A Peek

Good Saturday Afternoon. Want to peek over my shoulder? Yes? Good.

November 3, 2019, Sunday School Notes

Ephesians 5:1-14

Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father];  source

Verse 1, first two words: Therefore Become.

Why is the therefore there for?
Because of what has gone on before. Right?
What was chapter 4?
The Christian’s Walk.
This chapter (5) could be entitled Be Imitators of GOD.
Obviously, because that’s how the Christian is to walk. Right? Imitating GOD.

Now word two.
Become.
This word gives us hope!
Become is a process. GOD did not expect us to wake up the morning after our salvation and be exactly like JESUS in thoughts, words, and deeds. He really didn’t (or doesn’t for that one saved today). But obviously, from Chapter 5 we can be assured He does expect us to BECOME.

It’s a process.

Now isn’t that good news on this Saturday afternoon?!

Yes, I’m studying for Sunday School. :)

Separate

My first acquaintance with the verse came from the King James Translation and it read this way:

2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV) 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.  source

Over the years I have read other translations; the message remains the same. When we have exchanged our sins for JESUS’s righteousness we don’t have to live like those who are still on the hook for payment.

So do we? How many ways of the unbeliever can we name that we have laid aside; that we longer practice?

So how separate are we? Is it enough that we can be readily identified as a believer by unbelievers? Yes?

Good! You are a light in this dark world! Keep shining!

2 Corinthians 6:17 Amplified Bible (AMP) 17 “So come out from among unbelievers and be separate,” says the Lord, And do not touch what is unclean; And I will graciously receive you and welcome you [with favor], source

Praying for Mentors

I have been reading Prayers of Blessing Over Your Husband by Bruce Wilkinson and Heather Hair. I believe many of the prayers are applicable to others we love. May I offer you one (modified) today from the book for your spouse, for your children, for your grandchildren? Just call them by name and pray.

Gracious Lord, please surround my (_________ ) with mentors who will guide (him/her) in the ways of wisdom, right living, kindness, commitment, and a deep love for You and for this family. I pray that You bless (him/her) with like interests with these mentors and provide them with learning experiences that they can share together, as well as occasions of fun and fellowship. Help me to be willing to share emotions and time so he/she can develop and sustain relationships with these, and I pray that the richness of these relationships will overflow into our family and our home, In Christ’s name, amen.

Italics indicates changes in the verbiage from page 120 of the aforementioned book.

Favored

A favored passage for favored people.

From Numbers 6:

24 ‘May the Lord bless you
    and protect you.
25 May the Lord smile on you
    and be gracious to you.
26 May the Lord show you his favor
and give you his peace.’  source

Go in peace today.
