed ramblings and make them gel; bring Your Word to bear upon our souls so much so that our lives are indeed redeemed and honest seekers looking on have no choice but to say You did it.   Holy Spirit, I pray more and more we will come to experience the power You release when we pray.  And I pray more and more we will scream less and less to the contrary; and that we really do in the nitty-gritty of our hearts want everything done in Your Time and in Your way, not ours.  ABBA, You know every name spoken here today; we ask You to provide for them and if any one of us can enter into work with You on their behalf with deeds added to our prayers, please so move us, Lord.   And we pray for our IDOK Troops for their safety and health and well-being, each one of them. Please bring each one home safe and sound.  And in this moment as we close and post and send, I ask You to give rest and peace to each IDOK and each Reader and it is in the Holy and Beautiful name of Yeshua that I ask. Amen and amen.

James Montgomery

Because You Might Find It Interesting. This comes from my You Version Reading Plan this morning.

ANGELS FROM THE REALMS OF GLORY

Next to Isaac Watts and Charles Wesley, James Montgomery is the most influential hymn writer in the English language. He wrote over 400 hymns, among which is Angels from the Realms of Glory. Montgomery was not a clergyman or musician; rather, he was a newspaper editor! Born in 1771 to Moravian missionaries, Montgomery attended seminary in England. While there, he was notified that his parents had died suddenly on the mission field in the West Indies. Despondent, Montgomery dropped out of school, never returning to seminary. Eventually, he went into the newspaper business–becoming editor of a weekly London paper where he remained for 31 years.

Because Montgomery strongly promoted the abolition of slavery and the rights of the poor, he was considered quite controversial. Twice, he was imprisoned for publishing his views! While in prison, he wrote a number of poems. In 1797, after his release, he published the poems in a book called “Prison Amusements.” His carol, Angels from the Realms of Glory, was first published as an editorial in his newspaper on Christmas Eve, 1816. The tune for this carol was composed by Henry Smart, one of the greatest church organists and composers of his generation. The melody for Angels from the Realms of Glory was composed for a new hymnal being published by Regent Square Presbyterian Church in London. The last two verses of this beautiful song describe the work of the Messiah when He comes to His temple. This vivid word picture comes from two Old Testament prophets–Haggai and Malachi.

Montgomery left the paper in 1825 and devoted the rest of his life promoting missions and other worthwhile causes. From 1833 until his death in 1854, the British government gave him a pension of $1,000 a year because of all his contributions to English society. Henry was blind for many years but continued to turn out many wonderful songs.

If you are of a mind, a prayer would not be wasted on me. A summer cold came on yesterday and is kicking me around fairly well – the first one in a very long time. Thank you Dear Friends.
