Sunday Evening Ramblings (again)

IDOK DEVOTION FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010

Sunday Evening Ramblings

Here I am to worship,

Here I am to bow down,

Here I am to say that You’re my God

You’re altogether lovely

All together worthy,

All together wonderful to me

It was not until the fourth time we sang those words that it finally dawned on me what I was saying!   And then there was a question.  Why was I there?  Why did I get up, get dressed, go to Sunday School and ‘Preaching’ (that’s what I remember hearing folks call it when I was a young one)?  Why was I there?  The only worthy reason for me to be there was to worship; to bow my heart, my soul, my will, my wants, desires, dreams, needs, all of it – bow and surrender all to Him.  Only then can I say to Him, You are my God.  And then I will be saying You are all together lovely, You are all together wonderful to me.

And that’s just one of the things I heard since we last met at this screen.  Jerry and I watched a movie last night entitled The List.  The film is based on a book by the same name written by Robert Whitlow.  It ended with this line: And God said My people and My enemies do the same thing; they underestimate the power of prayer.  Ponder that a moment.  We did and we immediately prayed.  And you know what — He heard and I know that for which we prayed is handled and in time we will SEE that it is.

And on page 75 of a wonderful little book titled Touching Wonder, Recapturing the Awe of Christmas by John Blasé, I read these words:

Always… Mighty One, I know of my own pleadings for You to do something! My life’s story tells me that You have, are, and will.  But it’s always in Your time, I do want it that way, even when I scream to the contrary.

Sincerely, John.

Do you so totally get that?  If it does not come to you with the first read, read it again.

And one more before I close.  Of the many things my Pastor said this morning, this is one I must share with you.  As he spoke of the Body of Christ and our day-to-day living he said folks of the world might say to us: ‘If you will show me your redeemed life, I might be inclined to believe your Redeemer’.

Isaiah 47:4 As for our Redeemer, the LORD of hosts is His name, The Holy One of Israel. (source)

LORD GOD, You are my Redeemer and You do LIVE!  Praise You now and forever!   I pray You will take these disjointed ramblings and make them gel; bring Your Word to bear upon our souls so much so that our lives are indeed redeemed and honest seekers looking on have no choice but to say You did it.   Holy Spirit, I pray more and more we will come to experience the power You release when we pray.  And I pray more and more we will scream less and less to the contrary; and that we really do in the nitty-gritty of our hearts want everything done in Your Time and in Your way, not ours.  ABBA, You know every name spoken here today; we ask You to provide for them and if any one of us can enter into work with You on their behalf with deeds added to our prayers, please so move us, Lord.   And we pray for our IDOK Troops for their safety and health and well-being, each one of them. Please bring each one home safe and sound.  And in this moment as we close and post and send, I ask You to give rest and peace to each IDOK and each Reader and it is in the Holy and Beautiful name of Yeshua that I ask. Amen and amen.

James Montgomery

Because You Might Find It Interesting. This comes from my You Version Reading Plan this morning.

ANGELS FROM THE REALMS OF GLORY

Next to Isaac Watts and Charles Wesley, James Montgomery is the most influential hymn writer in the English language. He wrote over 400 hymns, among which is Angels from the Realms of Glory. Montgomery was not a clergyman or musician; rather, he was a newspaper editor! Born in 1771 to Moravian missionaries, Montgomery attended seminary in England. While there, he was notified that his parents had died suddenly on the mission field in the West Indies. Despondent, Montgomery dropped out of school, never returning to seminary. Eventually, he went into the newspaper business–becoming editor of a weekly London paper where he remained for 31 years.

Because Montgomery strongly promoted the abolition of slavery and the rights of the poor, he was considered quite controversial. Twice, he was imprisoned for publishing his views! While in prison, he wrote a number of poems. In 1797, after his release, he published the poems in a book called “Prison Amusements.” His carol, Angels from the Realms of Glory, was first published as an editorial in his newspaper on Christmas Eve, 1816. The tune for this carol was composed by Henry Smart, one of the greatest church organists and composers of his generation. The melody for Angels from the Realms of Glory was composed for a new hymnal being published by Regent Square Presbyterian Church in London. The last two verses of this beautiful song describe the work of the Messiah when He comes to His temple. This vivid word picture comes from two Old Testament prophets–Haggai and Malachi.

Montgomery left the paper in 1825 and devoted the rest of his life promoting missions and other worthwhile causes. From 1833 until his death in 1854, the British government gave him a pension of $1,000 a year because of all his contributions to English society. Henry was blind for many years but continued to turn out many wonderful songs.

If you are of a mind, a prayer would not be wasted on me. A summer cold came on yesterday and is kicking me around fairly well – the first one in a very long time. Thank you Dear Friends.

Storms & Smiles

Psalm 57 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

2 (1) Show me favor, God, show me favor; for in you I have taken refuge. Yes, I will find refuge in the shadow of your wings until the storms have passed.
3 (2) I call to God, the Most High, to God, who is accomplishing his purpose for me.

via Ps 57 KJV;CJB – Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful – Bible Gateway.

Until the storm passes by – a refuge in the storm.

Yes, may each of us find refuge in the Shadow of His wings until the storms have passed.

And what of storms?
They are scary and yet a peculiar excitement captivates us when they come. It’s the power, I think. Even the beauty of them. There was one in particular. I watched safely from the floor of my kitchen through the patio door. HE was with me. Yes. He is indeed our Refuge in storms.

But there’s more: Verse 3

The storms come to accomplish His purpose in us. And perhaps as we accept Him as our refuge His purposes become clear.  Or not. And if not — we still have the refuge! :)

Enjoy the video — if you like Southern Gospel. :) And if not – perhaps I’ll catch you next with some Third Day or Toby Mac. :)

Be Hidden in CHRIST,

Thank You, ABBA, for calling us to Yourself – our Place of Refuge. And there’s a dear family in need of You; and again, I ask You for a textbook perfect surgical procedure for Josh and a complete recovery. And Jamie and Terri, Kerri, Dori, Lance, Carol, Rick and Others. Thank You for taking our petitions, LORD JESUS, and presenting them to ABBA just the right way. And, ABBA, Some One’s dear Face I see in this moment; heal her heart and, HOLY SPIRIT, help her take refuge in You even now in this moment. And there’s Another and Another, it’s like their souls are hemorrhaging; please help them agree to let You stop the bleeding. Bleeding. I still see the picture – 26 weeks. Judge thinks he has legal grounds so no it’s not murder. You know differently, I agree with You. Forgive Him, LORD,have mercy; give grace and space to repent. Grace and space for many repentance[s], I pray. Awaken us, ABBA. Peace and protection for Israel I pray; revival for the proud Church; and Your comforting and strengthening Presence for the Persecuted Church and many more things that come to this place in the minds of each Reader – bless them, strengthen them, empower them to believe and receive in JESUS’ name. Amen and amen.

Sausage and Hash Browns

If you have been a Reader of The White Stone (IDOK Devotions) for a while you know my Life verses are Psalm 145:17 & 18.

17 Adonai is righteous in all his ways, full of grace in all he does.
18 Adonai is close to all who call on him, to all who sincerely call on him.

via Ps 145 CJB – Praise. By David: I will praise you to – Bible Gateway.

And as I was reading them just now I read the surrounding verses too.

Look at this:

15 The eyes of all are looking to you; you give them their food at the right time. 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

via Ps 145 CJB – Praise. By David: I will praise you to – Bible Gateway.

There’s a promise there. All those looking to ABBA, HE will give them their food at the right time. I’m believing that FOOD is more than just sausage and hash browns. I am believing that FOOD is EVERYTHING we need to NOURISH our body, soul and spirit. And, also, HE will give whatever is needed for body, soul and spirit On Time. Reminds me of a song. He’s an On Time GOD.  Hmm wonder if I could find a you tube of that song. :)

But there’s more. He has an open Hand. Did you see that? Our ABBA has an open Hand, NOT a clenched fist!! His Hand is open to satisfy us! So will we dare say to ourselves: if we are not satisfied, perhaps we have a clenched fist rather than an open hand to receive from His Open Hand.

Something to ponder.

Be Hidden in CHRIST,

I like this, ABBA. Thank You. You are GOD and You are ON TIME ALWAYS! That’s particularly important to this little girl who is often late. :) I love You, ABBA. Thank You for being You. And for having perfect humor with us. Thank You that Jamie was at service last night at church. Thank You for what You are doing for her and I am asking You again to heal her in Your On Time time. And I am praying you will heal Terri and Lance too. And just now I am reminded again of Carol. I still don’t know just how to pray about her medical situation; even so I am bringing her again to You for help and for Your Will for her. Oh yes, and Rick the cancer is defeating his body, ABBA; I pray that even though his outward man is perishing that his inner man will prosper and be rich and in full health. I pray for peace and comfort for his beloved family and friends. And there are many other matters vying for attention in my prayer closet; I rest easy that You are privy to all and willing to handle it all, so I just ask HOLY SPIRIT that the wills of people will soften and bend; they need Your help to do that and that is my prayer that they will. And for each Reader who comes to this page, I pray for them too; I suspect if I knew I would find varied needs and seasons of life; but this I know, ABBA, whatever the need, whatever the season, whatever the fear or lack; YOU are the Provider; You are the solution, You are the Answer; I pray they will believe and receive in YESHUA’s Name. amen and amen.
